arbalest has the most useful niche, destroyer has such a long charge time (which slows you down badly) that it automatically relegates it to only being used on a freeze grenade combo

I think people were treating the chainsaw like it was Doom 2016's chainsaw, which doesn't refill. At the same time, the tutorials literally tell you the chainsaw refills, and various tips tell you to use it to "get what you need". I knew it worked that way from the start due to dev interviews I had watched.

The destroyer blade can wipe out entire crowds and does a fuckton of damage, but the sheer vulnerability feels like a kneejerk response to how overpowered the Gauss Siege Mode was.

I'm grateful that this game has reminded me that I'm still good at vidya even though I'm an old boomer. Been playing on nightmare and not really hitting any roadblocks or having a hard time with anything. Even slayer gates only took me 2-3 tries each.

Is it normal that the heavy rifle is the strongest weapon in the game, including maybe even the BFG?
My micromissile mod stopped shooting micromissiles and instead shoots the sniper projectiles from the other weapon mod but with the firing speed of micromissiles
It tears through everything near instantly including tyrants, only shielded enemies are safe

I can sympathize with ammo because I've ran out a few times, but once you get two ammo upgrades its a total non-issue.
Another one is the idea that you're "required" to use a certain weapon. That is really only true for the first three or so levels. After you get the SSG you can kill literally any enemy with any weapon, especially if you have mods and their upgrades.

That's fair. I can't even press the right buttons most of the time and my slow-ass reaction time necessitates using the weapon wheel

is good, you have to use your equipment more, which may be a good or bad thing depending on what astrology sign you were born under. All weapons seem to have their use/niche, but not all weapon mods are viable, SSG/Ballista wombo combo still basically wrecks shit. Most people get filtered by the marauder (just watch for the green twinkle in his eye and the Ballista -> SSG -> Ballista his fucking sack off). I'm fucking rambling but just pirate the game and try and buy it if you like it.

Far more challenging and I love it.
You're made to use everything you have rather than just being able to breeze through everything with SSG, Gauss Cannon, and the runes for infinite ammo and ammo boost, I love it.

The upped enemy counts also help. It constantly keeps you on the run.

The original dooms had you 95% dependant on the shotgun, switching only if the demons weren't in range or needed to shit out more damage real quick. Doom16 just had broken combat because none of the weapons were balanced and a lot of strats were broken as shit. Are you just bad at video games? Are you so incompetent you can't press another button to do damage?

no problem nigga. There's a lot of good in this game, they put a lot more effort into the overal combat encounter design and the flow of combat in general. I think it's a good thing because while I adore 2016 and all previous titles in the series, I'm glad they decided to add a breath of freshness into things. It's been a wild ride for sure.
