What is the first real casual filter of this game?
I just beat Slayer of the Sand, who wasn’t particularly hard, but he kept one shotting Veronica.

Probably the Gloomnivore.
Indignus definitely
Dragon Quest isn't trying to filter casuals
The default difficulty is pretty much baby mode
Are you playing on hard mode or easy mode?
Because on hard, the first filter is Slayer of the sands.
The big one is Dora in Gray, that's where the difficulty jumps and even on easy she's supposedly still rough.
those animations are total shit
Dora in Grey.
You'll know when you get there. And if you're not on draconian "Make all monsters stronger", nothing in the game is even remotely threatening.
There's only one hard boss in the entire game
I didn’t pick a difficulty setting, do you mean it I’m using any of the handicaps? I’m not so I guess I’m playing on easy.
If you didn't pick difficulty, you're on Easy. You will never have any problems with anyhting. You will very likely beat the final boss on first try. Just imagine there's some difficulty and try to enjoy the story, which is actually pretty good on occasion.
The draconian option "Make the monsterd Strong" is the hard mode. The game is pretty much balanced for that option, all your secondary abilities actually make sense and have a use.
Don't feel too bad, it's complete bs to hide a difficulty option like that, especially since all the other Draconian options are nonsense made to make th3 game infuriating.
>playing DQ for the animations
Probably Dora in Gray. I beat her in my first try but it was pretty rough.
The DS remakes of 4-6 had some pretty well animated sprites
Goddamn well that sucks and I’m too far in the restart now
If you're on Slayer of the Sands, you're not far at all. Just restart with the difficulty option picked. You can skip the rest of the draconian stuff since it's largely gimmicks or for re-runs with self-restrictions; if you want to play the game in the most balanced format, just tick "Make all enemies stronger" and leave the rest alone.
You're like 5% through the game. Just restart it.
I think he's, like, 15 hours into the game, man.
it's more like 5-10, it's just the desert
If it really matters to you then there is probably a code to let you shift the difficulty on Switch like on PC but you are going to have to hack your Switch to do it
If he skips cutscenes and dialogue, it's still 5-10 hours of crap to replay. It IS going to be a bit of a chore. He might be burned out soon after he reaches the desert again.
t. pokemon fan
he can do it in 3h, replaying things is a lot faster
you named your hero 'faggot' lmfao
dude, i let the AI handle him on normal mode.
i won with 2 people dead due to bad AI decisions
>a code to let you shift the difficulty on Switch like on PC
I couldn't even do that on PC even though I tried editing the save file. On Switch I'm pretty confident that hacking games like that is impossible.
I’m 8 hours in....
There's no casual filter if you play on default settings. If you put on the extra difficulty modes then I think Dora in Grey or whatever her name was is the first challenging boss.
Well, I discovered that I'm playing on braindead difficulty when I was about 20 hours in and ended up finishing the game like that. You should probably just replay properly.
I want to one-shot Veronica. In the cunny.
It's a 100 hour game.
You could use cheat engine to do it on PC. Edizon lets you do a bunch of stuff with the Switch port but I guess nobody figured out how to toggle draconian settings with it
I want to go back to the better timeline where she isn't
>DQ
>Animations
Remember when this series was first person only and just flashed colors on the screen for attacks
I’m playing the game now and Dora in Gray was easy as fuck because I overleved way too much without even realizing it.
This is literally a masterpiece
I had a hard time with the act 3 version of the magic beast that kept increasing it’s speed and power
Honestly, the 2nd Tatsunaga fight is just fucking brutal, even on normal difficulty.
Calasmos if you don't know you can use weapons.
I was breezing through until I was fighting Tatzunaga in the volcano, had to actually manually control the party members so they dont do dumb choices.
Should I put the limit XP option on? It will essentially stop me from grinding which is a good thing right?
I want some puff
Yeah FUCK this guy
It's hardly a filter when it's the final boss
So is default really that easy? I’m still early enough to switch to hard mode.
