Ideally it's best to express everything in KiB (1024 bytes). This is how hardware and software usually measure storage/speed internally and it gets to be a bigger difference as it scales to TiB and PiB vs TB and PB

Seeding unpopular files is unreliable. Torrenting plays best with either very common files or files that you can wait for, like installers of popular programs and videos that you'll get around to watching
In the end you would have a situation where the site probably has to host a lot of files but it's also harder to manage and update things since you probably don't want your torrent client connecting with your mod loader.

No, I get it. I wouldn't want it to be some "steam workshop exclusive". If anything the nexus is leagues above that, because in case with some games you can't just outright download mods from the steam workshop.
To me that seems like a bit of an anti-piracy measure, and if anything I see that as taking a dump on pirates. And piracy, at least in my opinion, is essential to game development in every way.

You're right, I'm just expressing my personal opinion coupled with experience.
For example, I enjoyed Kenshi for a long while, but then I realized how shallow the game was. But since I spent at least a hundred hours on it, I bought it in the end. I still think the game is mostly shit, but I love it.
Then there's Factorio. I got so addicted to it I'd probably have easier time coming off of heroin. I pirated it and played it for hundreds of hours, so I bought it in the end.
And then there are older games like Fallout 1, 2. I pirated them and love them to death, but I'll never buy them because the original creators will never get anything now. I don't want to pay those who had nothing to do with creating those games.
So I'll keep to my opinion that piracy is absolutely necessary and eradicating it is a vile practice.

The only option forward in that line of reasoning would be to mandate that all developers relinquish their IP and go open source. It's just not realistic when media companies own our governments, and video games are starting to join them
