Yea or nay?
Bloom in games
Other urls found in this thread:
yeah, it makes shit look cool
depends how it's implemented! idiot!
every stupid effect is acceptable when done right
god it's like asking "how do you feel about the color blue"
i cant name one good game with bloom desu
>chromatic abberation? On
>SSR? On
>Motion Blur? On
>TAA? On
>*cracks knuckles*
>yep it's gamer time
Chromatic aberration is the devil. The only games where it makes sense is Alien Isolation and SOMA. The former is trying to emulate the look of an old film, while in the latter your head is a literal fucking camera. Beyond that it's UNACCEPTABLE!!!
Do you think snoys would actually play with these settings off if given the choice? Their eyes would probably melt if they saw a game with a clear picture.
Why the hate for motion blur?
Not really since we have actual HDR now.
Why color grade the scene when the image beforehand looks perfectly fine? It's not even a cooler environment so it makes sense to keep the color tone warm.
SSR is important until full raytracing
TAA is great if you're ID
Motion blur at slight levels is perfectly acceptable and required for natural movement
>he doesn't want everything to look A E S T H E T I C
Why does every single game look like bluish lifeless shit? Every single fucking game. It's not even funny. They all look like washed out shit filmed inside the SAW toilet.
What's the issue with screen space reflection?
i always turn bloom off, I think it looks shitty 100% of the time but I might be biased.
>step 15
stop there.
This
Chromtic abberation is fine, personally. The issue is when there is no option to disable it.
motion blur only works for garrys mod.
So Battlefield 3 is actually set in the matrix?
If you have good frame rate, motion blur basically smears your screen for no good reason. its really disgusting.
what game is that
i turn bloom off too. maybe it has gotten better in recent years, but too often bloom translates into
>BURN OUT YOUR RETINAS WITH THE POWER OF ALL THE STARS IN THE SKY
Color grading is the fucking devil.
With a bad framerate, you have a stuttering blurry slideshow. Motion blur did never help anyone.
If it is done tastefully it's fine. Blanket glares on everything, which is the most common, is awful though.
ITS CINEMATIC BRO!!!!!!
The worst shit is when people add shitty ENBs to normally fine looking games and make it blindingly bright and overly saturated.
It's almost exclusively used to poorly disguise bad framerate.
Space Engine Ears.
what am i missing here? is the after after it was turned off because on the right i can actually see shit. the left looks like it was filtered through a used diaper.
Nay as it makes everything glow in the dark like it was dipped into some radioactive waste.
performance
left is the original game, right is without the yellow filter.
This
>actually spells "yea" correctly
Based.
the only thing i remember syndicate for was how absurd the bloom was
>TAA is great if you're ID
TAA made Doom 2016 look like a blurry mess. I don't know about Eternal as I haven't played it but TAA will always do MASSIVE damage to image quality because of how it works. Devs try to hide it with sharpening filters which do more damage to the image but tricks some into not noticing the blur.
nope
the first thing to do before playing a game is to turn post processing effects off, bloom off, motion blur off, chromatic aberration off
Shit my screen up sempai.
Yeah, yea and yeah are different words.
add depth of field = off as well
The right was how it looked in the Director's Cut.
original is better, piss filter belongs in HR. Directors cut is soulless and cringe
worse version of the game, based on an older build
>hating on someone's artistic vision
plebs
I wasn't hating, I love the matrix
dice should clearly do the next matrix game
>add light so they can't see how ugly this looks
Scum
I don't know why every photographer, real artist, and filmmaker spends his day laughing about how vidya looks. In 90% of cases, it looks like an edgy 12-year old put sliders to max until it looked like epic awesome shit.
>turn post processing effects off
I like SSAO but i turn off the rest
To add to this list is v-sync, depth of field, film grain and lens flares.
Because you're playing on a PS4
Battlefield 3 made that choice to look fucking awfully ugly on purpose. The game is straight fucking depressive to look at
>doesn't spend
I'm on PC and every game looks like shit. Literally made by people who get shit on by every amateur photographer.
Piss filters do not belong anywhere.
They belong in HR, the game is naked without it
Ambient Occlusion is a good thing, it emulates the shadows objects should have close to the ground, it ain't a post processing effect like motion blur, depth of field and so on that just smear vaseline and other trash all over the screen
>film grain
WHY DOES THIS SHIT EXIST!? holy fuck why is this in any game?
Fuck this takes me back. Remember how Dice were being likes and banned anyone who turned the awful blue filter off because it gave an "unfair advantage"?
Oversaturated bloom looks appropriate in space
>by every amateur photographer
Friendo, amateur photographers started this shit. The extreme color grading, promoting lens artifacts and buying lenses specifically for "bokeh", buying lenses for their shitty CA, etc. all to get a look they could call their own predates this visual damage occurring in vidya. When vidya started bringing in non-tech people, these are the people that got hired, and they continued shitting things up in their new role.
it is pretty apparent that the game's textures, lighting, particle effects and even the character models were all made with the piss filter in mind
>sucide 100%
I want no part of your piss fetish.
Some games bundle SSAO with other things under one option in the menu. This is why i excluded it from the rest of garbage.
I tried to play Hellblade senua's sacrifice and you can't disable motion blur from the menu. So i had to dig inside config file and add a few lines, then it was playable. Imagine playing on cucksole and having both shit framerate plus motion blur on top. Haven't finished the game because it's boring as fuck, has great audio though.
>hurrr i make everything gray, such artisticism
This would be cool if game allowed you to pick tint of the goggles your solder uses.
Yeah but it looks fine on Eternal in 1440p and seeing no aliasing or any sort of pixel crawling is really impressive. Still need sharpening though but unlike in 2016 the sharpen is actually good too
The beta was far easier to see targets. The entire point of the game is to shoot people.
Maybe I only know good amateur photographers, but everything in muh realistic vidya is so laughably wrong even without this shit. You only have to open your eyes while you are outside go home and play the game you thought looked great. It looks like absolute dogshit and it doesn't be to have this way. You can fix like 70% of it with reshade.
Simply everything is wrong. Saturation, contrast, light intensity. Every fucking thing. Mostly its washed out and has a blue filter. The colors look like you just turned up the brightness to some ridiculous value. I dunno man fuck this shit. It makes me angry because it is so easy to fix and doesn't change performance in a negative way.
that's why so many shooters are brown and gray. it's easier to see things move when everything is a similar color. if things were colorful, you'd be distracted.
If it needs sharpening it destroyed the image quality. All that data is gone, the sharpening just tricks your brain into thinking it isn't.
No faggot. You see blue people on a blue background sitting in dark fucking corners. Left would be far better to see enemies.
no, its shit
