Can't get past the tower?
Harmony of Dissonance is kind of a clusterfuck because of the castle A/B gimmick. On paper it's better than SotN's inverted castle but in practice it just makes everything tedious.
I've been stuck for 3 years. I refuse to look at a guide. Maybe it's the same part I'm stuck on, user. :3
HoD is the only game where I got stuck because of "where the fuck do I go?". Big shame, cuz game is pretty fucking good.
I’ve been playing Megaman ZX and it has bar none the worst map design I have ever seen in a “metroidvannia” game. What the fuck man.
>tfw no girly boy domme
life is not painful enough
What's the biggest "got stuck" part in this game, for those who got past it? Surely, it ended up being an "oh yeah" moment.
I remember loving that game until about halfway through then being bored out of my mind. Fuck the door keys, that shit was the definition of forced and unfun.
This is how it's supposed to feel to be lost in Demon Castle Castlevania. Congrats.
No, that's the issue. It's literally just checking every single part of the map that you might have missed, it doesn't feel natural like a good metroidvania does. Out of the seven IGAvanias this is probably the weakest, which is sad because it has a lot of good moments but fucks up a lot of stuff as well.
I never played it. how does it work?
Is Juste the worst Belmont? He’s certainly the faggiest and the most inbred.
Basically you switch between two different castles using portals.
It means you have to explore every area twice and also have to figure out what portal will get you where you want to go. It's like trying to unfurl christmas lights.
And you have to do that while looking at the gaudiest graphics in the franchise and listening to music like this:

let me guess, you beat the minotaur and dont know where to go
No I was stuck just after talking to Death and going to Castle B then exploring what I felt was everything available
turns out i had to break a wall and fight maxim
I remember when this game was released. It came out in Japan first, so I downloaded the Japanese rom and went ahead and played through it in VBA. I got stuck for a long time because I didn't know that I received a key during one of those cutscenes with Maxim.
I don't really remember, there's a couple points where I get lost in the midgame. But I usually just puzzle it out.
I genuinely like this game.
>faggiest
he has a cute maid gf
Meanwhile Richter is the retard who got the vampire killer tainted for ages.
I think some areas were neat. It felt kind of like Castle B existed in some world that had fallen into madness. A few of the songs conveyed that theme well, like the one for the clock tower:

Which one has the best map?
Yeah HoD has a really bizarre atmosphere that I kind of love. With the soundtrack and bizarre visuals it feels like you're stuck in a fucking nightmare at times.
>Simon's Quest establishes that once Simon gets all of Dracula's remains and destroy them at his castle Dracula's curse will end once and for all
>Harmony shows that the castle (and thus eventually Dracula) only returned because Maxim got his remains back together
>tfw literally everything after Simon's Quest is this guy's fault
what the fuck was his problem?
>HoD
No thanks, I don't want eye cancer.
Play Metroid Fusion instead
But that's in space and not in an old spooky castle that's not what I want
How the fuck did he get his remains again if they were destroyed, genius?
Aria or Symphony (if you ignore upside down castle). Portrait, Ecclesia, and Dissonance gimp themselves by detracting from the castle. Circle is good too.
I like all the music in this game
Dawn, too bad the gameplay is sluggish in that one
idk the lore is all stupid
Dawn's clock tower blows too much to be the best castle.
When's 1999?
Richter fucked up so hard and was so depending on magic that he lost the vampire killer and ruined his bloodline for CENTURIES. The guy was a loser
What was wrong with it? Great boss fight, I remember that.
i actually have the two bracelets but cant find where to fight maxim. where go?
when making otakoomer oriented games becomes unprofitable for konami.
which means never.
The boss fight was good but the annoying platforming combining with dawn having slower movement makes a low point in an otherwise good game. Especially because the warp point was after the boss.
If you have the two bracelets you already fought "Maxim" when he turned into the Shadow in his evil form.
Now you go in the chapel just above that room in castle A and you can open an orange door and go through those iconic stairs up to Dracula's chamber where Maxim said Lydie was
Isn't he in that one cube at the bottom of the map? Can't remember which castle.
Something something, Dracula can just instantly regenerate due to Chaos
nvm i used the skull key in b castle and un locked the other half of it
I always found Circle's castle to be pretty dull. Every area just branches off from the hub main hall, so half the game is you listening to Sinking Old Sanctuary.
i only dislike this game for how boring magician mode is
>I HATE IT
HE HATES IT
While the movement is shit, the castle itself is good enough. No paintings, stages, or a second half where it's literally the same castle again but upside down, just castle.
Yeah but the areas are samey as fuck. So many long horizontal hallways with recolored enemies.
I still like CotM but its very basic. Feels like they were trying to find a way to mix classic CV design with SOTN at times, which I do think is an admirable effort.
Never actually played it but I at least appreciate all those modes for replay value, its kind of a cool idea.
I've played through the other GBA Castlevanias several times, yet I can't seem to muster the energy for this one. It's just so boring.
>only the whip and subweapons/spells; at least CotM had the Mars card to have cool weapons
>Juste moves like he's on the moon
>magic book system is extremely underwhelming, only a few combinations are actually worth your time
>exploration is nonlinear but in the most bland possible way
>no real personality to the game or its level design, with rooms feeling the exact same every time
>boss design is either "classical monster archetype" or "Classicvania boss without any real changes", and fights are just as generic and bland
>the music sounds worse than the game that came before it, which was rushed for the GBA launch
>game is a hard "it's decent, I guess" at best
How did they mess up so bad? At least Aria is fantastic to conpensate. I want to like this game, but it's just so mediocre
>only the whip and subweapons/spells
You can mix them up pretty nicely with the different elements, I feel
>While the movement is shit, the castle itself is good enough. No paintings, stages, or a second half where it's literally the same castle again but upside down, just castle.
Yeah, but it has hallways with copypasted enemies who are recolors aswell
The most memorable part of CotM are the bosses, everything else just kind of blurs together.
That's a good point. I still remember reacting to the zombie dragon eating its kin and recovering health, what a cool moment.
I thought the spells were neat.
COTM had some awesome bosses. Shame everything past the Necromancer and up to Hugh gets completely neutered by Cross spam, because that boss theme was badass
the spell combinations that are good though basically snap the difficulty in two (not that the game was that challenging to begin with)
Proof of Blood is so fucking good too. Dracula's a cheap bitch but that theme is a banger.
>including fan-games
Have you tried not being retarded and look at your map? that usually works.
Just spam thunder bird summons, makes the fight a cakewalk
yeah you said it yourself: "usually"
>dude just rely on these card drops with terrible rng XD
You chose the worst one for that, then.
Juste is a man?
>He doesn't use the easily exploitable DSS glitch which gives him acess to all card combinations
Grinding for cards is obnoxious
>dude Dracula is easy just glitch all the cards in XD
