Doesn't it have like 84 party members or something? Fuck that shit. Anything that isn't a tactical RPG should not have any more than 10 party members at the absolute most.

i always knew about it but never bothered to try it. the only jrpgs that i like are the DQ games, should I bother trying it out?

I never write my backlog down so I forget the shit I want to play constantly. I'm playing through the ace attorney series right now but as soon as I'm done/get tired of it I'm playing that, thanks for reminding me.

108 characters. but you can only choose to take 6 with you. alot of them will open shops in your town and will add to your army in army battles.

>108
Christ almighty, its worse than I thought.

108 recruitable characters, not party members. A lot of them are none combatants, like shop keepers, smiths, chefs, gardners, librarians, strategists, generals, diplomats etc...

The number of combatants is still fairly large though, well over 50. I beat the game when I was 10, it requires 0 grinding. You get plenty of characters that are powerful from the get go (Luc, Pesmerga, Georg, Camus, Genghis) who can just carry you from the moment you recruit them. But, if you want to be autistic about it, you can always break the game by giving characters with 3 rune slots a double attack rune.

You can just not recruit them and just roll with the bare essentials the main story gives you. Don't know why having more choice is bad though.

It was just a blowjob.

Shit man, i've been meaning to play this for a month. I just don't have time to play anything anymore, let alone an rpg.

sucky sucky

>I just don't have time to play anything anymore

During quarantine?

It's fairly short by JRPG standards from that era, even for 100%. Under 30 hours easily if you take your time. Hell, you CAN'T 100% UNLESS you actually finish the game that fast, because there's a side quest that requires you to reach the end game under a certain time, forgot how long exactly, but it should be 20 or so hours.

>you need to recruit ten billion party members to get the good ending

>Good ending
>saving Jowy who literally killed billions

the chapter with the vampire is so fucking filler and really messes up the pacing

Gamedev. I never left the house anyway so quarantine means nothing to me.
Maybe I'll try to power through it sooner rather than later.

Jowy didn't do shit, millions were gonna be killed whether it was him or another shmuck that stumbled on the Black Sword rune. True runes are the source of all major conflicts in the Suikoverse. Not only are they sentient, but they manipulate destiny itself.

I've been aware for almost two decades user. I enjoyed V a lot. IV was such a shitshow but at least Tactics was fun.

50 combatants is still way too much. I hate having too many party members in an RPG, because I'm never going to bother with 90% of them, and if I happen to get stuck at some point, I'm not going to want to figure out which of the 50 chucklefucks I should be using instead, and I'll just end up grinding. I also feel like most of those characters are wasted space, when the game could be giving me new equipment or something as a reward instead of yet another two-dimensional party member with maybe 10 lines of dialogue who I'll never use.
Even just in gameplay, how the hell could they possibly differentiate 50 characters? There's got to be at least 30 duplicates just with different skins in there.

Or there's other cases like FFVI, where there's 14 party members, and the game just shuffles your party around after what feels like every story event. So instead of picking 4 people you like, you need to grind money and buy enough equipment to support everyone, and make sure no one gets neglected in levels. Or at least, that's the impression I had before dropping it like 7 hours in.

I just use it as a rule of thumb now, if it has more than 10 party members, I'm staying the fuck away.

Made for Big Hauser Dick

There has literally never been a cooler and comfier rpg system than recruiting the stars In the first two suikoden games and watching your castle grow throughout the game.

Suikoden plays nothing like other JRPGs, it's about the stories of said characters, and not the combat. There's no post combat hyper bosses, or hidden super powerful difficult content. You can finish the game with any party with very minimal switching, and the game has catch up exp mechanics for lower leveled party members. It's about assembling the 108 stars of destiny to change fate (classic Chinese shit look it up), not about gotta catch em all. You don't have to acknowledge their existence past their cute little side quest, unless you like the character and decide to bring them along. Plenty of them come in a group, like family, lovers, master/pupil, comrades in arm. Also, almost all of them only join you til the war is over, they're using you to achieve their own personal quest, as much as you are using them to achieve yours. Almost all the characters are very interesting with their own goals and dreams, and plenty serve a purpose other than simple party members.

Correct.
we do not speak of Tierkreis

quality posts

Oh, and there is no "true ending". All the endings are fulfilling in their own right, except one. There's an ending where you run away from your destiny, but you make your adopted sister happy, there's a bitter sweet ending, there's the "true ending", and there's the one arguably bad ending where you break an important promise by forgetting to fulfill it. All, but one require you to gather the 108, and you only need to gather the 108 to change a certain event that's of personal importance to the main character rather than the world.

Or rather only one requires the 108, my bad.

Suikoden has so many top tier waifus.

Yes, but how old is she though.

Eternal17, of course.

Do Asuka and Shinji show up in entries after 2? Tierkreis doesn't count.

I replayed 1, 2, 3 and 5 half a year ago after I got extremely nostalgic when playing Three Houses

I genuinely didn't like this game though

Tierkreis is the only one I’ve played. It was alright.

The real good ending is to leave Jowy to starve while you become the president of your empire

Gross man

>Letting Nanami die for your Jowy hate boner

Nanami was annoying as fuck. When she ''left'' it felt good not being babysitted with a forced useless filled slot.

bitch fakes her death anyway

That's what destiny gets changed to when you gather all stars. She actually dies otherwise for good. There's no other purpose for gathering all the stars since you can unite the rune of Beginning just by killing Jowy. The stars grant the protagonist his wish, which is saving his sister and Jowy, which is the only thing that getting all 108 changes. Even if you refuse to finish off Jowy after the duel, he dies all the same unless you get all 108.

If Nanami didn't want to watch Riou fight a war she should have stopped forcing herself into the party

Man, if III and V are worse than I than those must fucking suck. SI is such a boring game.

Tierkreis was better than the PS2 games.

Soul Eater best true rune, fite me.

Soul Eater kills everyone close to the bearer

Why?

This image... it smells of comfy.

I think I have Soul Eater on me considering how suffering my life is.
