why are fish spawns so fucked in this game, i run across my entire island and only a few spawn spawn

Shake trees from the front with your net out. Mash the shit out of A if you see a wasp nest fall out. It's a guaranteed catch.

Don't watch the bobber when fishing. Listen for the louder splash instead, even if you have to close your eyes to do so. The subtle difference in the visual is not usually enough to trigger a reflex, but the difference between a light bob and the loud splash are much easier for most everyone to discern.
Speaking of fishing, it's the biggest money maker, at least until Summer when more exotic bugs come around. Even then, fish on average sell for the most, especially ocean fish. Sadly many Sea Bass will be in your future, which don't sell for much.

Plant a bag of money.

Leave a few stumps after cutting trees, some bugs only appear on them.

Make a small "corner" of holes diagonally from a rock before hitting it. It'll keep you in place as you keep striking, allowing you to get all 8 potential drops. Don't readjust yourself, your character will keep striking the rock if it hits the first time.

Any other southern hem anons here? Has anyone been able to find a Giant Trevally or Mahi Mahi at the pier. I've been throwing bait for what feels like hours with nothing to show but sea bass and olive flounders.

Easiest way to fish so far is definitely to island hop. There's an island layout with a billion Sturgeons, one with a billion Stringfish, etc. The problem is the RNG in getting the island layout you need.

It feels like this game has the whole island spawn at once rather than acre by acre like older games so respawns are timed, rather than a distance thing. That or the devs really, really wanted to encourage catching random things or use fishing bait.

Might help if it's the actual source of the river. I had no luck on tier 2, but my rivers went all the way up to tier 3. A friend only had rivers from tier 2 sources so that worked for them. Can't be 100% on that though, but it does say "clifftop" so whatever is the top of the cliff should be the spot.
