Read the codex, there's a whole story of him being founded by the Sentinels, fought in the frontlines in the sentinel fighting other beings that are not demons, then other shenanigans like killing the titan, the sentinel civil war etc.

Doom 2016 was a "reboot" of Doom 1: Hell Guards = Barons of Hell, Cyberdemon, Spider Mastermind.
Doom Eternal was a mishmash of Doom 2 and Doom 64: Icon of Sin and Mother Demon.
Now they have to do something new or reboot Doom 3.

Does it really matter? Doom is over the top enough where you could pit him against any bloodthirsty supernatural army and it would still keep the same vibe as long as you are the same aggressive doomguy. Obviously keep the traditional demons for the sake of staying true to the origins of the games design, but take a page out of God of War's book and bring new mythology or something. Like fighting demons from different cultures, fighting in purgatory or some void world, etc.

Same voice actor, same lines as in 2016, Vega telling Hayden he is the father, Hayden knowing so much about the Maykr world and lore, His architecture is alien to the scietest and can easily hook up the the fortress of doom since it matches his architecture perfectly even though the ship is by maykr and sentinel design.

The whole plot and all the visuals beyond the Makyr level felt like a knockoff of Darksiders but I dig that sort of thing so it’s fine. It’s probably a retcon from 2016 but it makes sense for his motives and an angel staying loyal to his duty when the others have fallen is cool thematically.

Well the way the makers work is that the Khan Mayker is their leader and after a period of time they like retire and a new Mayker takes their place and like absorbs their conscious and power or whatever. This is suppose to be done when a Khan Mayker realizes they are no longer a good leader and able to move them further. The Khan Mayker in Eternal never gave up that power and has been essentially stagnating the Maykers.

They mentioned the "Dark Lord" a couple times, the next one might just be Doomguy fucking Hell in the ass until the Devil shows up so he can kill him too.
There's also the "Mysterious Voice" that subtly implies that there's more to the story we've yet to see.

There are still the hell titans/leaders and that mysterious voice from Khan Makyr. We have yet to really take on the final bosses of each faction.

As long as demonkind isn't extinct, Doom Guy will always have reason to keep killing demons which is in the end of the day the only reason to keep making games. There's always a bigger fish.
