For fucking real. I wish Sonic Team still had that ambition, even if it was also the reason a lot of their games have been shit. Only the soundtrack managed to come out unscathed.

It could have been a proper Adventure 3 and this series wouldn't be the tired joke it is now, nearly fourteen years later.

>something fucked up happens halfway through level
>suddenly the level's music turns into an edgier reprisal of its normal self

youtube.com/watch?v=RyoMQg3d5cs

sonic 3 was kino and s3k was double-kino

I'm glad A.I.R. lets you fight Big Arms as Sonic and Tails while still having & Knuckles "locked on". I think S3 Complete does it as well, although it's been a while.

Entirely subjective of course, and doesn't have an impact whatsoever (and further hampered by the boss being so ridiculously easy) but I wanna throw this in as my favorite version of Big Arm.
youtube.com/watch?v=MVQjrIcwyEg

is a bit dissapointing desu
i prefer an original music for each one

based, it's basically the definitive version of the song
GaMetal's cover is pretty great too and so is ToxicxEternity's

GaMetal does wonders for pretty much every song he covers. Hell, I'm listening to exactly that now since I saw it in recommended.

It's honestly hard for me to pick, it seems like there's not really a BAD version of it. It's legitimately my favorite Sonic track, and it's from a series with tons of great OSTs.

youtube.com/watch?v=FL9dBLR2huo
look i know is cool to shit on this game right now but i really like the music and it really compliments the gameplay

youtube.com/watch?v=NhQILQgkClo

The best thing that Golden did was make ROFTT play only when you get the advantage in battle. When that theme reappears at the end (triggered when you get the final boss to ~10% health IIRC) it triggers this Pavlovian reflex that's been building the whole game, associating that song with the feeling of success and victory in battle.

>sonic
>good music
yea thats finna be a yikes from me

Shit or not, Mick Gordon does great work. He also did the music for the Killer Instinct reboot. Yas Forums just like to shit on whatever's new, give the hivemind some time to chill out. They hated 2016 at launch, too.

Would you call P4's OST underrated? It feels like people talk about 3 and 5's more to me. Though whenever Persona discussion seems to come up it is 99% shitposting, so maybe that's skewed my perception.

It's good stuff, though. I wish the Vita didn't get shit on so bad.

stop watching shounenshit

>a teenager who's never wielded a weapon in his life going up against impossible odds
>fighting two people he trusted the most

Chaos child's common route was it's greatest strength and it's biggest weakness. It had everything I would want in a finale for the game, only problem is it's the first fucking ending you get and every one after doesn't hold a candle to it.

youtube.com/watch?v=VTsD2FjmLsw

takes the main theme of the series and mixes it with TIM's theme, mostly in 7/4 time, adding in the percussive motif of the Collectors and the choral motif for the Reapers.

Without a human princess, please.
With Silver having some speed instead of wearing 100ton boots. And day/night cycle in levels like they said.

I love when reboots of classic series uses music from those games. The way Mick Gordon fuses some classic DooM tracks into his ambient tracks in Eternal is fucking sex to the ears.

It's uncanny how EA can suck all the fun out of series I used to unironically love. Don't even get me started on Dead Space.

I think it gets shafted because 3 has better standout tracks and 5 has better atmospheric/background music. The hip-hop and jazz influences also tend to make those tracks a lot more noticeable than "yet another Jrpg with Jpop". I do think it does a better job of tugging the heartstrings than either of those games though. It layers this wistfulness in a lot of tracks that makes the whole game incredibly comfy.

youtube.com/watch?v=SuwQjZ3ZAxE

>Boss theme is sung from the boss' perspective
>bonus if it's the boss' voice actor singing the song too
I love FFXIV for this shit
youtube.com/watch?v=JXBUfYC-gZA
youtube.com/watch?v=FV_IP4mNJCI
youtube.com/watch?v=u20Py_d2aI8
The last one even fits the bonus criteria

God, yes. I'd even accept Elise still being around if she was less of a damsel and didn't try to live out her furry fantasies with Sonic. Hell, imagine Silver's gameplay being like a speedy version of Force Unleashed instead of the molasses filled shitfest we got. It could have been fucking awesome.

It's a shame Sega couldn't hire some outside help for stuff like the story. I still think Mephiles is a good villain, and, on thread topic, I love his theme. youtu.be/0Y_HZlJNouM
"What...did you forget me? I owe much to you, Shadow."
Dan Green hammed it up and I absolutely love it. Call me an autist, I don't care.

god i wish this game as at least as good as Sonic Adventure 1, fuck SEGA

They dropped this bomb too early, kino feelings aside this theme was perfect for the finale of the trilogy, not that transitional conflict.
Yeah, I know, the trilogy's finale was shit.

>Day theme is bright and fast
>Night theme is chill yet full of caution
Most comfy level I've ever played. The night stages and the combat needed just a few changes to be truly wonderful.
youtu.be/UF3XUXWCxBs

I can give it one thing, it fucking nails the small town mood. A lot of its tracks feel nostalgic, in a weird way, and it's a lot more of an emotional soundtrack, as you said. It definitely stands on its own in that regard. I'll Face Myself in particular hits a lot of those notes, pun slightly intended, for me.
youtu.be/rV4BlAlrIlk

Persona 4's soundtrack had the best town themes in my opinion, Persona 5's has the best battle themes, Persona 3 had the best final boss theme and best atmospheric music, and the best ending theme.

