You bought into the meme campaign.
what meme
Zodiac Age improved it dramatically
You grew up and became more sophisticated. Congrats.
fast forward button.
I didn't use it at all in my playthrough. Took me 220 hours to finish everything
Both of these. It's a fantastic game!
You became awful and slow, just like the pace of this game.
This makes no sense, user. Also it had a better pace to me than FFX for me, where I couldn't walk five steps without going into a cutscene, and the only dungeons consisted of me fondling balls.
At least I could explore in this one, which is what a JRPG should be about in the first place.
not my favorite, but it's the only japanese game I play with english dub on
There's only one game i played in my life with worst pacing than FFXII. That was Inquisitor where i almost dropped asleep on my keyboard. XII is extremely slow and uninteresting, burning every excitement you may for hours and hours. I think the game only picks up 10 hours in.
In the first 10 hours of the game, you witness a war, political backstabbing, the biggest city Square had created in a solo FF, an infiltration to the royal palace, getting jailed in a dungeon and escaping from it.
I don't know what you're on user, but the game picks up at the first minute. You can explore so many areas the moment you have control of Vaan, even places the game doesn't tell you to go at all.
This is it. A prime example of lots of fine editing turning a 5/10 into an 8.
Now this is madness though.
I liked walking around a lot. The music was so relaxing, the environment was so cool too. Everything about this game is like a meditative experience.
I especially loved walking in the cities. The music is incredible, especially with headphones. God, I feel like playing this game again with a challenge mod or something.
It's the only JRPG I played with an English dub that is massively better than the Japanese one. Best localization in the genre too.
Well, in the first hours of Inquisitor you fight demonic creatures, uncover witchcraft and corruption in the inner workings of the church while you try to burn the infidels. Sounds great right? Except execution is all that matters. It's the same issue with XII. The backdrop is cool, great. Except the actual conveying of it is extremely boring at the start.
I know about Inquisitor and I agree it is boring there but I really don't see how it compares. It's as boring on paper than it is in the game. FFXII is far more exciting to me.
The music of XII is pretty underrated, it’s really chill.
IM CAPTAIN BASCH
You're probably not 15 anymore.
I definitely have a newfound appreciation for TZA after deciding to replay it since dropping the game at the Pharos climb. I'd say the gameplay is up there as one of my favorites alongside FFXIII.
You aquired a taste.
Is the Zodiac Job System better in action than it is on paper? Part of the reason why I cant see the love for the rerelease is because of limiting my party members to certain things, instead of the anything goes aspect the original gave the license board.
i liked the gameplay, but what really annoyed me was that you get the majority of the skills way to early in the game even without grinding and from then on you just go full auto until the end with no gameplay whatsoever
wish the leveling was more rewarding and slower
frans english VA is dick enhancing
you realized you're playing as the villains
>220 hours
wew fukcing lad
i finished it in like 70 and it barely managed to keep me interested in those last 30 hours
i even did a nice chunk of the hunts
>alongside FFXIII
i don't know why people shit so much on 13 since i too like it, i think that LR has the best FF combat system out of any FF
t. not a lighting fag, fangfag tho
All of FFXII takes place on one peninsula in the world of FFXIV, geographically around where India would be.
Vayne and Venat were too extremist to be allowed to have their way. Had they taken their time instead of forcing action they would've been heroes because their fears for the future were correct as we saw in FF Tactics.
and in the end Ashe did what Venat wanted, Hume freedom from Occuria
hell Venat was surprised and glad when she broke the Suncryst
also the future paranoia was only from Vayne, Venat only wanted to break Occuria control over Humes
The limitation makes it better and more challenging.
zodiac age
I always thought buff Vayne was the actual final boss, but then I actually beat the game and legit did not expect the mecha-humanoid dragon thing with the final boss stage being the top of the Sky Fortress.
