That's such a bland fallback. Everyone wants to "get stronger." His goal doesn't have to be "world domination" but it should be something specific at least.

I just like the idea that he’s only “evil” in that he threatens Sonic and Eggman, but is an overall nice person. Like if he met Knuckles or Shadow he’d be respectful towards them, and only wants revenge against Sonic and Eggman for humiliating him.

I never got far enough into the game but I have vague understandings of what their motivation was. It has something to do with sapping the planet of its life force.

In general, spin off games tend to botch character representation, in favor of making them overall nicer and friendlier to a wider audience that consumes said party games

Infinite wasn't even a bad villian. He's hammy and over the top edge, but that sorta thing belongs in Sonic. Besides the fanbase go crazy with any new hedgehog shaped character. In a better game he'd have had the potential to be the next Shadow/Silver.

There isn't really a lot of design variance between members of the same species, like all the shown echidnas looking extremely similar, Sonic, Shadow, Silver and Amy having the same general bodytype. The only real exception is Big and Blaze both being cats but Big is a fat retard.