At the risk of sounding like a filthy casual, how were 1 and 2's? I never played them.

>that background guitar
Yeah, I think P3/P5 try a bit too hard to sound complex or novel, P4 just lets the simple and sweet melodies speak for themselves.

5 also has the best shop themes though.
youtube.com/watch?v=IwPZWVEDZxk

I never played 1, but Persona 2 had some great tracks. My only issue with them is that they were often too short. It didn't have any tracks I outright hated like the later games generally did. It had the best opening theme of all the games for sure.

This is good shit. Should I play P2? I heard it's a lot different from the later games. I've also played SMT Nocturne and Strange Journey, and enjoyed them, if that helps.

youtube.com/watch?v=bDaKTYr-eig

Persona 2's gameplay is pretty shitty. Not because the combat itself is terrible but mostly because the game is incredibly easy, it actually makes the later persona games look difficult in comparison. It's a lot different than all the other Persona and SMT games, the fusion system is a complete clusterfuck, but since the game is so easy you can mostly stumble your way through it without too many issues. It's definitely worth playing since the story and characters are a bit better than the later games, just don't expect it to be anything like P3/4/5 other than the urban setting.

You don't even need to bother with the Fusion system since your starting Personas are so broken.

Not him but I'm a big fan of the original Persona's soundtrack (on PS1, not PSP), very atmospheric and ethereal.
youtube.com/watch?v=pLxqqNocoQk
youtube.com/watch?v=CI-X0sAInzA

Persona 2's is a bit more conventional but I love this track:
youtube.com/watch?v=BiIAJ8oUVSw

They also have more distinct Velvet Room themes, Meguro got lazy and just rehashed 3's version in 4/5.
youtube.com/watch?v=mGqoPQZyUsk
youtube.com/watch?v=FTIBbvTxMhA

The tragedy of Persona 1 and 2 is that (at least for me) everything about them is great EXCEPT the gameplay. And I say that as an SMT fan. The issue with them is not that they're "more SMT" (Persona 1 technically is since it has first-person dungeon crawling), they're just not particularly well-designed. Really slow combat, high encounter rates, uninspired dungeon design, poor balance, weird fusion mechanics, etc. Maybe you'd like them more than me but I think there's a reason they haven't caught on. Persona 3-5, for all their faults, are at least relatively snappy and concise. SMT combat is also generally a lot faster than P1/P2

Yeah that's why I said you can just stumble your way through it, you'll always have the starter Personae as a backup, extra fused Personae are just bonuses.

I've actually heard that the PS1 Personas were actually more difficult in comparison. Shows why I know, either way. I'll have to check it out if the story and stuff carry the games that much. I was actually about to ask which versions of the game are better, what makes the PSP one so bad?

>Sonic 06 Boss Theme

It's so fucking good, its such a shame it belongs to such a shit game

the quality of life improvements are worth it for the changes the psp port has.

Persona 1 is kind of fucked since the original PS1 localization is notoriously dogshit for many reasons, but the PSP version completely changed (and in my opinion ruined) the soundtrack. There's a patch out there somewhere that replaces the PSP's music with the original PS1 music, but it's not perfect since the PSP version has way fewer tracks than the original (I think about half) and the patch only makes 1:1 replacements.

Persona 2: Innocent Sin's PSP version is acceptable. Thankfully learned their lesson from P1 and added an option for the original OST. They did replace Kaneko's character art with Soejima's, but I think it's fine. Eternal Punishment on PSP was never localized so you'd have to play the PS1 version. Or maybe you understand Japanese and none of this applies to you.

Attached: persona 1 localization.png (1454x487, 596.92K)

the original P1 soundtrack is amazing
when I get the money I need to hunt down a copy desu

Technically the PSP versions should be better than the originals but they male wierd choices. In P1, they changed the music, (which I personally like), and in both P2's they changed the flow of battle to make them slower for some reason.

youtube.com/watch?v=GBbKs_3iAAc

You're preaching to the choir, man. I hate that one of my favorite OSTs is tied to such an awful game. I take some solace in that I think Sonic 3, Sonic Rush, and both Sonic Adventure's are better as a whole, which are all much better games (with some faults, admittedly).

I can unlock that in eternal cant i?

I always feel like an asshole responding to a bunch of people like this, like I'm not giving you all my full attention, but it'd be weird to respond to each of you individually. It is what it is, I guess. Sorry guys.

I'll be level, learning Japanese is something I always wanted to do, but I just never thought I was good enough to learn it. That and it'd be a pretty impractical language for me to learn when I could learn something used more in my country. Anyway, weren't there some fan patches for this kind of thing somewhere online? I know you mentioned there's one for P1, but I feel like I remember seeing someone post about a translation for Eternal Punishment for PSP. Either way, it's sounding like the PSP is the way to go with playing them, and I can always listen to the original OST on Youtube or something. You guys know how well they emulate?

Good tracks, though. I never played the Riders games, are they as awkward as they look? I only every played the Sonic/Sega kart racers.

to be honest the only song i like in cds american soundtrack is sonic boom.

last update October 2018. i guess its time to learn Japanese

That's fair, I guess. It's very polarizing, I admit. I think if the American OST was in a darker game, it'd get shit on less.
