It has great spooky atmosphere, and the hell parts are pretty cool as well especially with the soulcube. The DLC with the gravgun is fun as well. I like to compare this game to Ghosts of Mars.

No. This is still the worst Doom game by a country mile, and a shitty FPS in general. FEAR came out a year later and was the same game but a thousand times better.

I thought I had more ammo then I remembered. It seemed like you had to actually switch around rather then rely soley on the machinegun or shotgun. I didn't even realize that they altered levels either, got any examples?

I jumped on board in 2018 with Doom 64 being my first game, revisiting it with the re-release and I like the almost horror like atmosphere of the game.

Would Doom 3 scratch any of that itch? I've since played Doom 1, 2, and 2016, and I love those games, but there's not much eerieness to it that 64 had.

Original doom3 was practically a tech demo for the lighting effects capabilities of its engine.
But it's a great game that does manage to be scary at times. Later versions retooled how the flashlight works, essentially ruining the planned atmosphere.

Are you sure? I always remember the game looking that way. I played on a Geforce 4 in 2003 and distinctly remember seeing this kind of shit at the start of the game.
