Frankly, it seems like the game is a resounding success and most people do enjoy it. Which in a game that takes quite a few risks is actually close to a miracle.
Some people won't get over the design and some of it's more controversial decisions. The game was not made to please everyone (which I think is admirable on its own).
Others are just contrarian, or people who shit on games by sheer force of habit. It's actually quite amazing just how many of the latter are here. That is not to say there aren't legitimate criticisms to be leveled at the game: but the vast majority of the complaints aren't those.

It has calmed down a lot, mind you. Compared to the shitstorm two days ago, Yas Forums is not comparatively positively enlightened about the game. It's funny how eventually, much of the shitting on the game just literally emancipated itself into numerous "all games are shit" threads, that eventually Jannies started to crack down on.

I like it, but I don't suck it's cock like the rest of Yas Forums does and can acknowledge that it does have genuine flaws.

I do like the new Doom. It's far tougher than 2016, the plot's interesting, gorgeous Quake Arena esqe aesthetics plus the whole usual hellscapes with a touch of Quake 1 here and there.

I think it's meh. I get what they were going for, but I find it less enjoyable to play now that it is less of a pure shooter.

I would agree with you if not for the rune you get within the first 20 minutes that allows you to speed up glory kills. They last like a second with it and completely fixes my biggest gripe with the game.

I played DooM on my uncle's bulky laptop when I was a kid. And when DooM (2016) came out I liked it while others were busy shitting on it. That as much dishonest as it gets.

My biggest gripe is the color pallete. I actually enjoyed 2016's brown and bloom, it was suitable for a hellscape. Now it's just a vomit rainbow, not game breaking but I'm still constantly aware it's a video game, if that makes sense.

But the real problem is all the unskippable mini-cutscenes for bullshit like doors opening, elevator rides, plugging in sentinel batteries, watching a doom hunter's torso get pulled from a sarcophagus, etc etc etc.

Even without the familiar brand name slapped on, it would still be trash.

I don't disagree, but oh well. Honestly the runes aren't so varied that I was agonizing over which one to use, so I didn't really miss the slot.

It's not Doom. It's not even a good game. They had to pander to bigots to sell this trash. Everything I've seen about it put me the fuck off from day one- the Master Chief ripoff armor, the bad gameplay, the stolen elements from Metroid Prime, the fact it was NOT Doom. The bigot trailer shit was just a last stray in a shitpile reboot I hated from day one. I'd rather my HDD catch fire than have this shit installed.
