what's your idea of good gameplay?
LISA rpg is good
Yes.
Ib
yes it's called unity engine
not really but there a few good puzzlers
Monster Girl Quest Paradox
game?
Yes, but EOPs don't get to play them.
I remember the Legion Saga series being pretty good.
Nobleman's Retort
In fact, any game by this circle is pretty gud.
Here's one. One of the few RPGs that actually makes combat fast and fun. You're not sitting there trading hits with trash mobs, only bosses and stronger enemies are reserved for 1v1 turn-based battles.
Difficult enough to not be a boring cakewalk where you mash the auto-fight button. But actual well designed difficulty, with enemies requiring different strategies to be figured out instead of being a grindfest.
>Classes/characters all different enough that you need to actually think who to bring for different areas or major boss fights
>Leveling up doesn't increase your power a lot, so the difficulty curve is more consistent rather than being a matter of how much you under/overlevel
>Unique gear choices that go beyond the usual bronze -> iron -> gold sword that only add a bit of attack linearly. Basically gear should have different unique effects that make you ponder what to equip at every situation, instead of just equipping whatever has the highest stat. Also has the side effect of finding new pieces of equipment much mor exciting as you don't know what they do.
>Skills/spells with actual unique, original uses, instead of the usual generic 8 single target spells for each element, 8 AoE ones, 2 buffs, 2 debuffs and a couple of status ailments you'll never use.
That's my ideal game, bonus if it's non-linear.
I actually think this sort of game is on the right track, but it's so poorly balanced and either it becomes a grind/RNG fest at higher difficulties, or a cakewalk at lower ones. There's a lot of variety, but the balance doesn't allow it to fully shine.
Depends a lot on what you consider "good gameplay". RPG Maker is an engine, so it can do a lot, and saying "good RPG Maker games" is like saying "good UE4 games".
If you want a pure JRPG experience, I'd agree with . If you want something that breaks the mold of what RPG Maker can do, or Your Turn to Die are good ones.
>tfw no good torrent of the latest version of rpgmakerMV
Lisa and Undertale
Looks like Hentai/fanservice garbage.
Still looking for actual games with good gameplay
>Still looking for actual games with good gameplay
You're not looking for RPG Maker games then.
unironically yes
NOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST INCLUDE A POINT AND CLICK ADVENTURE GAME
thanks
>I actually think this sort of game is on the right track, but it's so poorly balanced and either it becomes a grind/RNG fest at higher difficulties, or a cakewalk at lower ones.
I'd disagree with you here, my first playthrough was on Hard and the only time I had any problem was right at the beginning against the loli bandits and at the slug trio. Except neither case was a real issue, the game pretty much tells you "Have you tried using status effects? They work on bosses too you dumbo" when you do your evaluation against the bandits and yeah, once you start abusing stat effects, the game suddenly becomes much more manageable even on harder difficulties, and I never had to grind. As for the slug trio, yeah they are pretty bullshit but they are also optional so I just came back later.
I just want a good RPG. AAA games can't create them because they need games with mass appeal, which means extremely easy gameplay and non-engaging mechanics.
I'm sure someone with creativity and vision has created something I'd be interested on.
To The Moon was pretty good, as I understand it.
>the virgin RPG maker
>and not the Chad Wolf RPG
You could try One Way Heroics, but it's not actually made in RPG Maker.
What's the difference?
it's quite literally a movie game besides the shitty sliding puzzles that have nothing to do with anything
vestaria saga war of the scions part 1.
the sprites are rough but the art is nice
could you even name a non-indie jrpg with those criteria?
Aside from being different game engines, I have no idea.
Also got two sequels in Bird Story and Finding Paradise.
bird story is not a sequel and the gameplay fucking sucks.
also the holiday specials are max /comfy/
You mean non-indie as in AAA, or as in just some random guy doing a freeware game in his spare time?
Ditto for Cosmic Star Heroine, which I am surprised is a Unity Engine game. Genuinely thought that was a very well executed RPG Maker game.
Say what you will about its fans, but Undertale is an RPG Maker game and doesnt "feel" like so many of them do.
Play the last sovereign
>Undertale
>RPG Maker
a random guy doing a freeware game in his spare time falls under the umbrella of indie games imo. quetion still stands.
I just checked, it says Undertale is GameMaker Studio, not RPG Maker.
I mentioned it further up. "To The Moon" is pretty good on all accounts, even being described as "The Saddest Game I have ever played" in one review which does tempt me.
Princess Heart got OK reviews and has been featured in a few bundle packs through the years.
I would recommend that you just go back and play retro JRPGs. Have you tried the SaGa series? Romancing SaGa 2 is great, in particular.
Man... another one I had wrong. Not a lot of hope for RPG Maker it seems. Is it the reputation? Almost every element of the engine can be changed and expanded nowadays.
could have been mine
7th Stand User
I don't think so. Big companies can't really make an RPG with engaging combat because they know casuals don't care and just want a cakewalk that allows them to see the story regardless of how bad they are at the game. Even in the western industry, only indie companies like Larian studios can actually make a game with actually good, challenging combat.
The game that I've seen that comes closest to the criteria would be FF6 Brave New World, which is just a mod/romhack that some guy did to fix the horrible gameplay in the vanilla game.
Does any user remember that RPG maker game where you're a dude collecting ATK ups and fighting monstergirls. It was more like a puzzle game cause you could always see if you were going to win a fight or not, and was more about picking the right path to get ATK ups and recover life. You also fucked the monster girls if that helps.
Retro JRPGs are kinda bad in this regard, specially the most popular ones such as FF or DQ, they're still AAA games in the end. I can try SaGa to see if it's any different, though.
This is the correct answer right here.
A sad game about office work? Considering I'm like 7-8 weeks out from getting my MBA, I'm interested but fearful.
Lulu Farea. Kinda fun gameplay, but it's basically a lot of trial and error if you want to actually finish the game on hard mode.
based
Sacred Tears TRUE and Ara Fell.
Well, as it turns out, he has a home life too.
This nigga would disgrace hero by putting fucking gohan in his clothes.
>tfw can't discuss RPG maker games because it's associated with porn
fucking suffering. back in the 90s there were bunch of non-rpg makers i would play like some shitty pokemon knockoffs. can't nostalgia with other people if the first thing come to mind is hentai.
Was Cthulhu saves the world made on RPG maker or Game maker? It had surprisingly good gameplay despite the aesthetics being dumb.
Man, I remember playing some game where you fight evil pokemon with swords and guns and shit, and there were crazy anime battle cutscenes with edits of megaman zero sprites. RPG maker games are soul as fuck.
Zeboyd made his own engine for his games.

>multiple playable characters with different skills
>enemies have individually targetable limbs with different abilities tied to each
>magic that can actually be used outside of combat to interact with stuff and to access new areas
>sanity and hunger meters
>can lose limbs yourself, if you jump down every deep hole you see without a rope you run the risk of breaking both your legs and crawling everywhere, losing arms can result in you no longer being able to hold weapons
>game is made to be replayed and an experienced player can finish it in around 2 hours if the RNG doesn't fuck him over too much
Thanks bruv
