Lemme start, game plays well, game looks fucking great, menus and everything are so god damn streamlined nicely.
But jesus fucking christ can I get some fucking ammo here? How the fuck is ammo more abundant 5 years AFTER this game, then before? Not having enough ammo quite literally soft locks the game since you can't melee enemies for some ungodly reason. I've been soft locked so many times in some of these levels it's not even fucking funny.
Also can Alyx please for the love of god shut the fuck up? She's too fucking talkative, why in gods name does telling Russel basic information need 6 lines of dialogue before they shut the fuck up?

My only gripe is that I want a non-VR option.
I feel like it has a lot of impact with the storyline and lore particularly surrounding the Gman and I don't like being left out because I don't want to drop $500 on a goddamn VR headset.

I'm glad that VR people got a good game, but I want a non-VR version to play.

I noticed that Hit and Run only has 0.1% unlocks, is it glitched or something?
I thought getting captured by combine and Russel breaking you out were mandatory things at the end of prologue.

i agree mostly but HLA takes it to a new level. it's like they're stuck on journalist mode, idk if you own the game or not but if you don't try to find someone playing. i can literally just walk to the side and they'll shoot/lunge/attack where I was a full second or two ago, it's insanely bad.

like every half-life game before it, it adds a ton of shit and a fuckton of retcons all at the same time.

Rift-S fag here, I pretty much never notice SDE at all. I think the only time was when I was watching anime in bigscreen. On the other hand the onboard audio is hilariously shit but I just use headphones so that doesn't matter much

Ok here we go, two birds one stone. Massive spoilers ahead.

So at the end, Alyx gets offered a chance to save her father in the future by Gman, she's not there in the actual event but she manages to kill the advisor with Gman's spacetime fuckshittery that was going to kill Eli. However, by doing this she vanishes from the reality where he was meant to die. (HL2:EP2) Eli KNOWS that it's their "mutual friend" who did it, and the game ends with him, and more importantly dog shows up, and gives gordon his crowbar. - Now all of this considered, if this is a TIME issue, then we shouldn't have met Alyx in HL2 at all, and she should have been gone as by law of time, if she was snatched in the past before future events happen, then those future events wouldn't come to pass where she was involved. So the fact she disappears means there could only be 1 alyx in that timeline. HOWEVER if it ISN'T timefuckery, then this is multiverse fuckery, which makes very, very big implications. Not to forget the story elements regarding Gman being imprisoned by the Combine, and how that plays in regarding Half life 2, and why he seems to defend the combine's assault on earth while he's being imprisoned by them AND supporting gordon to fuck them on multiple occasions.
I honestly am starting to think that Gman is Gordon who manages to find time jumping technology on the Borealis, and he defends himself repeatedly so he can effectively be a god of sorts. It explains why he protects gordon but doesn't really care about anyone else.

the CV1 has to be the worst headset i've ever used, and even that one gets praise all the time

Source has always been an optimized engine but Valve literally pulled some insane magic tricks with Source 2 to make this game run as well as it does while looking as good as it does.

Time travel DOES NOT WORK LIKE HOW YOU INSTINCTIVELY THINK IT DOES. Every single movie you've seen has been WRONG. Changing the past does NOT change your future, nor visa versa.

When Gman brought Alyx forward through time, it did NOT invalidate all the actions she did with Gordon in HL2, Episode 1 and Episode 2. What happened was her potential reality merged with her actuality in the warehouse. Gman brought her CONSCIOUSNESS forward and gave her force lightning shit to kill the Advisor, then he abducted her.

HER ACTIONS IN THE PREVIOUS GAMES WERE NOT ERASED FROM THIS, because they HAD to have taken place for the warehouse scene to even happen.

No user, I mean... if you didn't notice: when Gman reverses time to where eli is in the advisors hands, alyx runs backwards to where she should be but she then just fades away.

im not saaying it isn't my dude, it's that most of the time the peeps that say the game runs "well" on their PC's they have low console user standards and anything above 30fps looks fluid to them.

Unironically the first game to make me feel sick after an extended period of time. Although I think thats from being dehydrated over the game itself.
Also the first VR game to make me feel like I was actually immersed in the world.

Just finished playing for 5-6 hours. Easily the best VR game so far and just a very good game in general.
I don't think I actually have any major gripes so far. Maybe that it's too linear? I'm a little worried that I'll finish it too quickly because I don't use my VR rig often, and it'd be nice if there was a good amount of replay value so I could justify the absurd amount of money I spent on my headset + graphics card.

Really enjoying playing it. The shotgun grunts are INTIMIDATING. Having one saunter around the corner unexpectedly produces a surprisingly strong flight or fight reaction.

Personally I am a poorfag and not even hiding it, but very interested in VR stuff.
Gameplay looks like I expected but what got me really sceptical is:

>how objects are limited interaction wise, so no opening bottles, ripping paper apart, breaking pencils or opening a package
>this webm, which shows no way to directly interact with enemies, either by hands or objects
Basically, pretty good for a VR game but Boneworks remains king for now.

The most I've gotten is a tiny bit startled by loud noises within in the beginning in the city. After that I haven't had been startled or scared at all.

Despite the braindead AI, the second half of the game by far blows the fuck out of Boneworks.

boneworks has more interactivity but the immersion in alyx is on another level thanks to valve budget vs indiefags

I love VR but I must admit that's a little janky. Even the physics playground sidequest tech demo lets you bully the dummies by knocking them down and whacking them with magazines.

Boneworks is fun to fuck around in, but the graphics and presentation in Alyx are top notch and blow Boneworks out of the water. Also I like the pistol in Alyx a lot more then the guns in boneworks honestly.

boneworks is not a game, most VR ""games"" are not games any more than a mobile app is.

Say what you want about Valve's hyperautistic playtesting but the gravity gloves are some of the most astonishingly intuitive mechanics a game has ever had let alone a VR game. Like fuck it's so second nature that when you're done with say a 3 hour session, you sort of miss the fact that you can't just grab objects with the flick of a wrist.

Boneworks is a genuinely terrible game.

Just encountered combine soldiers again after the headcrab tunnels. I'm probably going slower than average, but the game is so damn immersive that I just want to take it all in.
