why was it so goddamn fun to explore?
Why was it so goddamn fun to explore?
cause the combat and movement was fun
it sure as fuck wasn't because the story or world was interesting
You were younger.
Finally someone else that likes that map. Travelling to far away places, even though the actual distance isn't that big, feels like travelling. Every playthrough I'm looking forward to going to the Bluemoon Tower or that south-eastern corner.
I think also the fact that the distances seemed so great that you'd have to really consider the journey you were about to embark on and prepare properly.
In the possible DD2, I really wish for more travelling mechanics.
like what?
portcrystals/eternal ferrystone kinda ruined it
how could they improve on the issue of just carrying one with you at all times?
Camping, more ways to forage the countryside to find health items, like fishing mechanics every game needs a fishing mini-game Also the game needs rain and more weather effects.
Oh God yes.
Also comfy camp-site cooking (like an actually GOOD outward, or like botw) for both overland travel and dungeon crawling.
If they added that sort of preparatory/recovery stuff, as well as co op with two mates (they control their pawn in your world) I'd come so hard I'd become a new star.
agreed. arisen in canon is a fisherman and the countryside is littered with campsites so I've always wondered where these features were myself. I'm certain they would have been there if the game had more money and time put into it.
It was the first time. After that you see how poorly designed the main story is as far as actual adventuring goes. Almost the entire story takes place in the stretch between Cassardis and Gran Soren, and if you did the minimal amount of stuff possible, you could miss out on over half the areas in the game.
Why is it that the lower left of Gransys is almost empty? As if you didn't go there, you aren't missing anything important at all. The only saving grace of that place is exploration and good scenery.
You forgot getting rid of the goblins in the fortress.
It was originally meant to be a lot bigger, with another big town which ended up being the bandit camp instead. There's only one possible sidequest that isn't an escort that takes place in that area at all, and it's some random fetch quest for a magic tome that takes you to the bandit camp.
It's optional if you only do two of the Wyrm Hunt License quests. If you do the one where you need the Dragonforged to translate the tablet and the Watergod's Altar one, you never have to go into the Southeast portion of the map whatsoever.
Fill world 2ith meaningful content
It's optional but so are the other ones. Pretty sure most people do all of them and you always have to do some, so leaving them out entirely is a bit dishonest.
what roads should i take to go to gran soren?
playing it right now and it fucking just is
haven't spoken to the duke yet but i've checked the majority of the map already
That Seneschal fetch quest is too fucking stupid.
"Oh wow Arisen, you slew the dragon! Here, go and collect more of these dumb looking rock to meet the maker :-)".
And then that guy fucking shows up at the griffin fight with "Don't worry! I'll help with the power of the special magic book that you definitely didn't give me a forgery of- wait why isn't it working". Shit was so funny.
> every game needs a fishing mini-game
mini games are a blight, especially on games that like to fashion themselves as RPGs, that only serves to divert attention from the actual game, which in turn would be an admission of at best mediocrity.
a good game does not need or want players to play a simplistic tiny timewaster instead.
Probably because of enemy placements.
Senechal as an idea is stupid.
>dude, it was all a test
Depending on hwo strong you areand how many wakestones you have at this point, it might be 1-3 hours between finding out about him and fighting him. Really great idea.
He can be put in any other game and would work just the same. Shitty, that is.
How big is the world in DDO?
It's meant to show how little you can actually explore to finish the main quest. Even with most of the optional content, you're basically only going into an area once to find an item or kill something. Especially places like Soulflayer Canyon or the Shadow Fort. Bluemoon Tower, The Greatwall, and the Witchwood would be the same, but you have to go through the former two twice in the story and if you do Selene's whole questline you go back to the Witchwood like three times.
Landmarking and excellent movement/combat mechanics. But mostly landmarking, which something like The Witcher was fucking terrible at.
Not much larger, and it has a very similar design where it's mostly just corridor's to an empty open area. Except since it's an MMO where you have to go through those areas many more times.
The point is to test your will and resolve.
This is what powers the Senechal and as time passes, his own will fades and he needs to be replaced. It's pretty obvious it ain't a very fulfilling existence for them and they welcome the embrace. But, whoever replace them, must have the will strength to support all that entails being a Senechal.
