7 is only divisive because of the stigma of being "the greatest game ever" that was attached to it. Most people would still agree that it's a good game at the least.

Vaan is the only thing people unanimously complain about with 12.

This, the game has a lot of bad design and writing decisions that are directly this man's fault, which were repeated with 13.

Tidus and Yuna actually mean sun and moon and it has nothing to do with tides or water

12 is pretty divisive.
Your main character isn't the protag,
The semi real time combat
The gambit system (hurr durr game plays itself/concentrated automation autism)
The job system.
The mmo style quests/sidequests.
Quickenings/chaining
That fucking weapon that you had to skip certain treasure cheats to get.
Badly signposted sideauests.

I still personally think its the best of that gen of ff games. Beats out the linearity of 10 13 any day.

For better or worse, it features a lot of series firsts and is a clear cut turning point in the series in many obvious ways.

It's also a follow up th the most popular and jerked off over era in the series and doesn't measure up on a lot of ways.
