I considered Kevin for third on my second team but I wanted some buffs and I really disliked using him in the original because he was way too broken. I know it may not end up being the same.

There was at least one run of the demo in which I had 3 characters already. Wonder why.

If you pick Charlotte as third you get her in the cave already. That's the only scenario.

There are three different intros to play through. All of them end up with you taking a boat or swimming alongside to the same town. From there the stories are all mostly the same. Part way through the three major villains have a confrontation, and two of them get rekt by the one that is based off who you start with. Then the end game dungeons change based on who you have.
The game is mostly the same regardless.

Intro is different for each character
Middle section (90% of the game) is the same for everyone with small variations in dialogue depending on party composition
Ending section is different in pairs, and is chosen based on your main character. Angela/Duran, Kevin/Charlotte, Riesz/Hawkeye all share final sections.

There's basically a conflict between you and three different enemy factions, and depending on which character you picked as main, the corresponding main villain/his faction come out on top.
I believe it only really changes one rather short area at the 2/3rd way point, and the last area before the final dungeon plus the final dungeon itsel.
Most of the rest is different dialogue, you still get to meet the minor villains of all the different factions in the same places.

Only thing that would come out of it is that you will have a higher leveled pot for release, hence a better drop rate for seeds and a chance to get better items.

Charlotte and Kevin's story didn't feel nearly as connected as the other two pairs did.

You could make a case for Duran, Angela or Riesz. Probably just Duran though.

I resonated the most with Angela's, Hawkeye's and Kevin's prologues.
Riesz is too dumb to live, Duran's felt a bit too simple what with getting styled on by a wizard and deciding he needs to go counter pick a better class and Charlotte's just kinda happened.

I just can't take Riesz seriously for some reason.

Because Charlotte loves Heath already and Kevin is not into girls yet.

After playing through her prologue I can't understand how anyone can take her seriously.

How do the games in the collection compare to their respective remakes? Trials/SD3 excluded. I have a vita and a switch so I can play either.

I think the general consensus is that Adventures of Mana is a fine remake while Secret of Mana isn't.

I liked Duran's but I admit it's very simplistic. I still like what they present with the king, his dad, etc. Charlotte's is extremely fun and makes you smile.

Riesz might be the only one I can say is just plain bad.
