Detail in what ways he is worse than alyx.

Who is this? HUNK?

yup, nu-valve doesnt deserve him

He's far better than Alyx, I just don't trust how NuValve will handle him.

He belongs to Randy

I was certain it was G-man in the box until I remembered Shepherd and got excited that they might bring him back.

Unfortunately we'll never get Shepherd back. Valve doesn't know what to do with Race X, even though you could easily just have them be a Combine slave species. Or even an enemy of the Combine (but not the good guys either). It's one of those "another company made this piece of lore, so we don't want to touch it".

You just loaded a magazine full of buzzwords and just fired full-auto, huh?

I've had conversations with chatbots deeper than you. Come back when you develop an original thought.

>buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz
so this is the power of Yas Forums

well valve never handled him in the first place

Opposong Force was a great expansion pack, but Shephard was the complete antithesis of what made Gordon a standout videogame character in 1998. Video game protagonists up until then were usually big heroes, elites, the best of the best, chosen to save the world. Gordon was just a dorky scientist trying to survive. Shephard was once again the tough guy, training and experience on his side.
Gearbox were not wrong to create him, he was the only sensible choice for the theme, but people were wrong to latch onto him so hard, missing the point of Half-Life entirely.

Yea but bringing in shep doesn't mean race X has to come with

They can stay

point of half life is dumb then
also, the point of half like is gameplay

He wasn't really the big hero, he just didn't die. Sure he had training, but he wasn't a duke nukem, like hero

>tough guy, training and experience on his side.
his whole team had that and they died

this guy sounds based

shephard is just a standard hecu grunt

You have to bring up Race X at some point.
>Who is this guy? What did he do?
>He fought...
Gotta bring it up.

Valve needs to retcon Alyx and Eli out of the franchise. They've been obnoxious SJWistic WE WUZ KANGZ YAAAS QUEEN shit ever since Half-Life 2 and they're still obnoxious SJWistic WE WUZ KANGZ YAAAS QUEEN shit now.

I played opposing force and liked the guy like everyone else, but it's weird. Why do we give a shit about some expansion pack character, who fought a bunch of new enemies that would fuck up the lore if anyone took it seriously

Is it a class thing? We like having a relatively blue collar military man over PhD man? Just rah rah military tardism?

>missing the point of Half-Life entirely.
Gordon being an unlikely nerd was a defining character trait, but that does not make it the point of the entire series or even just the first game.

you typed this all out like it wouldn't make the ending 1000% better.

why would they fuck up the lore? Having MORE aliens run away from the Combine doesn't make less sense.

>my underdeveloped brain can't handle that there are people that look different than me reeeeee

No you don't. All you have to say is that he survived the Black Mesa Incident. What does Shepard or anyone know about Race X anyway? Even in Opposing Force nobody acknowledges them. To an outsider it isn't even clear that Race X exists as a separate entity; most people are going to assume they're just more Xen aliens.

Hell, when I played Opposing Force that's what I thought for years. You never even see them fighting the Xen aliens except for some shock troopers shooting at a Gargantua.

Yeah, his whole story in Opposing Force was basically him getting fucked over repeatedly and only surviving because G-Man felt like getting an extra action figure on his way outta Black Mesa.

They're not Xen aliens. They fought Xen aliens. The entire point of Race X was that they were non-Xen.

Opposing Force is the only good HL game.

They won't acknowledge him at all. The only reason the nuke was made canon was because Laidlaw really didn't want any more games set in Black Mesa.

Yeah, I can't believe when I saw Alyx in Half-Life 2 the first thing she said to me was
>"AAAYYY SHITT NIGGA, WE MAKING THE POLTARDS MAAADD HOMIE"

I want him back, but only in the background. The most interaction he should have with any of the main characters aside from G-Man is seeing them from a distance, fleeting glimpses like in OpFor.

It's true. Pretty much anybody could do what Gordon did if they had the worst excesses of the Black Mesa disaster laid at their feet.

For comparison, look at Isaac Clarke who actually does use his engineering knowledge to do all sorts of things a regular guy couldn't do in Dead Space.

My teenage infatuation with military badasses played a part in it but I started to feel bad for HECU once it became clear they're dying really bad to aliens. Black Mesa did that aspect of the threeway fight quite well.

I always thought Black Mesa overstated how badly HECU lost in the end. I mean, in original Half-Life it's implied that they more or less invaded Xen after Gordon slayed the Nihilanth. You can see Abrams tanks chilling in Xen during the G-Man's talk in the epilogue.

I KNOW they are not Xen aliens, you fucking dumbass. I asked where in the game this is communicating. Somebody not reading behind the scenes stuff or maybe the manual for Opposing Force will never know that Race-X is not more Xen aliens. Nothing about this is communicated to the player in the game. We never even see Xen aliens or Race-X aliens fighting, so most players won't even know that Race-X even exists. Did you not comprehend my post? Was it too complicated for you?

I said, when I played Opposing Force I never devised that Race-X was a thing or that they were a different faction from the Xen aliens. Why would I? No NPC's in the game comment on them being anything special and no where in the game do you witness them fighting regular Xen troops. So as far as the greater story is concerned, there is no reason or pressing need to bring them up again. Just do what I suggested,

>Who is Shepard?
>He's someone who survived the Black Mesa Incident.

What more NEEDS to be said? Use your brain. Try to think. I know it's hard, but just try.

Damn all I can remember was her yelling at Gordon for his straight white chad privilege.

What about Rosenberg and the other scientists that Barney escaped with from Blue Shift?
Or those two other HEV Scientists from that co-op game?

>I mean, in original Half-Life it's implied that they more or less invaded Xen after Gordon slayed the Nihilanth.
Maybe. That was all quite vague. Back in those days it wasn't clear who or what the G-Man was or who he really represented. Prior to the ending it was implied the military was overrun and forced to retreat from Black Mesa. This was supported in Opposing Force.

Half-Life was pretty open-ended about what had happened.

And Eli slapping Mossman on the ass and saying
>"WE WUZ SCIENTIZTZ N SHIET."

we all know who will actually come back

I thought you see tanks in Xen because the GoldSource engine couldn't change skyboxes without changing the level

That hoe does have a rather enticing booty.

There is a hint at the beginning that they aren't Xen aliens when a scientist says "I've never seen that species before". Black Mesa was already researching Xen and its creatures before the resonance cascade.

Bitchel and Adrian Shepard, brothers reunited, coming to unfuck the timeline after G-Man molested it so he could add Alyx to his gatcha collection.

this was never canon anyway.

why would it matter? Its loss for the canon for not having him

see

Shepard benefits from being one of the faceless generic enemies you face

>not canon

I bet they regret not forcing Randy to hand over the IP

Opposing Force and Homeworld Cataclysm are the two third-party expansions that are forever lost because of their outsourced status

>There is a hint
Yes I know, but it's very vague. It could be significant or it could be meaningless as far as Shepard or the player knows. All it means is that scientist hasn't seen that particular species before. Xen is presumably a big place with lots of aliens. It would take a long time to catalog all the wildlife.

Man I should play OPFOR again. That was a good fucking game. Especially after just finishing Black Mesa, which was worth a play if you haven't played HL in a while.

He's Randy's bitchboy though.

valve doesn't have a statement on canonicity
