So far this is a 6 or 7 out of 10 for me. It's not the worst shooter I've ever played, but it's nowhere near the best. The game is too reliant on glory kills to be truly fun most of the time, the art direction is an absolute mess, and the UI is ugly as shit. Also, ammo as a mechanic in action shooters should only serve to encourage players to diversify their weapon selection and not abuse more powerful weapons. In a survival game, limited ammo is completely fine as a design choice, but DOOM shouldn't be a fucking survival game. If you think I'm complaining about it because it's too hard, you're wrong. It's not hard, it's just that the way the game wants me to play it is simply not that much fun.

Another retard filtered because they don't know the chainsaw recharges and gives you most of your ammo back.

What a waste of time. Thread hidden.

Keep playing and you’ll get the hang of it

What shooter do you think is better?

Annd I expected this as a first response. It's almost as if you didn't read the post or something. I do use the chainsaw and use glory kills as the game intended and it's simply not that much fun to play. It's irritating design. I don't even think the game is that bad, but it has fundamental flaws in design that hold it back.

it's actually more fun if you turn on unlimited jump, dash and ammo

Here's a few: Old Doom games, Blood, Half LIfe 1, Halo 2, F.E.A.R.

That's just naming a few.

youtu.be/cd47x85C7Hk

Yeah so many glory kills. Just look at all that time spent glory killing. Won’t someone think of the hardcore twitch fps fans who cannot bear to approach an enemy? Also weapon switching makes me very uncomfortable, why can’t I just use one gun forever? The devs are trying to force players to spend so much time glory killing and not enough time ballista sniping, its unbearable.

I don't know how you can boot up doom 1/2 and say it's better than Eternal. I played them earlier today even. They just get boring really fast

I love Eternal but it's enjoyment stems merely from the non-stop stimulus. From a design perspective, DOOM 1/2 are objectively superior games in regards to level design and how players are to adapt to new situations.

This

>was saying this exact shit about the first nudoom
>Got shit on
>Sequel is same shit being locked in a room with waves of enemies spawning in
>hoes mad
Lol

>le glory kills
As someone who hates cinematic bullshit more than any other single person this is such a fu...
>and not abuse more powerful weapons
>a complaint
please don't make threads

So instead of just having more ammo we now have to do a song and dance to get more ammo? How is that more fun?

The engine couldn't handle it if it was handled like classic DOOM. Imagine if all the demons were loaded into the level simultaneously and acted on their own accord before you even encounter them. Monster arenas are a necessary evil and they provide the fast-paced experience that most players desire.

In what way? They are really simple honestly, with very basic enemies that have no AI. Having a cacodemon come out of a hidden room isn't masterful level design.

Did you read properly? I didn't bring up not abusing more powerful weapons as a complaint. I was talking about a general way how ammo should work in shooters. Nowhere did I complain that Doom Eternal limited my use of powerful weapons. I'm just complaining how it limits my use of weapons in general. Please learn to read before you post next time.

Because it makes you have to stay aggressive, not spam the stronger weapons, and use the game’s tools to succeed.

90% of my deaths in Nightmare so far have been because I got stuck on a weird piece of the map or a random small demon popped around a corner and cause me to lose momentum for .05 seconds and thats all it takes to go from full health to no health because every enemy can accurately target me

OP here. I also didn't like the first nuDoom that much. I thought it was a somewhat tedious experience.

I disagree, it makes me stop what I'm doing, dash toward an enemy and sit through an animation so I can get back to what I actually wanna do.

Doom 1 and 2 design is incredibly overhyped by people. They confuse incredibly limited movement and enemy AI and large levels with quality design. Really only some WODs are very well designed.

It's literally 1 second or less what kind of adhd

You can't say that DOOM 1/2 level design is simple without conceding that 2016/Eternal's is even simpler. The classic maps are more mazelike and require actual exploration in order to finish the level, not just to discover secrets. Once again, I love both of the modern games, but they are rather braindead below the surface level.

While I do enjoy Eternal, I do agree that it's a stim. There is almost no downtime, which is fine, I guess. Get's a tad... Irritating?

I feel like the only person in the world who is in love with this games art direction
this is the closest thing to a modern day Heretic and I don’t understand why no one else likes the multidimensional dark-fantasy look

That 1 second or less begins to add up the more you are required to do it. It adds stimulus to what I'm doing, sure. But it still noticeably breaks the flow of the game.

They are just big, the exploration is braindead and boring. I want to kill stuff not run around an empty level for keys.

You are comparing OG and nu doom levels but completely ignoring the fact that the nu doom enemies do more than shamble towards you throwing slow ass projectiles

Do you enjoy using the chainsaw? All I'm saying is that I would prefer not to have to.

The exploration is vastly more involved and intricate than the modern games. This cannot be denied. I believe you are starting to misinterpret my statement. I said that Eternal's appeal is the non-stop action, which is true. DOOM 1/2's appeal is the map design, which is true. I'm not implying anything else.

It's Bethesda-drone he will rabid to defend every single element in Zoom

There's even a rune to make it like 3 times as fast if somehow 1 second without shooting bullets breaks your immersion

>There's even a rune
>in a fucking FPS
Back to Fallout Toddie

Do you dislike DOOM Eternal or do you just dislike every game that was published by Bethesda.

