This line of thining never made sense to me. Art is meant to elevate the soul of the observer; to inflict an emotion or a sense of purpose in the viewer. If a video game, which in most cases is a combination of most forms of art, can inflict this same sense as any one piece of art, how is a game not in and of itself art?

Or watch the Mona Lisa and recieve how people live there.

To say anything can become art, I think, is disingenuous. Not even all of "art" can be considered "art." Take a look at that one anons post where he toiled hours on a dragon sculpture only to be placed right next to a shitty model of a man jerking off into his mouth. Art allows people to explore unknown elements of being, and to give those things context and manifestation. We use it to better understand what it means to be human. Obviously the creator of the jackoff sculpture had nothing worthwhile to communicate or explore. You can generally tell when a piece of art was created without a purpose like that. I would say I have played games that have impacted me in ways that could be described as being artistic. I think it would be more fitting to say art can be created and exist in any medium a person can come up with. If you have a purpose to a creation, you will have constructed it in a way to make it's purpose known. Whether or not there are any games that actually achieve this well is debatable, but your being kind of an Ebert if you honestly think an interactive medium with the potential to explore countless stories, settings, and concepts in immersive ways has no hope of being art at any point in the future.

Now we have this to pass down to generations.

Art is human expression encapsuled in a medium. That medium could be a canvas, a block of marble, an instrument. The piece of art has to have some meaning, and a truly human one at that.
