GTA stories may all be homages to famous films but this is still the best cast of characters in any game ever

GTA 4 has the best cast in my opinion. Every character is fucking great, with a small drop off in the ending. But every friend is great, your dates are fun, and quest givers are all fantastic.

Micheal and Lamar were great in different ways. The people Micheal had as contacts were also great. His family. The government spooks. Franklin was boring and Trevor was cringe.

Woozie was great too. So was Fonda's hippie dude.

In terms of characters IV > San Andreas > RDR II > RDR > V > Vice City > III

I understand why people like niko, but the rest of the cast is sub par. Not too many memorable quotes from IV.

If anything I would say Luis and gay Tony are better than everyone in 4 except Niko. Same with tlad cast. 4s characters and it's story are two very different things, the cast sucks, but the story is great.

The problem with IV is that it cycles through its characters too fast
Basically the entire game can be summarized as
>drive here
>shoot guys in grey/brown warehouse/abandoned building
>drive back
>repeat 3x then have the boss be replaced with a new boss and start over
Vice City and San Andreas had a villain introduced from the start. Tenpenny and Sonny. IV had the main antagonist be who? A guy you did a couple jobs for way back at the very start of the game?

The expansions were much better with their stories and missions.

Only issue I have is the game is built to run at 25fps

it's meant to run at 30 but rockstar fucked up the frame limiter. silentpatch fixes it.

Exactly, and the shooting hasn't aged well. Physics are the only thing going for it, its a sandbox tech demo.

the fuck? the characters in IV were amazing. the mcrearys all felt distinct, and then you had roman, dwayne, playboy x, brucie. best cast of characters rockstar has ever had and they all feel developed with a lot of backstory and things to say about themselves. i loved hanging out with them and seeing their discussions

But you are right, it was attempted and they could barely fit Los Santos on it. Clearly SAS was planned, but the timing wasn't right.

The writing in III and VC was incredibly shallow compared to everything they did after

Everything they've done is shallow, up to and including RDR2. VC was at least funny.

IV was pretty unshallow. All the characters had developed backstories they'd tell you about it if you went drinking with them. And SA made me laugh way more than VC.
