Eternal for actually engaging
2016 for podcast listening
Music: 2016
Gameplay: Eternal
they are both great quake games
Eternal is objectively better.
Better weapon mods, more enemies, equipment is worth a damn this time around.
But i dunno, 2016 is fucking solid. Definitely best arenas, more balanced, much better soundtrack, and Nightmare felt alot harder.
I think they just made Doomguy alittle too powerful in Eternal, i started my Nightmare playthrough expecting to eat shit and ive only died twice, and im on level 5
Eternal, but I prefer the more serious, and less cartoony aesthetic of 2016. 2016 looks far grosser and gory and I preferred that.
>i started my Nightmare playthrough expecting to eat shit and ive only died twice, and im on level 5
Have you encountered a Marauder yet?
Not yet but ive fought him on UV. He becomes trivial once you delete all the trash demons that are around him. He was overhyped desu
Of that style, I prefer Quake 3.
I think it really comes down to the individual.
I understand what they are trying to do with Eternal by adding more mechanics to make it more engaging and require more thought than 2016, but at the same time 2016 felt a lot more clean because it doesn't require you to effectively jump through hoops to gain health/shield/ammo. You do eventually get used to it and a flow starts to happen, but it can get disrupted way easier than it could in 2016.
Some design choices of Eternal do feel just bizarre as well. The lack of a pistol or standard melee, purple demon sludge that forces you to walk, swimming introduced very late in the game and for only one level, many upgrades and collectables. It's bizarre to me that it costs 2 batteries to get 1 coin. By the time you have enough batteries to actually consider using them to get that 1 coin, you basically only have useless coin upgrades left anyway.
>many pointless upgrades and collectables*
This. Not a single track stood out in eternal.
Basically this
Did you think Eternal looked too "video gamey'?
Doom Eternal
>Faster than 2016, gameplay is tighter as long as you get used to it, more depth, variety and options
>Much more difficult even on Hurt Me Plenty
>Artstyle tries to lean more into classic Doom than the realistic one than 2016 tried
>Music is pretty much on par
Doom 2016 has its quirks that makes it its own thing, but I prefer Eternal.
Also 2016 doesn't make me nut like I do to this youtu.be
eternal is better spare these 3 gripes
>traffic knights ruin the flow of the gameplay
>you hold like no shotgun ammo and have to use the full auto mod on small enemies to actually have ammo last
>super shotgun doesnt have single fire option
This is what a schizo looks like
Quake 4
The only gripes I have with Eternal's gameplay tends to be small stuff.
>Switching weapons should be possible during glory kills, chainsaw and crucible attacks so you can shift strategies and adapt immediately after exiting them
>Fast glory kill rune should apply to crucible and chainsaw as well, maybe it shouldn't even be a rune and just be an upgrade or an option in the settings kinda like turbo mode in DMC.
>Microwave mod slows you down too much to be truly useful, though I've seen bhopping speeding up slow mods like the ballista blade considerably so maybe I just have to practice
>The only way to open up the Marauder is the grenades or getting close to him, blood punching should be an option too so you have just another small option to play aggressive
>Harder difficulties should add extra attacks to enemies to further differentiate it from the other modes, adding more to the curve of learning than just raising the bar, and also adding variety
>The latter should also apply to bosses
Oh and they should focus on adding modding as soon as possible, as I genuinely believe that will keep the game alive for a long while. They seem to have it in the plans though.
Also make slayer vs slayer invasions a thing.
2016.
Even with their stance on gameplay taking precedence, 2016 still had a better, more coherent story and progression through its levels and felt like a more complete experience. Eternal's gameplay is arguably better or worse, but theres no doubt 2016's was solid and simple and you could play however you wanted without mechanics and playstyles being forced on you.
Personally I feel like they took the story bad gameplay good memes to the extreme with Eternal, and filled it with too much reddit humor to really be memorable like 2016 was.
Contrarian opinions for the sake of it aren't worth anything.
My only real problem with Eternal is that you can't turn off the low ammo warning, otherwise it's better than 2016 in almost every way besides maybe story but you can just skip that shit which is more than I can say for 2016.
I liked both but Eternal was definitely better.
Haven't played Eternal yet, got out of Hell the first time in 2016.
2016 is so fucking... plain? Milquetoast? I don't know how to describe this ugly feeling. It has that awful, homogeneous humor in it, too. Hell, the whole game feels like formless sludge. Sitting on double digit upgrade points because I don't want any of what they're offering. Feels like Bethesda Fallout: very one-note in imitation of what came before.
Still a 7/10 at least I guess.
I liked the Marauder fight music, but I can't find it in the OST.
The Only Thing They Fear Is You is the music that plays when you fight him at ARC complex, but the OST doesn't have an official release yet.
>more than I can say for 2016
There's like 5 minutes of forced story exposition in the entire game..
Eternal, easily. Much faster, meathook is great, dashing is fun, chainsaw refilling over time is much better than how 2016 handled it.