Problem is it makes the game too easy. Especially so because TZA adds a second jobs you can take as well.
the actual gamechanger was the removal of tiered magic queues(that exists in Vanilla/ITZJ because the PS2 was pushed to the limit for FF12)
>the anything goes aspect the original gave the license board
but when every character can do everything, it makes things boring.
in the original game, there is very little reason to use all 6 of your party members
>alongside FFXIII
based. I'm a long time FFfag, and I would say 13's combat is my favorite in the series.
you grew up like the other user said, 12 is easily the best ff game
You grew up.
People don't seem to understand that FFXII is very well written, EXTREMELY well performed, very intelligent combat all inside a spectacular world to read about and look at. They think:
>It's not FF X
>Gambits isn't action combat, I don't feel engaged-at-all-times
>Why don't I see people with goals, achieving them, and getting a happy, global "saved the planet" ending?
When the truth is this is quite probably the best Final Fantasy story and world in the entire franchise. It's the 8th game in history to receive an official 10/10 rating from the most respected reviewer in the world, and the first Final Fantasy, too. It's a phenomenal game to experience, but it doesn't guarantee you'll like it; it's a video game that delivers on its promises and exceeds them.
If you don't like JRPG and political intrigue, if you don't like magic and swordplay, if you don't like reading and exploring...don't buy FF12.
If you don't like spicy food, don't buy vindaloo.
I'm so glad I realized that the Bazaar, Cerobi Steppe RNG chests, and Abysteel grinding weren't needed at all to beat everything the game has to offer.
Looking at his portfolio it always me wonder what Matsuno could've achieved if he had something comparable to, I don't, Trails of Cold Steel or something where you have four interconnected games with the same protagonist.
Its the last final fantasy game.
I just wanna fuck Fran
Not to mention probably one of the best video game localizations ever done.
>its been 14 years since a decent FF
Too many children playing the game felt the theatre presence of it "was boring" and "it's too dull, there's no emotions." It was an Ivalice game, not a Nomura Kingdom Hearts.
>play it back in 2006
>drop it 7 hours in
>play international version in 2010
>drop it 5 hours in
>play zodiac age in 2020
>drop it after mateus
This game is honestly incredibly boring. I've even been able to finish FF13/15 but not 12
Should i get this or the FF X & X-2 bundle for switch?
More like there was nothing but FF13 for an entire generation, followed by an abysmal MMORPG at launch and then FF15 which was barely Final Fantasy.
How the fuck are you actually supposed to play this shit? Feels like it plays itself more than you have any real control over what battles look like.
And that one room where you teleport into rooms of different monsters just to get the treasure man remember that one place that was like a teleporting maze? that's where I dropped the fucking game. That one room made me realize just how fucking depthless the combat was.
Literally one of the few Japanese games where I'd rather use the English dub. A shame some of the voice acting got dragged down by having to sync up japanese lip movements. But the scenes with the Occuria speaking in literal iambic tetrameter really showcase what they can do unrestricted. Hiring actual stage actors instead of the usual anime people really helps too.
for my anecdotal evidence it's definitely weird how many western rpg fans got into ff12, people who otherwise cannot stand final fantasy. I guess it's the focus on world building and expansive story versus character drama.
>game explains that gambit is specifically for automation
>decide by yourself to program gambits for everyone
>do that by reading some guide, because there's no other way you could program something effective for everything in the game without knowledge
>"wtf why game is playing itself???"
Why is this board filled with drooling retards?
It's a Famitsu 40/40.
And did you know?
>Final Fantasy XII isn't just the 1st Final Fantasy game to receive a 40/40; it's the ONLY Playstation 2 game to receive a 40/40.
>Vagrant Story is also the ONLY Playstation 1 game to receive a 40/40.
>Writer Yasumi Matsuno is responsible for Final Fantasy XII. Writer Yasumi Matsuno is also responsible for Vagrant Story.
FFXII (and Matsuno) is great.
preety much this
>Famitsu
who's the reviewer?
>i.4cdn.org
Holy shit. It went from
>we're angels, what lovely speaking, come child, let's develop Ivalice
to
>VENAT IS A HERETIC!
