My only real issue is how card packs are handled. I wish they followed the progression of the card game a bit more and weren't just random soft thematic packs. If I'm playing through DM or GX campaign I want to know I'm getting cards that were out during those periods. The npcs don't use links cards so stop giving me fucking link shit.

That is a pain in the ass. Another annoyance that is linked to how the packs work is how much grinding you need to do to get all the cards. There is legitimately a lot of grinding required if you want everything. These are without a doubt negatives but they still shouldn't be enough to turn anyone away from the games IMO. I do wish packs were handled differently too though.

Enormous. Literally hundreds of hours worth of content and I'm not meming. You have the campaign to go through which is large in its own right, then you do the reverse campaign which is where you play the same duels from the other perspective, then you have challenge battles, online battles as well as a mode which I haven't yet tried in which you build a deck out of some random cards you get in packs or some shit and duel with that. Again, they added basically 99% of cards, as far as I'm aware this game is completely up to date with the current complete English set of cards available. There's apparently a handful of promo cards missing but that is all.

Yeah basically you're doing the anime duels with reversals so you can play both sides. Each character also has challenge duels you can complete. With 100 characters there's a lot of shit to go through.

How does the game work? Is it just a collection of games or is it a story straight through the series? do you unlock sets as the game progresses or are there set limits within certain eras? I loved the games when i was younger but stopped playing after the early DS games.

Campaign mode is basically you watching some scenes from the anime playing out before dueling someone. You get the choice of using the pre-set campaign decks or using your own. I personally went into the game expecting to use my own decks during the campaign but I opted to use the pre-set ones and I had a fucking awesome time doing that to my own surprise. It's not like the Championship games where you're running around a world though, you're essentially clicking the next duel, you watch/read a scene then duel. That's how the campaign mode works. You go through DM, GX, 5Ds, Zexal, Arc-V and now Vrains story. There's an impressive amount of duels per season too.

It's literally the ONE fatal flaw with the game. It makes it so fucking difficult and time consuming to get 3 of every card. I've always hated that part of the game and I always mention it first when discussing the negative aspects. It's not enough to turn me away from the game by any means but jesus christ is it a shit system for packs.

The campaign does an excellent job at easing you into the new summoning types. There's tutorials for each of them. 5Ds campaign only has up to synchro monsters for example, Zexals only up to XYZ, Arc V Pendulum, etc etc. There's a ton of cards now, that's true, but you shouldn't have that as a negative reason for you not to try it. It's fun being overwhelmed with endless deck ideas.

I agree with OP, this game is amazing, especially now MR4 is gone and doesn't fuck over everything after DM. All I wish for now is some option to have the AI use a deck you built. I loved making decks for anime characters in Tag Force and then have the AI use it against me.