Also just beat it on Nightmare, was good fun except for the Gladiator boss which is a piece of shit.
i have a way of dealing with contrarian faggots where i come from
i shoot them
BFG 10000 is firing
Eternal. Best pleb filter I've seen since Fire Emblem Conquest
I am playing on normal and I feel like a noob because the two doom hunters are fucking me over.
Animal Crossing New Horizons
Why did Eternal go so down the reddit rabbit hole?
>Definitely best arenas
Most of the game is in a generic space station and desolate areas of mars.
Care to explain in a non-buzzword fashion?
git gud fag
don't worry user, you can do it. They filtered me hard at first
Doom 3 is still the true pleb filter.
>THE SLAYER HAS CONTROL OF THE BFG
>REPEAT, THE SLAYER HAS THE BFG
I kinda think that helped.
The monocolor environment really helped push the whole desolate 1 man army thing.
I think Eternal's environments are solid but the ones that are brightly colored. That doesn't belong in DOOM imo.
>that green lighting as it fires
Gameplay wise Eternal no doubt
2016 for not turning the franchise into a total meme
>not turning the franchise into a total meme
What did he mean by this
>for the sake of it
But he explained why. What more do you want?
Best rune combos?
What really bothers me in Eternal is how new enemies just appear and you might only notice it a few enocunters later. Sometimes you even meet them first in fucking Slayer Gates. 2016 treated each new enemy's introduction like an important event. Some foreshadowing, small cutscene or even just properly set the stage to showcase the demon in his full glory like they did with barons in 2016.
Other than that Eternal is pretty much an improvement in every aspect.
Oh, and font in codex is dogshit.
Mid-air control, Blood Fueled and Savagery
If they made Mid-air Control a default part of your kit so I could equip Seek and Destroy and teleport in enemy's faces, then I'd be a truly happy boy
If you are a shitter, Eternal. Who needs to worry about resource management when cooldowns just constantly refill health, armor, and ammo. Hell, do the right combo on the last two respawned fodder at the end of every arena and you are topped off for the next.
No wonder fags are drooling over it, it's EZ mode.
Longer Glory Kill stagger, Glory Kill from farther away, fast Glory Kills
2016 literally is the meme game. It turned Doom into Green Samus and introduced Rip & Tear ultra violence. The damage was already done but at least Eternal improved on the formula by making the good parts of 2016 even greater and ditching some of the gay shit. The best thing Eternal did was bring back OG Doomguy armor even though the default was a step up from the previous game.
They're a lot easier when you take out the sleds. I don't know how you're playing, but it might be easier to destroy both sleds instead of trying to take out one demon at a time. Two without sleds are less of a pain than one with a sled. The Blood Punch does wonders on the sleds, too.
There's a lot of stuff here and there that 2016 does better but the core aspects of the game are so much improved in Eternal it's going to be hard to go back
Longer range on glory kills
Speed boost after glory kills
Faster equipment cooldown
The OG armor is so good.
Basically this Eternal is superior in almost every way but I liked the more serious tone and aesthetic of 2016.
It felt more realistic and consistent, Doomguy was not hailed or known by everyone and that "epic badass" persona, just a horror story among demons and a one-man army.
Eternal takes the dive and pays tribute on all the memes around DOOM and I don't mind it too much, but I preferred the 2016 feel and demon aesthetic, it's all.
I like that the ammo was less colourful, I preferred most demon design in 2016, I loved the more horror like setting instead of the "epic crusade adventure" vibe of Eternal.
Full disclaimer though, it's pure nitpicking on my part, I'm loving Eternal to bits.
It also participates in visual clutter.
2016 arenas were much more to the point visually. Many of my deaths in eternal come from barely reading what's on screen.
what is the point of faster glory kills since you gain i-frames during them anyway? Gives you a moment of breathing room
Ah yes because only reddit uses multiple monitors and collects toys
Not like we have an entire board for that or anything, nope
>That garbage Pac-Man action figure
There has to be better toys that actually use the Pac-Man World design
I dislike any runes that slow time, fuck that, and the extra life one feels like cheating.
I run
GK from far away
Speed boost after GK
Life drops after Blood Punch kill
On Nightmare, I need the life drop. Otherwise, I'd go with the equipment CD one.
And whenever you pick up a berzerk globe, you go with the three GK ones.
>The best thing Eternal did was bring back OG Doomguy armor even though the default was a step up from the previous game.
This, 2016 armor was garbage. Generic solid color sleek military space man. Eternal Doomguy finally looks like a real man with his massive exposed biceps.
Also sentinel armor is pretty great.
Gotta go fast user
also helps you chain together multiple glory kills
They both sucked. Too easy and nothing like doom.
OG Doom is easier than Eternal
2016 is a 7/10.
Eternal a 6/10.
What about Slayers Gate and The Only Thing they fear is you?
2016 had only two good tracks as well, BFG Division and Flesh&Metal
Are the remixed levels an online thing?
I pirated eternal and blocked it connecting and the master levels dont appear, I see alot of people really liking them
>.jpg
Not chad-like
Imagine caring about the resolution of a reaction image
No plays OG doom, but the mods that make it harder still carry the original gameplay's spirit.
