I want to get into VNs like Steins;Gate and other weeb games while I wait out the quarantine. Should I get a PSP or PSVITA?
PSP is 30 euro, PSVITA is 100.

Vita since it offers more visual novels alongside with what you get from the PSP and PS1. Both need to be hacked and have a microsd adapter anyway
Assuming of course you can read moonrunes otherwise your choice of VNs is very limited in either case (more so on PSP).

Go with Vita since it's (obviously) basically PSP+Vita games. Also if you can read moonrunes the Japs are still releasing some VNs for Vita.

Vita lets you play everything the PSP could plus emulate everything up to and including PS1.
It's a very nice handheld in general, even the later models screens still blow every other handheld and the Switch out of the water.

i can't think of any VN on PSP that's not significantly better on other platforms.
the vita screen's pixel density is enough that its relatively low resolution doesn't matter, but PSP, and consequently 2D PSP games played on anything else, is so low res that it just doesn't hold up to modern standards.
VNs natively on vita almost all look fine. the only VN i've seen that's so bad on vita you should avoid it is new danganronpa V3.
if you insist on buying a handheld get a vita, but it's hard to recommend either if you have a usable PC, as there aren't that many translated VNs on consoles at all, even considering fan translations. on quarantine you don't need portability so PC seems like an obvious winner.

I always wonder if 2chan has these kinds of threads but for western games. Like "SIB an Xbox 360 or an Xbox One for military shooters?"

Anyway, get the Vita if you intend to buy one of these. The PSP is trivial to emulate, so if all you want is PSP you can do it for free. Vita will actually get you some quality weeb content not on other platforms. If you want to futureproof yourself, get a Switch because that seems to be the new home of weebshit going forward.

I want to add that the sole translated VNs on Vita I can recall are
>Steins;Gate (not the spin-offs however)
>Muv-Luv & Muv-Luv Alternative (there is also a spin-off part of a first-print offer that is jap-only)
>Utawarerumono titles
>Chaos;Child (again the romantic comedy spinoff isnt translated either)
>Hakuisei Ren'ai Shoukougun RE:Therapy
>Ar No Surge (which is missing the prequel Ciel no Surge's extra contents in english)

There are plenty more visual novels that are sadly japanese-only on the handheld, just naming a few:
>everything from Key (Little Busters, Clannad, etc)
>Grisaia Trilogy, including the short stories and Magical Idol Girl Michiru
>Flowers (yuri mystery/SOL novel in four seasonal episodes)
>Amagami (port with upgraded HD visuals)
>Eve Burst Error, Desire, Doukoku Soshite (remakes of old Saturn/PC98 point-and-click novels that dont look like ass unlike the YUNO one)
>Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm
>Island
>Ouka Sabaki Zan (an on-budget Ace Attorney game set in old feudal Japan, point&click novel where you resolve murder cases and you act as the judge in courts)
>Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai (all-in-one version)

>on quarantine you don't need portability so PC seems like an obvious winner.
Yeah the current situation doesnt help much the point of handhelds, but reading VNs on the Vita is pretty much similar to reading a book instead of being stuck to the desktop.

Just read them on your PC.

While on topic, what’s the BEST Vita game of all time. If you HAD to only choose one.

There's a metric fuckload of translatedOtome titles on Vita. Literally dozens of them
Also a lot of smaller titles you forgot like Fata Morgana and Root Double

Either P4G or Freedom Wars. I can't choose which.

Wipeout 2048

I'd say EDF2 Portable was my personal favourite out of them all. I've played a lot in the japanese version which had a separate online due of a game patch and lobbies were still present even back in 2019. I assume it's dead although I havent really checked up.
I'm not into otome VNs at all so my apologies for ignoring them completely. That said, this reminds me some people complained about the shit translation 'as in rewriting things completely) in otome handled by Aksys.

get vita so you can play steins gate, zero escape and muv luv

I can't choose between steins;gate or freedom wars. they're too different. definitely one of the two, though.

Get the Vita, and hack it if you want.
VA-11 Hall-A is really good and I'm barely into VNs.

Anyone tried Oreshika? I bought it near release but dropped it a couple of hours in, and have been meaning to go back and give it another shot. From what I remember there was a roulette system and timed dungeons which I wasn't into at the time.

Is there a vita emulator for android yet?

>vita emulator
You a funny guy

Attached: 1556348178606.jpg (600x375, 71.96K)

for you~

It's nice if you are into grindy progression focused dungeon crawlers. The story is basically nonexistent and just window dressing, it's all about ever so slowly transforming your clan from a bunch of weaklings getting bullied by the weakest Oni to literal god slayers on a quest to enslave the entire Japanese Pantheon.

That sounds cool. Glad there's something to it, I'll put a decent amount of time into it and see how it goes. It's hard to push past those early hours in a new game when I'm unsure of the quality and if it gets any better.

there's not good vita emulation on PC, much less phones. it's very recent that the vita emulator boots games at all and they're still fucked up and unplayable. we're years away.
wii u, switch, PS3 and 360 emulators are all further ahead.

What VN is your screenshot? looks dope as fuck!

I am considering buying a Ps Vita. Oled or LCD model?

OP here, afaik the difference is:
OLED: better screen, bigger heavier
LCD: less nice screen, better battery life
The OLED model can be bought cheaper where I live.

In my country as well but I am concerned about Oled screen aging

I really love the idea of a handheld with an OLED screen, but the possibility of it dying on me prevents me from buying one.