Ah yes, another issue. I sure love my RPG elements in my shooty shoot game.

You haven't played it lmao you're just parroting 1:1 what youve read on Yas Forums

>can't hold any fucking ammo
>maxes out at 16 shotgun shells at first
>doesn't get much better
>have to fucking constantly stop and use a chainsaw on a weak enemy
This is fucking getting old.

>or do you just dislike every game that was published by Bethesda.
Yeah since they are all console shit.

The only people who are complaining about the glory kills and "cutscenes" are those with ADD and simply cannot stand not stimming constantly.

Someone post the picture of this stupid faggot I dont have it saved

In what way is nuDOOM console shit.

Thats another thing, why is there like 50 fucking upgradeable things in this game? Do people really enjoy getting 10% bigger explosion here, 1 second faster animation there?

Yes I enjoy it being able to yank me out of being cornered and the intagibility granted through out the entire animation

Yes, the game demands that you constantly be aggressive and actually think about your actions. If you want just mindless violence you may go play DOOM 2016 where every single issue can be solved with the super shotty.

>most well known for games with a strong modding scene
>console shit
based retard

>DOOM 1/2 are objectively superior games in regards to level design

>there's even a rune
You clearly haven't even touched the game why are you in this thread about a game you don't care about

user if you wanted to press buttons to see animations you could just go to YouTube.

>small levels
>RPG elements
>low numbers of enemies
>cinematic melee
>bad graphic engine

Did Lost Souls just never do anything for anyone else? They seemed to just run around doing nothing, so pain elementals were basically bulkier weaker cacodemons.

How the fuck is walking around empty Doom 1/2 maps looking for keys intricate and involved? It's about as boring and straightforward as it gets. If I want fun exploration I'd play Zelda or Metroid. Eternal at least has platforming that enhances exploration AND combat.

The appeal of the old games to me is the no nonsense fast action and movement. The key hunting is just padding. Some enemies standing in different places in a maze doesn't matter when they all do the behave the exact same way with one or two attacks.

>Yes, the game demands that you constantly be aggressive
Nope

Show us the rest of that level, especially the area when you have to tightrope your way across a chasm where pain elementals and cacos are shooting fireballs at you.

>makes you play aggressively and think
>every single encounter has the same enemies with the same one shot weak spots to get them to flinch or change modes
>literally babby tier doom 1 shit with prioritizing which enemies to focus on like a fucking pokemon battle with type weaknesses
It's fucking trash. It's too easy and repetitive.

That level is a masterwork for speedrunning

What's straightforward is just walking from arena to arena shooting monsters until the game lets you walk to the next arena. Having to scour an intricate map with various paths in order to find the exit requires an ounce of brainmatter. You're making me speak as if DOOM 2016/Eternal are shit, which they aren't, but yes they are as braindead as it gets on that front.

Doom Eternal provides a constant stimulus, but that does not make it a "smart" game. If you want to play "smart" games that provide constant stimulus, play fighting games. Doom Eternal is just irritating.

Damn the backgrounds are beautiful.

There's a mode for people who can't aim and need to spam the chainsaw. It's called "I'm Too Young To Die". I beat the game on Nightmare and used the chainsaw less then 10 times.

"I don't suck at the game waaaaa". Okay, so you want to scrounge the level for ammo? You want infinite ammo? No? I think the chainsaw is a pretty good way of keeping the action going without having to stop everything and look for shit on the ground.

>list 2 niche mechanical advantages to the glory kill animation besides the health bonus
At what point did I say anything about liking it for the visual aspect

>The engine couldn't handle it if it was handled like classic DOOM.
Bullshit. Almost 30 years later, and you're telling me we can't have what we want because technological limitations? Fuck off.

It creates incentive to simultaneously spare and track trash enemies in the midst of battle and plan piece by piece on the spot exactly how to to dismantle a given mob most efficiently, explosive and SSG/Rail spam isn't the optimal strategy any more due to ammo concerns and the risk of collateral to trash (and therefore your ammo refills), this aspect of the design is expressed especially well in the slayer gates and master levels where you are absolutely overwhelmed by demons all the time and have to make hard decisions about seizing opportunities for huge collateral or letting them pass for ammo.

I understand if it feels a bit overwhelming and unfair at first but it'll become natural soon enough and once it clicks it's much more engaging than 2016's combat which is braindead in comparison.

More thinking = more fun

>"I don't suck at the game waaaaa
>cannot look for ammo and needs chainsaw for this

I guess that's where we differ, I don't find the key hunting and "scouring" of basic mazes fun or interesting at all. I prefer exciting gunplay and combat with enemies that can do more than zigzag towards me throwing slow fireballs.

Why does valid criticism equal 'filtered' with within the zoomer mind?

I would not have finished it if I wasn't trading off with a friend. Just won't finish this one, 'cause neither of us want to play it.

Mindless consoomerism and brand loyalty

Seems Eternal is the same deal as 2016 where you are relying on the same trinity of weapons, super shotgun, a sniper, and rockets. He sometimes pulls out the minigun to unload some ammo. There was never really a time that proves you need to use a specific tool to solve a problem, which sounds like something a developer would say. Also, he goes through each of those weapons like he's rolling across his keyboard instead of strategically. Just mash through that shit when it's back on cooldown.
