From what I've seen so far, it looks and plays pretty good but it's not the level of interactivity that I was expecting, there were a lot of corners cut and most items you can't interact with beyond picking them up. I'd have preferred an episodic format so they can deliver highly packed, fully interactable areas.

The meme "experience" games have more things you can interact with in the environment because they're shorter games. HL:A has more props than HL2 but most of them you can only pick up and look at. Say if I pickup a calculator in-game I'd expect to be able to use it, for no purpose other than spectacle ofc. Valve has infinite money, if they settled on delaying the game or changing the release format they would fill the world with more things.

With the context that the game is a pocket universe created by the G-Man with the express purpose of testing your worth the lack of very many characters and plot actually feels eerie. The entire goal of the game is to get to the vault, and the tension and mystery is built up so masterfully that I genuinely was a little frightened once I got inside.

In HL there is no such thing as retconning when you consider the fact that the Vortigaunts and Nihilanths are omnipresent entities that can both travel and exist across all of time at once.

Personally I look at each half life game as an alternate universe to the game that preceded it. So Half Life 2 is one universe where the G-Man puts Gordon back in stasis, ep. 1 is an alternate timeline where he's blocked by the Vortigaunts, etc.

I like to think of it more as the Vortigaunts and the gman can see future realities but they can't deal with every probability so they have to choose what they change.

Epistle 3 can still be done, you just have to change Eli being alive and have Alyx be Gmans pawn from the beginning instead of at the end.

Valve is never going to make that storyline, that was the point of releasing epistle 3 to the public.

HL:A happens, Gman time warps her to the end of HL2:E2 at the end, then wipes her memory of that happening, then time warps her back to the beginning of HL2, then when the end of HL2:E2 comes around he gives Alyx back her memory of her fucking everything up.

Well we will never know for sure until HL3 comes out.