Because there's no Vita emulator that's why Vita exclusives feel worthwhile to play

In few years from now we might get PS4 emulator and everybody will shitpost about how they played Bloodborne in 8k 120fps and it sucks while game like Soul Sacrifice still remain holy and untouchable for PCfags

LCD if you've never seen the OLED, OLED if you've seen it up close. Basically you won't notice the screen difference unless you've seen them both up close. It really boils down to the 2k(LCD) having a better battery life and non shitty property cables. The cables that come with the 1k models tend to be pretty bad, actually they are pretty bad. I can see wires coming out of mine.

OLED has a stronger quality build and its known for having a pretty good screen, the main flaw is that all the Vita OLED screens have this weird green goo shit when the screen displays black/dark colors which is visible if you play on a poorly lit room. You also need to get an actual sony memory card (4gb) in order to hack the oled model

Slim model has a larger battery life, uses the generic micro-USB slot for charging and transferring, and has an integrated 1GB memory which mean you can directly hack it without ever needing a sony memory card. The screen itself is pretty fine, it looks more yellowish if you compare side-by-side with the oled model but that's it.

Okay, from your post I guess you have a cfw on your Vita. I consider doing this aswell but is PSN online play and store still available after the flash?

You can still use PSN like normal if you have CFW, yeah.
It's basically impossible to get banned for it unless you do dumb shit like hack in online games or download trophy sets with messed up timestamps. Playing pirated games and even going online with them works perfectly fine and really nobody has ever been banned for it.

OLED: 100-125 euro
LCD: 175+ euro
I think I'd go for OLED.

Persona 4 golden
Then I'd say digimon cyber sluts then world of final fantasy.

That's nice. Thanks

All my Vitas are in 3.68 firmware with the h-encore CFW. You can play online fine, browse the PSN store and download games & DLCs you legitimately purchased as well. You need to be sure that you disabled the auto-update, set up the DNS settings (Primary DNS alone is good enough, dont bother to create a secondary DNS or it can entirely block access to PSN) and spoofed version to the latest known firmware in henkaku settings so it tricks PSN. Sony doesnt give a shit about Vita CFW, it only detects actual cheats like the achievement managers and else.

Also just an advice but if you dont plan to play on your hacked Vita for a long extended period, like for an entire week or two without ever touching it, just shut off the console instead of putting on sleep. The CFW shits the bed for some reason when it remains largely inactive that way.

Yep, there's really no reason not to be on official firmware with sony. They fucked the vita up so hard that its like you have to smuggle drugs blind folded by foot into a country just to be a legit vita owner.
>expensive and faulty property memory cards
>needing online connection just to use the usb to transfer files to and from your vita to your computer
>shitty cables for the 1k models
>certain games weren't patched to the PS/Vita TV and basically black listed
Hacked vita fixes most of this shit and a ton of other problems.

bro just use kirikiroid2 if you have an android phone. play pc vns directly on your phone.
its still handheld and don't have to spend any extra money.
just try it to get started.

You can hack Vita and make LCD look almost like OLED.

What do I get:
vita OLED + 16gb card (and some games I can probably sell) 120 euro
vita LCD + 64gb card (custom firmware already installed) 175 euro

I don't have a smartphone lmao

You can find much better deals on Yahoo JP auctions.

I once bought a blue psvita from Japan for my gf (at the time), that was back in early 2016, had to pay a shitton of import tax.

Yeah but then I get to pay 300€ for shipping and handling plus customs.

it's really expensive to get shit from Japan into my land):

dont bother buying Vitas with pre-installed CFWs because it's a simple recipe for disasters since you dont know what was modified in case you want to change things or in the other case, if anything goes wrong. Buying a sony memory card with a Slim model is also retarded considering the the Slim has an internal 1GB that is far more than enough to install the hack & plugins before using the sd2vita adapter with an actual microsd card.

Attached: 2019-05-23-082922.png (960x544, 816.17K)

To be fair, an 64GB card is included, those proprietary cards are hella expensive, even when buying from japan

My country has no import tax and the shipping was like $10. Sucks for you, I guess.

Damn, what country?

The Vita does a great job emulating the PSP from what I've experienced. Better even, with much faster load times, save states, and a beautiful screen.
I'd suggest the Vita if you can shell out for it and get CFW.

Netherlands?

Probably not, that's where I'm from, always getting fucked when buying shit from outside the EU.

Russia.

you don't need DNS blocking if you spoof your version. if a new update comes out, just decline it, change your spoof, and reboot. just set a normal DNS IP like your router or OpenDNS.

ignore the included memory card and whether there's already CFW, these are easily fixed yourself, look for better LCD deals.

If I get a recently updated oled vita, can I just
>h-encore
>downgrade to 3.60
>install henkaku
>install enso
and have a permanent CFW solution (provided I followed the steps correctly)

yes. can't think of a good reason to use 3.60 instead of 3.65 though, it also has enso.

If I really have to choose, I'd pick Dungeon Travelers 2
>complete newcomer to dungeon crawling, game feel fair and challenging
>humor is alright
>building party is fun
>can hear my favorite VA all the time
I really want to pick Freedom Wars but I didn't find it as fun as MHP3rd somehow.

I can find a cheaper one for 150, some store sells it so there's no real photos

I heard 3.60 has better compatibility with homebrew plugins etc.

this is a common argument but i haven't run into it at all. every plugin and homebrew app i use works fine on 3.65.

So it's 120 euro for oled with 16gb card + 6 games that I can sell versus 150 euro for lcd without extras

I prefer to set up at least one DNS block just in case to be sure.
all the plugins that do matter work on the other firmware versions though
