dragon quest and final fantasy are the epitome of dull and boring jrpgs. they both have battle systems that are way too simple and easy and unengaging. play literally anything else

Most JRPGs easily have worse battle systems than DQXI specifically, which is the most refined in the series, so what you are saying is bullshit. Most jarpig fans do seem to think that superficial complexity = depth though, so that you're trying to claim this doesn't surprise me.

I beat the entire story. It had a few good characters, and a few good moments, but they weren't nearly enough to fill up that ridiculously long playtime. So, I know what you mean. It's almost as if they took the basic formula and stock characters for a JRPG and threw them together and then did nothing else and released it.

gave up when I got to the end but it was fun while it lasted. the enemies were great. You just have to turn on "enemies do more damage" or you will fall asleep.

That's ever Dragon Quest after 2 from what I've seen and played. People only cream themselves for that series because of Toriyama art.

I thought it had charm, but it suffered the Achilles heel of traditional JRPGS of just being mindbogglingly long with too much filler.

I think I dropped it around the time you fight the kraken after the mermaid or whatever

It's a game I feel I've played 10 times before. The shit soundtrack doesn't save it either. A jrpg with a bad soundtrack just can't be good, period. It's a shame, the rest is kinda polished if you can pass over the Toriyashit sameface, but it's just ruined by the bad music and dull everything else.

I thought it was really great up until Act 3 starts. If we pretend that doesn't exist, literally the only problem I have with the game (and I played this on PC, maybe it is better in the Switch version) is the fucking horrible OST. Seriously brings the game down. There is a grand total of like 5 songs the whole fucking 70 something hours. In a big JRPG I expect to have at least a couple of overworld tracks, one for every town, at least a couple of battle themes, a more emotional track for emphasize the big points in the story .... DQ11 plays the same midi shit over and over and over and over and over AND OVER AGAIN and it is really unfortunate.

I'm noticing all the posts in defense of DQ in this thread are reactionary excuses, insults, and hand waving. Can anyone actually justify DQXI being the game that it is? System mechanics, pep, grinding metal slimes, milquetoast story, all grand reveals/twists/turns deflating the build up, etc. I would just love, for once, to see someone on this board explain why they love DQ the way it is rather than fall back on wishy-washy "it's so comfy and doesn't NEED to change."

It's the 11th mainline game in a generic fantasy JRPG series. Not sure what you were expecting.
