No normalfags

Fun.

FUN

Demo discs

The genres and franchises we left behind in favor of flavor of the year shooters and movie games

Small LAN parties with friends

Oh man I miss demo discs, I sometimes had more fun with demos than full games

being a dumb kid without a care in the world

Post images that make you feel nostalgiac.

Metreon in San Francisco, now closed.

Take me back.

fuuuck, this. Demo disks everywhere. In your cereal, in your pizza. Honestly made being super poor a lot more enjoyable as a kid. Now I can buy all the vidya I want but its not the same sense of excitement

This and arcade

i was still young enough to let the world fade away and immerse myself completely in a game. Everything else was secondary.
I'd give anything to get that back.

Big box pc games were the shit

This is what I miss the most. I remember when computers and video games were weird nerdy hobbies that people didn’t understand. Fuck the smart phone and fuck the Xbox 360 era.

ok boomer

Why is there so much nostalgia for this era of gaming?

Attached: 1584636006482.jpg (1125x1112, 193.98K)

Being 20 years younger.

It felt like things were changing so fast compared to now.

No wireless controller lag
CRTs with no video lag
Snappier gameplay due to the above

We didn't appreciate it fully when it was here.

Attached: 000.png (960x572, 928.5K)

Fuck, man. That looks so chill.

less niggers and ugly women being shoehorned into games

Attached: 1399125789629.jpg (625x416, 33.49K)

friends

yes and less fags too

This has so much larger implications too. Games weren't as dumbed down, gamers had standards and demands which devs/pubs would actually listen to, we still had map/mod tools, master servers, and community-run dedi servers.

because we had no idea how bad the industry was gonna get

The constant change and bright future. 1996 vs 2006 was a far more radical change than 2010 vs 2020.

because the people that were 12 in 2000 are not adults

the industry was always shitty you just didn't notice it.

Arcades

Playing Metal Slug 3 with a group of 5 people, in which nobody knows eachother, collectively trying to finish the game with the 10 coins and really heavy kicks they could get was some of the best time I've ever had.

No forced diversity bullshit. Devs had more creative freedom to do what they wanted.

god I have that mouse.

The ability to just jump into a server in any multiplayer game, join a game in progress with a players of varying skill that were all on an equal playing field, and just have fun playing the game. Genuinely, there are literally no modern popular multiplayer games where you can just join and play away and be on an equal footing. Literally everything is round based, heavily meta-defined, ranked and based entirely around pre-game choices.
How the actual shit did this die? I just want to play videogames.

Games being complete.

6th gen was the peak of the "frat boy gamer era". That was THE generation of Halo and GTA and Madden. You're obviously underage and didn't play games back then otherwise you'd know that.

>video games were weird nerdy hobbies

This is something that never happened.

What is that?

>Being able to play console/handheld games right out of the box. No day 1 updates
>Game manuals
>Renting games
>Dedicated servers
>No social media
>The waning years of word-of-mouth. I'll never forget that time my friend told me about Giga Bowser in Melee
>My youth

THIS RIGHT HERE.

>dozens of all-time classics coming out every single year without exception for decades
>GREAT games being released almost every single week for decades
>well over a hundred decent to good games released every year, year after year after year for several consecutive generations
>"le the gaming industry was always shit am I an oldfag now redditbros? XD"

I miss the times when I only heard about good games because game magazines weren't full of bribed puppets.

Attached: 1372588608261.jpg (1999x1499, 597.62K)

>game magazines weren't full of bribed puppets

When was that? The 80s? Because that's probably the last time gaming magazines were honest.

The 2008 economic crisis was one of the worst things to happen to entertainment. It gave the suits way too much power and creative control over the final product as well as ditch pitches and concepts they deemed unfit. They neutered any aspect that made a game stand out. In return we got a sea of mundane shit with a few decent games inbetween.

Because the kids who didn't get the 90s nostalgia thread are now old enough to have 00s nostalgia threads.
In 10 years, we're gonna have nostalgia threads about 2010, saying it was the best decade.

Attached: emo4412.jpg (460x690, 62.32K)

im just here to be a nostalgiafag, i just want to go back

Attached: msn w13412 wind 2004 epi.jpg (600x450, 75.2K)

I'll never be able to truly appreciate and jack off to scene girls, because they all remind me too much of my older sister.

nigga, kids think this decade sucks NOW

things are THAT bad

It was so good that they made a new iteration of it after like 15 years. I actually bought one recently because I used an Intellimouse years ago.

Attached: MICROSOFT-Classic-IntelliMouse.png (786x587, 32.09K)

Fuck you. You make me feel

Attached: 1580364127028.gif (336x192, 1.64M)

because what used to be a space to enjoy all kinds of video games, devs being creative and taking chances, and FUN has now turned into cash grabbing jew trannies squeezing every last cent out of you with The Years Rehash 11

Attached: F7NJepWGdlO1cnPMVytBr0Io3yd11RbfWXKHoV1axrs.jpg (600x800, 110.42K)

That it was only for men.

Being trans was accepted

no it wasnt. it was a lot more creative with a much smaller market. no one takes chances, certainly not the big names, and those that do are usually a handful of devs churning out Pixel Shit: More Pixels

zoomer

This.

Surely that just makes it hotter?

I'm pretty sure they shipped fully finished and complete games back in the day

Splitscreen.

Pokemon was the most casual normie-core game back then and still is.

less people worried about optimization in their gameplay, in regards to game mechanics and time use rather than graphics or how well your machine runs the game

Attached: 1557935630442.jpg (2048x1286, 241.23K)

Glitters, pure soul.

Being young

You just need to look at the modern remakes to see the difference

fuck, the warcraft 3 "reforged" was so fucking atrocious that not only was the new game terribly made, it also deleted the fucking old game

say what you will about activision but when they remade Crash & Spyro, at least those ones were functional and didn't delete the older versions

Blizzard is legitimately worse than Activision now, which is ironic as fuck

Good gameplay

PC Accelerator

I miss having the patience to enjoy a piece of shit game. Now I can't enjoy anything. I'd rather read.

We'll never make that mistake again.

The most sorely missed feature of all for me.

>now they sell the games at pieces, you need to pay 50$ to get the complete game
>pay to win, loot boxes, exclusive content with money only, dlc, early acces with money
fuck off faggot