>*music stops*
>*deep beat silences everything*
>*Ashe recoils in shock and gasps for breath*
And people say this game lacks emotion?
Reminder this man is now working on mobile games.
Gambit system is still too gimped. Cant make order that makes character stop using steal after there is nothing to steal for example.
Don't know, but
>saw like 30 hours of gameplay when it released from my friends playing
>hated
>4 years later I give it a try
>became my favorite FF
It is an acquired taste, I guess.
Anyone have tips on getting Mist Walker trophy?
This game came out in 2006, user.
Setting up gambits really isn't as complex as people make it out to be. You're basically just automating stuff that would otherwise be redundant and time-consuming when done manually, and honestly most regular encounters don't require much thought so automation really is the optimal way to handle them.
I've listened to the XII OST countless times. Love Sakimoto and it's my favorite OST he's done still. The whole game has fantastic aesthetic. I wish we got more at this level of fidelity
FF12 OST is terrific, but it's an Ivalice soundtrack rather than Final Fantasy one. That kinda confuses people who go in expecting Uematsu.
Everyone eventually felt the same before. I found myself switching characters more often in Zodiac Age because people were better at different things
>ashe's pose
>penelo tugging her own hair
why is this game so filled with whores
Vayne was too underdeveloped imo iirc. I would have actually liked if he ended up convincing Larsa of his goals and larsa ended up being the main antagonist, given his relationship to the characters
You simply place "Steal" under another action in your list. Gambit is simple developing priority, user. That's ALL it is. When the conditions are met, if performs the action.
>The entire Gambit system is "too gimped" because I set "Steal" as my #1 action to perform set in the first slot for all 3 of my characters and I'm upset it follows my command!
I was replying to somebody claiming the game plays itself which would imply they somehow set up a working gambit for every encounter including bosses.
Only way to do so is having prior knowledge or grinding so hard that everything becomes easy anyway.
You witnessed shit games for the past 14 years and likely 0 good JRPGs.
It did not unless you're playing it at light speed then that isn't an improvement, it's a cheat.
>XV
>not your favorite FF
This. Part of the reason I love the ivalice games and other similar titles (XBC1 comes to mind) is because of how they avoid that "weeb" vibe
I never thought of it that way but that does explain a lot
All I wish is that you could have one extra tier of actions to mark as long as the top one is true
Imagine being someone who's first FF was 15.
Well you CAN set up easy gambits for regular encounters but I'll definitely say that manual control and on-the-fly gambit adjustments is something that you should be doing for Hunts and optional bosses which is where the system really shines.
The whoke point of Larsa is that he was incorruptible in his own way. Larsa remaining true to his goals despite his naivete is better than your made-up headcanon that wouldn't have developed anyone
You can claim "underdeveloped" as an opinion for basically anyone in an Ivalice story, user. But Vayne meets all the beats to give you background, motivation, justification, screen time, action and even empathy for him as the regal leader of the Archadian Empire, more set on the goal of removing humanity from Occurian influence. He fails and, ironically, Ashe succeeds his exact same goal herself, before him. He's a wonderful antagonist, and beautiful performed.
All his relationships are effective, too: he's the emperor and his council and Judge Magistrates are all difficult to control. Venat's role and ethereal advisor/friend, responsible for handing Vayne "the rose of knowledge to man's hands," is displayed enough to show the trust and how Vayne's ego is neither superficial or superfluous; he feels shame. He loves his little brother and tries desperately to keep him from all the actions he acknowledges he's been forced to do to accomplish his plans.
As for Ashe and company...he doesn't need any sort of relationhsip with them whatsoever. In fact, that's pointed out at the very end of the game, just before your 2nd to final fight with him, when he actually confronts you. "Welcome!...May I ask; who are you?" It's fantastic. He knows who they are, but THAT relationship was never important for anyone's goals or reasons.
Best limit/overdrive system in FF hands down.
