Because it's shit but there's also people with shit taste in the world.
>Why is this game so divisive?
That's every Final Fantasy game
Because it's great but there's also people with shit taste in the world.
They realized men only want to play VII so they shifted their target demo to women and then men got butthurt about it.
6, 7, 9, and 12 aren't divisive.
A bunch of people think it's linear even though it's not significantly more or less linear than previous entries
People think an overworld = better game when in reality overworlds are absolute padding shit.
Because Oney said Teedus is shit
7 and 12 are absolutely divisive
And Spoony
The game is shit since they officially call Tidus Tee-dus and not Thai-dus.
He is all about water-theme. He is called Tidus. Tide > Tidus. Fucking morons.
Its the second most universally liked FF after FF7
Sales, popularity charts, everything points to that
Toriyama.
The game is garbage.
7 is only divisive because of the stigma of being "the greatest game ever" that was attached to it. Most people would still agree that it's a good game at the least.
Vaan is the only thing people unanimously complain about with 12.
This, the game has a lot of bad design and writing decisions that are directly this man's fault, which were repeated with 13.
Each of those are divisive
It's a good game, but it is also the one that started the final hallway meme.

Many people HATE the gameplay and story of 12.
Tidus and Yuna actually mean sun and moon and it has nothing to do with tides or water
12 is pretty divisive.
Your main character isn't the protag,
The semi real time combat
The gambit system (hurr durr game plays itself/concentrated automation autism)
The job system.
The mmo style quests/sidequests.
Quickenings/chaining
That fucking weapon that you had to skip certain treasure cheats to get.
Badly signposted sideauests.
I still personally think its the best of that gen of ff games. Beats out the linearity of 10 13 any day.
Also fran.
Only outside of Yas Forums. I don't think I've seen a single person who hated FFX off of Yas Forums.
They had to sacrifice something for those impressive graphics
they took a popular Jrpg series and turned it into a linear movie game.
>sun and moon have nothing to do with tides
GameFaqs also hates it
why is it that the only arguement i see aganist FFX is the tidus laughing maymay or that tidus is "whiny"? do people seriously not understand Tidus' character or is it just autism and not understanding things in context?
Because it was a tour de force of graphics and design at the time, with arguably the best combat system of the series, but also the shittiest annoying ass story possible.
Yeah, but his name means sun and her name means moon. His name has nothing to do with meaning anything water related. stop pretending to be retarded

Play it and you'll understand
Litteral who?
>linear
>horrible minigames
>bad story with or without Tidus
>bad characters with or without Tidus
>mediocre OST
>uninteresting world
>braindead easy
FFX has nothing going for it outside of the battle system.
>do people seriously not understand Tidus' character
He's an irritating little wimp whose role is shoehorned. You could remove him entirely from the story and it would be better.
why did you describe 7?
too short, linear and the end game is shit
Actually it's the first in Japan
9 is trash
Okay. How about the word time? You don't say tee-me, right? Let's just round up some words shall we?
>Time
>Tired
>Tight
>Titan
>Tile
and so on. Calling him Tee-dus is stupid.
Lots of people have trouble with the self playing MMO gameplay and the dungeon crawling. It's not just Vaan
>linear
Most FF games are linear. An overworld doesn't mean it's not linear when you can only progress by going to a certain place
>horrible minigames
I'd agree if blitzball wasn't one of the best minigames in a FF game
>bad story
>bad characters
>uninteresting world
most people would consider the story and characters memorable and interesting
>mediocre OST
Now you're just making shit up
>braindead easy
I wouldn't say braindead easy. Seymour, Sin, and Yunalesca fights are considered hard for most first time players. Also most FF are considered pretty easy
try a little harder my dude. If you said unskippable cutscenes and often times bad VA, I would have given you a 2/10 at your attempt
7 has an overworld
7 has a significantly better story
7 has significantly better characters
7 has a significantly better OST
>bad voice acting
>MC looks like Meg Ryan
>Forced blitzball segments
>shitty level up grid that makes FF8 look like a masterpiece
>supporting cast is lame as fuck outside of Lulu's tits
>the ending is so bad it has to be an inside joke for the development team
I dunno, you tell me what went right.
>overworld = automatically good lol
>better story
You mean the story that's immediately pushed aside once you leave Midgar and only picked up once Aeris dies, then immediately pushed aside again till the end?
>significantly better characters
Too bad many of the characters are completely pushed aside with no development after their minor arcs *cough RedXIII, Cid, Yuffie, Vincent, Cait Sith. FFX develops every single character over the whole game
>better OST
>Midi shit
lewl
Yeah but the gameplay is shit and that's all that matters in a video game
>MC looks like Meg Ryan
He's clearly Dicaprio, come on man.
Based gamefaqs gamer boomers
Fuck 10.
Spoony why did you let your site die
The target demographic hate Tidus because he reminds them of the popular high school chads who were popular for liking sports and being friendly in general.
Contrast that to FF7's Cloud, who is famous and liked for being the "Bad Ass Uncaring Loner"
The best characters and character development in gaming. Also, some of the worst voice acting ever that makes you hate said great characters.
>liked for being the "Bad Ass Uncaring Loner"
The irony is that Cloud is absolutely not this
6 is god awful
Good thing Japanese devs use English language conventions
>The best characters and character development in gaming.
>waaahhhh my dad's a slug monster that's gonna destroy the world
>I'm gonna bitch and be a total jackass for 20 hours while the character with more grounded motivations marries the most obvious villain of all time
It’s linear and there used to be a dumb meme that linear = bad game
Also dumbass youtubers dunking on the laugh scene and missing the point
I’m playing through it right now for the tenth time in my life and hating every second of it
Because 80% of people realize it's shit, but 20% of people realize it's shit but pretend to like it for You's.
Why
>worst voice acting ever
Do people still not get the laugh scene
FF8 IS a masterpiece, but you need a fairly high IQ to like it.
>wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?
>this is supposed to endear the characters to the viewer
You just described the entire series. Final Fantasy fanbase always looked like a mix of nostalgia and stockholm syndrome to me.
Squall is the most relatable FF MC
>9
>not divisive
People tend to leave it alone even though it's slow and the characters/plot are incredibly shallow, but the recent influx of obnoxious fans hailing it as one of the best ever has caused lots of folks to take notice of it's glaring flaws.
The actual problem with FF8 is that's it's piss easy even by FF standards
I liked 6,7,10. Didn’t like 9 and 12
brainlets got filtered by the hahaha scene
I'll never not be mad
For better or worse, it features a lot of series firsts and is a clear cut turning point in the series in many obvious ways.
It's also a follow up th the most popular and jerked off over era in the series and doesn't measure up on a lot of ways.
This is what happens when you drink from plastic bottles.
Originally didn’t like FF8 a lot then it came out because I felt like it was a high school soap opera. Later realized it was top five most realistic well written games I’ve ever played. Also started to want to fuck Sophie.
