Doom 64 is pretty cool. Doesn't really feel like Doom but it's alright. The music is creeping me the fuck out

Yes, I know.
I was like 10 when it came out. I guess I should not have been playing it at such young age, but what ever.
Feels more like Doom than Eternal.
Well the nu-ZOOM games aren't "Doom" in anything but the name. It's practically an AAA clone of the Hard Reset, which was an odd twist on Painkiller.
What is with all the Doom 64 threads lately?
it got a (censored) re-release on consoles.
>imagine getting scared by some chill ambient music
>(censored)
In what way?

Why the fuck are you lying?

this shit's not chill or ambient brotato. this is nightmare fuel
It feels more like Doom than 2016 or Eternal. Doom is at its best with a moody slightly horror vibe. The metal shit is Doom at its worst. I will fucking die on that hill. Too bad Doom 3 didn't really do either right and is rightfully the black sheep. Good game but not really Doom at all other than the enemy design.
Oh fucking kill yourself. They LEGALLY cannot use the Red Cross symbol.
There's a bug where the autorun doesn't work unless you rebind it, it feels a lot more like doom after fixing that.
almost like they don't want to get into legal bullshit with the Red Cross
>SSG has no animation
fucking irredeemable shit just like Quake, gargle hobo cum you fucking asssucking faggots.
That didn't happen to me.
is this worth playing if you already played through doom 64ex?
i don't mind spending money on it because it's so cheap i just want to know if it is improved at all from that
That’s just Red Cross being really strict. It’s weird that they have a fucking copyright on that.
No one told me Arnold was the main character for Doom 64.
Yikes!
They feel more like DMC mixed with Quake.
I'm still amazed americans don't like Doom 3 desu.
You're not even posting the best one:

If I'm not mistaken the guy who worked on Ex also helped with this. I could be completely wrong.
Also, they added a couple new levels to the game.
Legit curious, any other censorship than the red cross? That's understandable, there was a big legal battle over it. I'd rather have the green cross than the fucking Akira pill.
The re-release is an upgraded Doom 64 EX, both made by Kaiser. The re-release also comes with a new set of levels and the ending ties the story into Doom 2016.

Hodges's soundtrack for the console Doom games are the fucking best.
>Legit curious, any other censorship than the red cross?
No.
>the ending ties the story into Doom 2016
Doom 64's original ending lead into the events of 2016, and now the ending to the new levels further reinforces that.
>Yikes!
But he's right. The atmosphere's different, but gameplay-wise it's just classic Doom.
Looks like beat me to it.
I wish there were more levels, 7 just ain't enough. They were so fucking good too, better than most of the base levels not that those were bad or anything.
Favorite levels?
Worst levels?
Personal fave's are 12 and 18. I love 12 for the amiance of crying babies on the background.
Worst level is The Spiral. I get the concept they had in mind, working your way up a gauntlet, but all you have to do is hide in the starting room and wait for everything to come to you.
Why can't I find any fucking secrets? I'm humping the walls as best as I can

Watch Your Step and Even Sinpler are so much fun, especially when playing on Watch Me Die!
>If I'm not mistaken the guy who worked on Ex also helped with this.
It literally is EX, the main difference between this and the free version is newer KEX engine features like Vulkan rendering, higher accuracy so the original demo files can play, the removal of jumping and vertical mouselook and a bonus chapter that ties the game into 2016/Eternal.
Oh yeah, Even Simpler. Can't believe I forgot that one.
I get that it would be better to have it totally unaltered, but this is not "censorship" as Yas Forums defines it.
Have the new levels been ripped and do they work with EX?
I've done it on Watch Me Die!
Give top priority to killing Pain Elementals while still invincible (using rocket launcher is fastest bet), then rin laps around the perimeter, letting infighting deal with 80% of the population. Then BFG the fuck out of the queen
>do they work with EX?
but it's already running on EX.
>fast monsters
oh shit
does that just skip the intro movies?
Yes, skips the bethesda/id/nightdive intros. -fast is fast monsters.
Finally, after all these years, I have become DOOM™
Autistic Canadian speedrunning the new episode

so he stayed in hell and fought demons until he somehow ended up in a sarcophagus?
Even Simpler is more fun than Dead Simple imo. Altar of Pain is also pretty great. I can't say there's a level that I hate, but some of those secret levels can be a real pain in the ass. The Baron trap in Hectic is a bitch.I haven't touched the Lost Levels yet since I wanted to do a second run and grab all the demon keys.
what happens when you get all the demon keys?
Unmaker (Unmakyr?) gets powered up and you can close the portals in the final boss room.
Apparently there's going to be DLC for Eternal that bridges the gap between 64 and 2016. Shit's weird.
Only level I hate is Hectic
Eternal explains this part: while he was in Hell just killing demons for a living, he stumbled into a slipgate (official term now) that transported him to the Night Sentinel world. There he fought with the Night Sentinels to combat the Hell invasion going on there. During a mission into Hell the Betrayer did his thing and locked Doomguy and a squad of Night Sentinels in Hell. At that point Doomguy continued wandering Hell until the demons literally dropped a building on him and locked him up in the coffin you wake up from in 2016.
Tbh I think the new cross is fitting and looks cool.
Each key makes the Unmaker stronger.
The first key makes it shoot faster.
The second key makes it shoot two lasers.
Third key makes it shoot three lasers and is OP as fuck.
Then when you get to the final level you can close off the gates that spawn a bunch of enemies making it super ez pz
No, if you don't mind spoilers for Eternal, this is how I pieced together his story
>Goes through D1, D2, D64
>End of D64, he stays in Hell for an undetermined amount of time ripping and tearing and killing demons over and over
>Eventually is found by the Sentinels and by this point is a PTSD ridden mess who only cares about killing demons, really fucked up
>Presumably gets it under control and focuses it on rage
>Sentinel place is invaded by demons, he's granted godlike powers by Samuel Angel
>Goes on an even bigger killing spree, helps the Sentinels invade Hell but they are betrayed and eventually only the Slayer/Doomguy is left in Hell
>Goes on to kill for who knows how long, a really long time
>somewhere a demon he doesn't kill makes him the Praetor suit while in Hell
>eventually is contained in sarcophagus by Hell since they literally cannot kill him, so they lock him away instead
>is found by the alternate Earth/timeline UAC and brought to Mars
>2016 begins
Also Doom 3's protagonist is not related to the Slayer but the Hell is the same multi-dimensional Hell fucking up everything else so they're connected still in a loose way.
It's a better redesign in this than it is in the other games, with either the stupid akira pill or the green cross
>I wanted to do a second run and grab all the demon keys.
Just so you know, the Lost Levels count as a separate episode so none of your equipment carries over after killing the Mother Demon.
The Demon Keys make the BFG the Unmaker's bitch.