>Soulflayer Canyon
Soulflayer Cave looks interesting when I stumble upon there randomly during my exploration and then... I found out that there's nothing there at all.
how the fuck do I survive BBI at lvl 1 enough to start to actually have fun, I don't want to play the campaign again
You don't? Try hiring pawns that cost millions. But hiring strong pawns can only take you so far.
Does the MMO follows the end of DD?
I liked how dark the nights got. Lighting the path infront of you with spells like that firewall and magic flare was cool.
I don't know. I played it for about four hours and it felt really janky. It seems to be it's own story that's kinda shit.
It wasn't. Empty as fuck, very little hidden here and there save for the dragons that took forever to respawn.
That's why Dark Arisen was so great. It just took the Everfalls and essentially made it the entire game, without you having to wait for things to respawn.
Friendly reminder that you don't waifu your own pawn.
You can't tell me what to not do, i'm gonna waifu my pawn and nothing wrong will happen to us.
make me pal
it gets a cockatrice later and a one time gorecyclopes so that's pretty cool i guess
it wasn't
>do the early game up until you sleep to fight the Hydra
>go back to Cassardis and warp to BBI
>run past everything until you get to Duskmoon Tower
>use the barrels to clip through the door containing the Ring of Discipline
>from there you have two options
>Option A: Buy as many Throwblasts as you can from Aestella in Cassardis, you can also grab around 20 from the first rest stop
>buy a Martyr's Talisman from Barroch
>fight Gazer, you can do the entire fight with only throwblasts at as low of a level you can get into BBI with
>takes a couple tries but boosts you to level 50ish
>Option B: Continue the story through Gran Soren instead when you start, and complete the quest for Fournival with the tenants
>buy the Maker's Finger and return to BBI
>clip through the door with Dragon's Ire like you did with the Ring of Discipline
>use Rotten Bait Meat up top by where all the snakes are to spawn a Cursed Dragon
>pop Martyr's Talisman like with Gazer
>look down without him noticing and shoot the Maker's Finger
>level 40ish with dragonforged equipment
Also, it should be noted that it is possible to use the Throwblast method for Dark Bishop as well, but it's a bit more annoying.
Thanksies
I waifu my Arisen. My pawn is more like her deathprone younger sister.
>Strength in numbers Arisen
>Even in numbers a weakling is a weakling still
Is Seneschal the penultimate authority being? It felt like that position is a very cucked version of wagie in a cagie. I mean the moment you become one, it literally feels underwhelming and you can't even do godly shit, all you do is sit on a throne in the rift and then visit towns as an invisible creep that can peep.
>make a fighter pawn
>he just spams shield drum and sits under perfect defense all day
Which shield skills do pawns actually use properly?
WALKING BONES THAT MOVE ON THEIR OWN
SoAkeD t0 the BONES
launchboard my nigga
Because you actually had to walk everywhere. That made the small map feel huge. The dlc completely ruined the game by letting you teleport, that was a huge mistake
>I found out that there's nothing there at all
It has some of the best loot pre-post game.
Also where is the joy of exploration for explorations sake?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with waifuing your pawn. Ashe's situation was way more complicated than that.
Is utilitarian the main inclination?
who knows. there are ruins of other god's temples, like watergod altar and bluemoon tower. maybe those gods left. maybe they're dead and the original seneschal killed them and started the cycle because he only had respect for godkilling badasses and wanted one to kill him and take his place. sequel when?
JUST GIVE ME DRAGON'S DOGMA 2 PLEASE
No I think it was scather, should it be utilitarian?
Scather should be what you want for a fighter pawn. Honestly I can't really tell, maybe take those skills away and observe how he acts without them, though those are useful skills, for a pawn as well.
Because i put on LotR and Willow soundtracks before gathering my party and venturing forth.
A shame the portcrystals ruin it. Seems shit at first but looking back, the long travels you had to plan out and take on were fun. Should really do a no fast travel playthrough.
You can substitute Martyr's Talisman for Blessed Flower
there's only 5 and they are spread across the entire map. best fast travel system of any game I've ever played imo
no or limited level scaling
limited fast travel
no copy pasted locations
lots of different enemies in the overworld
