Is the first half of Dark Souls the greatest 3D world design of all time?
Is the first half of Dark Souls the greatest 3D world design of all time?
the world design of dark souls drops significantly already after undead burg, memehackzaki even said so himself.
That makes no sense. Undead burg is the first level. It's not really a world by then. The world design starts to shine when you unlock the elevator shortcut in Parish, kick the ladder down after the drake, open the gate in the aquaduct...etc The peak is when you go through Depths and go all the way down to Blighttown and come back out to Firelink again.
Perhaps.
Yes nothing compares
You are now aware of your own breathing and the fact that depths is skippable without master key by traversing valley of drakes via the cave in darkroot basin
Nope
But it's easily one of the best
It's up there just in the fact they make something relatively small seem so massive. The verticality is definitely a factor in why it's so great to explore, which is something they've been trying to replicate in pretty much every Souls game since, and even something that they did with Demon's Souls. Almost Boletaria and Latria you're moving up the whole time, but Stonefang, Valley of Defilement, and Shrine of Storms have you going down.
I miss the early days of DS1 so bad, bros.
YES
BEST GAME IN THE FRANCHISE WOOOOOOOW
>It's up there just in the fact they make something relatively small seem so massive.
Agreed, this is IMO the biggest success of Dark Souls' world design. Great use of space.
>hurr durr let's walk through 5 different biomes in less than 2 minutes
unironicly this
> the fact that depths is skippable without master key by traversing valley of drakes via the cave in darkroot basin
wow... ive been playing this game for fucking years and never thought about that. i feel fucking retarded.
what the fuck are you even talking about? pretty much everything is a fucking forest unless you're underground - and its pretty clear in the lore why izalith is full of fucking lava instead of just a regular cave.
If you're talking about blight town, its still a forest biome. Its below undeadburg where all the sewage and other waste washes into explaining the cancer swamp.
So please tell me user, what 5 biomes are you talking about?
>the lighting keeps changing and i'm mad!
But that's not right, is it?
You can get to Sif that way, but how are you supposed to ring the second bell without going through the Depths or Blighttown shortcut?
Never mind, just remembered where the locked door is you use the master key on. I guess that would work.
>Second half bad
Why do so many people say this? Yeah Lost Izalith is crap but that's pretty much it. Duke's archives is one of the best areas in the game
>hurr durr everything is a forest
>Duke's archives is one of the best areas in the game
I don't understand, I thought everyone used the caves in Darkroot basin to get to the valley of drakes and then from there either go to new londo (where you would get raped) or Blightown (where you get raped, albeit much less so). That's how I discovered Blighttown first time. i didn't even know about the Depths until like 15 hours in.
You don't seem to understand what "biome" means.
Why only the first half? Is the second half bad?
It is!
It's not, it's a meme that everyone parrots
It's the best after Anor Londo, at least. Still not up to par with anything from the fist half, though
IDK how but I always figured out the depths and don't ever remember taking the back way to valley of the drakes on my first initial runs. I've come back that way plenty of times and use that to skip the hellkite drake all the time. I just never thought about going the other way til you mentioned it though. Also its not like theres really any other starting gift worth picking aside from the masterkey unless you're a speed runner.
>different trees, grass and flowers
>completely different animals and habitants
>hurr durr tree = tree, flower = flower
Stop giving me (you)s morons and open your eyes when walking through the game.
Duke's archives is miles ahead of blighttown
Its a gross over exaggeration of a mere pace shit that occurs once you reach a certain act.
Over the years it has been exaggerated more and more.
>Second half bad!
>Everything after OnS bad!
>Everything after Sens bad!
And so on. Its a parroted meme that holds no ground.
Yes it is, everything after Anor Londo is a slog. Catacombs are pretty cool, but you probably explored those before facing Marx & Engels anyway
bruh look at this dood
I did this on accident in my first playthrough.
Yes but I think the game shines best with Firelink/NewLondo/Burg/Darkroot/Depths-Blighttown, everything thereafter is still good, but not quite as intricate.
That said, it's still my fav fantasy vidya of all time second to Demon's Souls. Replaying the remaster right now and I'm working through to NG+7 since I tested positive for bat soup virus and need to keep occupied.
yeah man, it's pretty good
Because it's true and the latter half of the game is shit.
