P4 wasn't that bad, it was just more uneven than 3. Still had some good character arcs and great villains. P5 was where the writing shit the bed hard.

only thing that went wrong was it became less gloomy, that atmosphere was by far the best thing about p3. also, i may be misremembering, but i feel like p3 had way less stupid "you're tired, go to bed" moments. i'm ok with days where you go into the dungeon not getting to do anything at night, but for p4 and p5 it's like if you did ANYTHING out of the ordinary at school that day, you couldn't do anything at night. very fucking annoying.

P3 was lightning in a bottle and was the perfect mix/balance of what should be acceptable in terms of being a dating VN disguised as an RPG. P4 as a follow-up proved how cancerous otaku culture/fanservice in this formula can be when it tips the scale too far away from also just being a JRPG.
