All monster lords have had the ability to change their forms at will, you can even see Alice doing it in the VN. While Promestein did alter BA, she also had the ability to change her form at will as well.

When you fight her as an optional boss in MGQ:Paradox you fight up to her third form.
This particular fight takes place in a parallel world a couple hundred years back in the past back when Heinrich and a perfectly normal human mage were still out on their adventure together.

Technically, Monster Lords are shapeshifters that have the base genes of the seven "primal" monsters: Animals, Scyllas, Succubi, Slimes, Plants, Lamias and Harpies. Alipheese the First shared her primal genes with the Six Ancestors (with Lamias and Harpies sharing the same ancestor), and all other monster races come from evolutionary branches out of the primal races.
So at the end, it's assumed that they can change between their seven forms at will. Alice sticks mainly to the form of a Lamia, Black Alice sticks the form of a Scylla.

Wonder how much of Heinrich's story was fucked up by Ilias trying to hide the truth. Considering what we know from Paradox and what was implied in the VN trilogy, I don't think Heinrich of all people would kill Black Alice without a damn good reason, especially if he had the Angel Halo. We heard from some sources that Black Alice was messed up, but it became clear in Paradox that she wasn't THAT messed up, and the Lilith Twins back that up too. And even weirder was the Hero's Journey, which tells Heinrich traveled through the entiire world after killing Black Alice... right before going into a rage against the heavens and dying alone.
I have some headcanons, but I really hope Torotoro clears up what the hell happened.

He started a genocide crusade against heaven and personally killed almost every single angel out there. He was only stopped because he was drowned in so much angel blood that his soul and body solidified into holy matter and they sealed him away at his grave

Quite the opposite actually, he went on an angel murder spree until he eventually took on the big bad herself and lost horribly and had his soul imprisoned for eternity for his crimes against them until he was originally freed by luka.

Yes and no
He did go into a rage against the heavens. We don't really know WHY he decided to do so, nor what happened after he defeated Black Alice, all he know is that he had kids with a human girl (cuz after all, Luka IS a descendant of his) and that he went on a trip around the world.
Also, the reason he stopped was because he was corrupted by holy energy due to killing too many monsters and his body eroded away. Ilias took the advantage and sealed him, because Paradox shows us that if she didn't, the consequences would be dire.

Do you like Dragon Quest and JRPGs? If so, definitely. Despite the shoddy presentation and UI, it's like 100+ hours of well-polished JRPG goodness packed to the brim with recruitable characters, crazy job/race systems and sidequests.
If not... well, maybe wait for Part 3? The story took an interesting turn, both on the sense that it escalated into some crazy stuff and in the sense that Paradox is far more focused on worldbuilding and larger-scale storytelling instead of the character-focused stuff of the original VNs. It's difficult to say if the buildup of Paradox 1-2 will be worth it since Part 3 is not out yet, so it's hard to tell, so I'll just say you should wait until then.

So is canon non-Paradox Luka pretty much the ultimate being? The last source of Illias' power and technically her grandchild, trained to use spirits and monster powers, he's basically Heinrich if it all went right.
