Western, probably. Any form of Japanese porn with audio is garbage. Also, japanese erotic games are not actually video games, they are visual novels with pornographic elements. Western erotic games are closer to cracking the formula for fitting pornography within the context of video games as an interactive medium. You missed the point I was trying to make about blending video games as interaction design with porn. None of Alicesoft's games require porn to function as video games. The porn is consumed in the same exact text/cg format that every other japanese eroge is made. Free Cities, again, blends those two elements, but it's a text based game so it doesn't have gameplay in the way you're assigning value.
If you're happy having your porn packaged alongside a strategy game (or turnbased jrpg), cool. All I'm saying is there aren't many japanese games that try to blend the two, consuming porn in a new context basically like I mentioned before. Artifical Academy is a good example of one that breaks that eroge mold.

Don't think so. At least people who write them seem to have some experience. I've played so many western games where I legit wondered how the writer even functions as a normal person if they think that their awful fanfiction dialogue passes as human interaction.
I'm not saying that the writing needs to be realistic or whatever. These games are meant to be fantasies and I don't care if a bunch of busty women wanting to be part of the MC's harem is not realistic. However the writing should at the very least complement the gameplay and visuals, and not be extremely cringey dialogue fueled by terrible grammar and not a single typo-free sentence.