>Catacombs
shit
>Valley of the Drakes
shit
>Dukes
shit
>New Londo
shit
Only the Painted World is interesting.
me too, before meme youtubers with their cancer pvp builds, the PREPARE TO DIE memers (I know FROM marketed the game with it, don't remind me) who gatekept this gem of a game, and the ironybros who would say things like SUNBRO, CRESTBRO, SIF THE DOGGO, etc.
Fuck Vaati too, ruined the mystery of the games.
Until you elaborate, your post holds no weight.
Dukes would be alright if in NG+ you could skip the Seathe death. I had 72 humanity and that cunt raped me.
After beating Bloodborne and sekiro I finally started the DaS trilogy. While I found the combat in 1 to be a bit slower and frustrating it was an excellent game and I can see why people remember their first time in anor londo so fondly. I just finished no mans warf in 2 and I have really enjoyed it so far.
This is Yas Forums, by default my posts hold as much weight as everyone elses, yours included
You can skip the Seath death. You can also use a rare ring of sacrifice.
No. If you explained your points with consise arguments then your post would have backbone.
The fact that you didnt shows that you cant.
I know you can skip it with the elevator jump, I do that every playthrough now, but aside from that I mean. It would be cool if in NG+ you could rape him in the first room. I hate the snake jail part, it's gay.
what if i told you time is convoluted and the winding path you're walking is not just distance but also through time.
that's only in dark souls 3 bro
Yep, you don't know what a biome is.
Just finished DS2+DLCs 3 days agoand loved it.
Is it worth getting the remaster version of this game? Heard nothing good about desu
Too bad every dictionary in the world agrees with me and none with you.
>on accident
I love how the idea behind every area is that it's closed off out of fear for the next area.
The normal undead didn't want anything to do with the ghetto undead. Then the really violent ghetto ghoulies go to prison, where they built a barricade for the the even weirder creatures in Blighttown, who in turn wanted nothing to to with all the demons below.
And when you go up the reverse happens, where the gods don't want anything to do with the mortals
yes but bare in mind DSR has the retarded weapon level matchmaking for mp from Dark Souls 3.
Thanks user
why do twinks act like their opinion matters?
>Ladders & elevators
It's cool but overrated as fuck.
>Being surprised that people obsessed with PvP in a 1p ARPG lack self-awareness
>why do people good enough to get endgame gear without dying, something that's been commonplace since Demon's Souls, think their opinion matters?
Gee PVP faggot i wonder why.
>NOOOOOOO YOU CANT USE A BLACK KNIGHT SWORD ON ME I WANNA PLAY AS A NAKED SORCERER GIRL AAAA IT'S NOT FAIR STOP TWOSHOTTING ME REEEEEEEEEE
The only good parts in the archives is the prison section and the rotating stairs and strictly the stairs, not including the shitty hallways with reskinned enemies
This. The vast majority of the archives are crap that rely on mobs instead of interesting enemies or encounter design. People seem to confuse it having atmosphere with being good.
dude you're fucking retarded, just admit you have no idea what you're talking about. backpedal and say you were only pretending if that makes you feel better.
the entirety of overworld darksouls is either forest or taiga biome depending on how you want to look at it, but let me brake down your post even more.
>different trees, grass and flowers
give examples. What trees and grass and flowers are you talking about? The only trees you can really see are the ones in darkroot as well as maybe some coniferous types in the far backgrounds, but you never actually go to any of those places. What flowers even, the ones in darkroot? Where else has any flowers that are different? Also the grass is the fucking same in every area, just with different lighting. The only areas that fucking have accessable grass anyways are darkroot, valley of drakes, and dukes archives.
inb4 ashlake - not overworld and its the remnants of the age of ancients, not exactly a different biome
>completely different animals and habitants
first off habitants dont matter as people move where they wish. What animals are you talking about?
-armored boars dont count as they are war livestock
-drakes/dragons can be fucking anywhere and dont denote a particular biome
-crystal golems are seath's creations and dont denote a particular biome
-the demon firebeasts in blight town are most likely just born of chaos.
-off the top of my head the only 5 "natural" animals i can think of in the game are the cats/trees/snakes in darkroot, the poison insects in blighttown, and the moonlight butterflys in crystal cave and darkroot. None of these things actually have any definitive IT ONLY MAKES SENSE FOR THEM TO BE IN X BIOME at all
>hurrr what about oolacile?!
once again, also forest biome, but also takes place in a distant past in a different fucking zone entirely
>durr what about painted world??!!
fucking magical realm thats separate from the world, doesnt count
>tl;dr-you're retarded
