Half Life sequel highly anticipated for over 10 years

>Half Life sequel highly anticipated for over 10 years
>Releases and is barely able to even get more players than yearly release series and indieshit
>Metacritic score is in the low 90's DESPITE Valve paying for high review scores
What went so wrong?

Jesus lol

poorfag cope thread

why does Yas Forums want to hate this game so badly?

see

Considering the hefty investment in hardware needed to play and run the game, I'd say those numbers are actually pretty good. For anyone who didnt' already have a VR headset, that's basically like a $1260 game that Valve are selling.

Personally I would hope that they maybe consider releasing a non-VR version some time down the line but I wouldn't hold my breath.

because ever since ToRtanic Yas Forums has been obsessed with finding the next big flop and anything that you can post alongside the caption "OH NO NO NO" will be posted.

valve after shartifact

A mixture of TORtanic shitposters and the fact it's a new HL they can't play because VR only. Still that's not good numbers for what is the return of HL.

Because I expected a half decent fucking game, not time travel fuckery and this boring, unfun garbage.

the absolute state of valve
this garbage is shartifact v2

Cringe, I've been posting here for 5 years and I've never heard people bring up tortanic in an effort to defend a flop until the Half life: alyx release. Get a grip

>and I've never heard people bring up tortanic in an effort to defend a flop until the Half life: alyx release
All those words when you could have just wrote "I'm new here" just amazing.

for a VR only title that isn't bad at all. you'd have to be a complete retard to think those numbers are bad for a game that requires specific expensive hardware.

42k people bought $1000 worth of hardware
do the calculation

>Currently the most popular VR game according to player count
what are you even trying to say?

desu you can get a windows mixed reality headset for 200€ and play any vr game with it.

index is literally like not even the most popular vr device and no you dont make a lot of cash with hardware (especially expensive vr tech)

You didn't even play the game, shithead.

>42k players for a 1k game
Is this supposed to be bad or something?

not really it just killed the half life ip

It was already dead since HL2 EP2 and the HL3 story leak
Who cares?

>wtf this vr only games that requires hundreds of dollars of extra hardware doesn't have as many people playing it as cheap and easy to run games built for casuals!
I think valve games are fucking dogshit, but you serious? Retard.

It is literally fucking morning in the states

>you dont make a lot of cash with hardware
lmao

Well someone hasn't seen "You suck crabbing boat" have they? You could have just admitted you were new here.

chink shill farms must be up and running again

I've been with the series since I was 10, eat shit and die, poor fag zoomer.

I thought that this game was supposed to be the savior of VR gaming. Is this really the best VR can do? LMFAO! VR is going to die out like the fad it is. Just like 3D TVs. Imagine having wasted money on a VR set only to have it collect dust forever now loooool.

Eat shit VaIvedrone.

Here are your user reviews bro!

Attached: Some nice collection of Alyx reviews.png (2662x1622, 719.05K)

yeah valve is flooding the board with steam chinks right now

People are repulsed, disappointed and pissed because it's 13+ years too late and storywise it's irredeemable fanficiton garbage
>NOOOOO NOT MY HECKIN ELI VANCEINO NOT MY NIGGERINO BROSEPHINO!!!
And then by courtesy of Campo Santo's terrific Naruto-tier fanfiction writing abilities Valve pulled the biggest asspull of the last two decades: retconing the events of HL2 and the episodes, the entire franchise even.

With this amateur hackshit turd pull they rendered EVERYTHING Gordon Freeman ever did since Half-Life 1 and EVERYTHING that has ever occured in the Half-Life universe completely moot.
None of what happened or is going to happen matters, because LOL DIFFERENT TIMELINES BRO! DON'T WORRY JUST JUMP TO ANOTHER ONE BRO!
Once you go time travel/different timelies you essentially go full retard and never recover from it.

Everyone watched the ending/BIG TWEEEEST on Youtube by now. Everyone agrees that the Half-Life saga ended with Marc Laidlaw's Epistle 3. Everyone already moved on.

