I actually did this on an emulator about ~12 years ago and it worked fine. I even played Smash Bros with it. I only ended up upgrading to an analog stick controller when I started playing Banjo-Tooie and one of the jiggies required tip-toeing

The game is literally only good because it is in VR though, it would be an incredibly sub-par FPS if played normally.

You have arena fights with like a maximum of 5 combine soldiers. Headcrabs now miss you and land on their backs to give you a chance to hit them in VR.
Tension comes from having manually reload your pistol as a whole 3 (THREE) headcrab zombies come at you.

Wrong, none of the weapons from A;yx are in, just half-implemented HL2 weapons. And almost everything doesn't work outside of walking, opening doors, and lifting physics objects. No ladders or anything else.

If people didn't want to play a gimped game, ports wouldn't even exist.

Source wasn't really moddable per se, it's just that developers didn't went out of their way to encode and compile everything into binary files so it was easy to change stuff up.

I've been watching this stream since this morning so I'll clarify for anyone who is wondering what this is.

Tyler is essentially playing HL:A in Source 2's debug mode.
This allows him to clip around the game and run levels in 2D mode.

Here's what works:
>Positional Movement
>Door opening. Relegated to a button, does not turn handle or play sound effects
>Weapon firing

Overall the game is playable but in a very rough state.

Here's what doesn't work
>Weapon Reloading
>Hand Movement
>Jumping
>Teleportation
>Several Models and Sound Effects

This would mean the player is extremely gimped in terms of traversal and movement and would not be able to finish the game in this state.

Do note as well, this is the retail version 1.0. Since release, Valve has updated the game once already. You cannot enter this 2D debug mode in any other version besides 1.0 as it has been already been removed in the latest patch.

Imagine having to do a lockpicking minigame to open every ammo crate and health kit in HL2. Physics puzzles were kind of silly, but they didn't overstay their welcome as much as hacking the samo old ammo crate or weapon fabricator. Next playthroughs I'm just playing with infinite ammo and reisin, fuck that shit.