If you're at all experienced with JRPGs, yeah, it's pretty goddamn easy
If you're not playing with stronger monsters on then restart. I actually got all the way up to Dora in Grey before biting the bullet and just starting over. The game is a snooze fest without it and feels just right with it on (at least until the act 3 final boss where your suddenly 20+ levels behind what he's balanced around. I got to him at 50 and just fuck man, was literally one shotting my whole party)
You really need stronger monsters on. It doesnt just boost monster stats, bosses get more turns and new AI scripts
Protip: use sylvando through the mid game, head super fucking useful. Can negate status ailments and has earlyish access to a group heal
Indisputably the "Tentacular." My first Game Over as it required me to think instead of my general auto pilot strategy of "hit it till it's dead." Dora the Grey was my 2nd loss, but that was less because she was difficult (she was not) - but more because I didn't know she could charm my party and went in unprepared. Then I just cast Snap, Crackle, Poof and she proceeded to drop dead. No more gameovers until the sudden difficulty spike in Act 3.
This game is not really designed to be too difficult with its vanilla settings.
That's what I did, but outside of the first 10 hours or so I never ran into an exp wall. You can turn it on but it didnt really seem to amount to much
The turn based combat. Casuals can´t get past that.
On stronger monsters, Dora gets an additional turn along with shitting out tons of damage. Make it trickier since theres a much higher chance she'll charm multiple people/sylvando every turn
The secret to the tentacle nigger is to talk to the cannon lady right before the fight and she'll fuck him up enough that the fight is easy.
Before that I was getting my shit kicked in.
Alright lads OP here, I’m pretty far in (just got Sylvando) but I’m going to restart for hard mode. The game is too easy on default, I wish they would have explained this before starting the fucking game though because now I have like 10 hours to catch back up on.
Yeah harder monsters is the way to go
Guys I'm thinking of picking up this game as I'm injured and it might be months before I can use a computer properly again. Is it relatively difficult on draconian mode? I love turn based games like this but if there's no challenge what's the point, ya feel?
You're getting meme'd
The default mode is perfectly fine and eliminates all grinding.
Overweening pride, first real roadblock for me guess I'll need to grind
You probably won't regret it, you're actually very early into the game, like the 5% mark.
It's the kind of game that lets you inflict status ailments on bosses and on the hard difficulty you absolutely have to.
Start of Act 2 castle boss fight made me sweat TBQH, up until then I was passing on by without any problems. The team composition in Act 2 is largely to blame for that until you get used to the new party members and how to cover up your weak points (heal sluts).
Protips:
-Smell treasure skill also accounts for pots you haven't smashed. Shiny objects on the ground don't count towards the remaining unpicked up loot Smell detects.
-Deadweight party member has only one use (besides free smell) and that is boomerang full AoE, combined with Jade they're the fastest attack animation mob killers
-For critical meme metal hunting: Spoiler, Jade, Deadweight-kun, Serena probably (spears)
-Feel free to rest on unused skills points, everyone gets additional skill trees later, no need to mindlessly respec if you don't need to so relax and wait
-Hero's single swords are better for AoE mob killing, Hero's great swords for large amount of the game are the boss weapons you'd wanna use
-Do the specific team attack quests when you want, don't burn yourself out getting those out of the way
-If for some God forsaken reason you're actually dying, consider using the crafting system and get yourself +3 across the board
It's been bugging me but I wanna know the experts, should I just dump the shit tier items you get warned about selling? Cosmetic changing items aside, I don't really care about some useless magic shield from the medal rewards being on my inventory (it sells for like 3,000 and its garbage but I get a warning it'll never come back).
I only played the original, does Gamma have dialogue for if you marry all the party members?
this guy and bathysfear whooped my ass
It's a good indicator that you shouldn't waste time on certain fights and move on.
More than for self-controlling, it's like a checkmark telling you that you're done with an area.
