Beat the game on nightmare. Archviles, who don't require a particular strategy (like that matters), slow the pacing down a lot more.

I can never get his range right. I know to stay at mid range to get his melee attacks out to counter, but I always end up a little too close or far. But now that I know the Q button lets me quickswap between weapons, it's fucking over once I counter him once.

Basically this The issue isn't that he's super difficult, it's that he completely interrupts the flow of the fight whenever he shows up. The game offers challenge through hordes of enemies that all have to be dealt with quickly in different ways.
Having one enemy that essentially can't be beaten until all other enemies are done, then you have to sit there and time your shots to finish it, is antithetical to the rest of the game's philosophy. It would be like having a Ninja Gaiden boss show up in Dark Souls.
For the last time. You can get past his counter move shit with explosives. Just blow them up behind him.
What are the chances that they fine tune him due to feedback? How would you change him to make him fit in more with the combat flow?
I think his sweet spot should be larger, he should still take small amounts of damage outside of his green flashes and you should be able to stagger him for a period so it makes sense to hit him hard first to down him, finish the other enemies, then come back to end him.
Because Earth is his home now and the Makyrs are shit.

The Marauder feels like it was someone's pet project that they spent 5000 man hours making after screaming that Dark Souls is the height of game design and by god you are going to appreciate it. So you get a Dark Souls like encounter even if it doesn't fit Doom at all, and it requires tedious repetition even if that, too, doesn't fit in a Doom game, and then it didn't get the dev time it needed because it's possible to cheese the fights between outright bugs, and the simple fact that everything is 'sometimes' with this fucker. I've killed them with BFG's before I realized it had even caught them.

The first fight was fun until I realized that he wasn't unpredictable and learned to react to my gun like a dynamic fight but was instead just buggy to the point of being inconsistent. Then he epitomizes the worst design issues present in Doom Eternal that mostly revolve around mindlessly running around the map killing infinitely respawning enemies for no reason other then that the game has thrown a tedious bullet sponge at you.
Finished on Nightmare, Marauders are incredibly easy but people are memeing that they're hard on the internet when they're really not.
They're just painfully boring and 1-note, the pacing the game comes to a standstill and I'd rather platforming segments that yawning to death.
