Just play the Sky trilogy, preferably on PC, which is its best platform. If you like that, feel free to grab the Crossbell games, and if you like those, feel free to play the Cold Steel games and watch it all burn to the ground.

psp version is just inferior PC version. The remakes are on Vita but never localized.

Ok then, I will give the first trilogy a try. I've already finished p5 and FFX and I have nothing better to play at the moment, beside maybe for Catherine. I hope it's a good series.

you're gonna read A LOT. the trilogy is a VERY slow burn. if you dont like that i sugest not even starting it or you're gonna waste your time on a game youre gonna eventually drop.

What do you mean by things? Overarching story carries over between all of them. If you mean actual save data porting: FC-> SC, SC->the 3rd, Zero-> Ao, CS->CSII, (CSII->CSIII if you're playing jp Kai remasters), CSIII->CSIV

I'm looking at the first two for PSP and the third seems to be marketed as a spinoff game of a sort- recurring characters but not plot. Or am I wrong?

You are my nigga and absolutely correct. I love the entire Sky Trilogy though.

3rd is a side story that has many of the characters from the Sky cast participating. It is both an amazing sendoff to the Sky cast while also setting up the future arcs of the game. I highly recommend it. Its my favorite right behind FC.

3rd is great, it gives a lot of development to some characters that need it, expands on the world with cool stuff like salt pale and star door 15 was the most kino trails ever got

I've had Trails in the Sky 1 & SC and Cold Steel 1 on my PC for ages, how are they really and where to start if they're good? They're a bit anime for my usual tastes but if they're fun enough to play it doesn't really matter so much and I do like turn-based games (though that's the extent of my knowledge about the gameplay).

I've been playing the first TiTS and it's pretty good, but man does it have some slow patches. Also do party members ever stop leaving? Or are Estelle and Joshua the only permanent party members?

you need to get into the right mindset to like fc, if you're expecting some grand high stakes jrpg then you won't get that until much later