Its not playable outside of VR.
You kinda have to have a good VR set to enjoy it and those are expensive.
So the install base is small.

/Thread

Still infinitely more trustworthy than Steam "reviews".

Considering it needs an overpriced doorstop to play those numbers are surprisingly high

You should include all the 10s from before the game was even released.

Why do you keep making this thread even though you were told, repeatedly, that it's because it's a VR exclusive and the vast majority of Steam users don't even have a VR capable computer, let alone a headset? Is it because you're so autistic that you can't come up with anything original, so you just have to keep making the same threads over and over again in order to get attention that you so desperately desire because you're not allowed to leave the house and go see your friends at school due to the quarantine?

Future of gaming? As if.

Yeah, time travel/multiple timelines is just lazy writing when executed poorly. I've yet to see a game (or any media for that matter) with time travel shenanigans that make sense.

How in your right mind do you believe that this game is doing anything but terrible?
Imagine this title being from EA or Ubisoft. It would be their worst selling title in decades.
In the end im sure valve knew that this isnt going to be a good seller. They probably wanted to sell their VR setup. The game is merely a tech demo.
If HL3 happens, im sure it will include both m+kb and vr.

It’s not as if (breengrub) there was some huge repository (breengrub) of great hint-based (breengrub) HL2 backstory written by the series’ original author (breengrub) that provided just enough clues for someone to figure out the deeper mysteries (breengrub) without damaging the current (breengrub) storyline.

Half Life Alex isn't really even part 3, as that would imply that it was a sequel to part two. Since it's a prequel to one of the other games, it is in fact part 1.5. Further proof is the fact that Valve named it Half Life: Alyx, not Half Life: Part 3. So while you did get another Half Life game, you still haven't got Half Life 3.

I think making a half life game exclusively for VR is a total slap in the face to the fans of the series that have kept it popular after so many years.

"Amazing VR game" is just being the best at the retard olympics. A market that is remarkably devoid of good games, people are desperate for any scraps.

COPE poorfag, VRChads are enjoying this 10/10

How do you not understand that these numbers are packing a punch with other AAA games despite LESS than 5% of steam users having a VR headset? The valve index sold out immediately too. This is like the most perfect scenario they could hope for.

It literally only has 40k owners though.

poorfag and consolecuck cope

No that's wrong. It has 40k people in-game at the same time. It has sold about 400k copies last time I checked.

If I'd spent $1000 for one game, I'd force myself to enjoy it too.

It wouldn't be good without VR. They throw like 3-4 enemies at you at a time, it wouldn't even be a challenge to click on them and you'd miss out on all the cool environmental interaction and scenery. The Jeff stage definitely wouldn't have the same effect it did, everyone shit their pants.

>he believes Valve's meme about it somehow selling 400k copies

Thats the thing you retard. Literally all those vr owner bought the game

>chink shill farms must be up and running again
it's actually shill farm 101 to flood messages accusing your target as being paid opposition. no idea if either valve or epic hires these firms. just something to consider for anyone who thinks there is paid activity taking place.

I miss the days when paid promotion/opposition didn't know what the fuck they were doing. the tells are more complicated than they used to be.

This. Steam loves inflating their numbers on everything, whether that's number of players in a game, or copies sold of a game from their store.

Is this the sequel to the highly anticipated Dota card game Artifact? Looks like it's dropping players faster than the original game.

>The most popular dead game
Impressive.

You're calling me a retard while probing your own numbers wrong? If all of them bought it, then of course it's way more than 40k

Sweaty and fat bastards with poor health.

Attached: sweet_grapes.jpg (1920x1024, 775.65K)

Because they don't like the fact that they have to stand up and move their arms.

$42,000 is actually not that much money.

Is this ironic

i make more in a year.

VR is a long dead gimmick, what's next, half life movie for 3D tvs?

Valve has sold over 100,000 valve index units, which comes with half life alyx. The valve index sales ALONE makes 1/4 of the copies sold. Why is it so hard for you to believe that the rest of the entire market would add up to 400,000?

Re-do the math you fucking retard
