I don’t know, I’m enjoying it so far but I haven’t reached the final boss. Honestly the game moves so fast that I haven’t really noticed the supposedly dated graphics, but I think the sound design is worse than Doom 2016.

From the gameplay loop standpoint, it's better than Doom 2016. All your weapons matter, the enemies are fiercer and more numerous and the game gives you more tools on how to deal with them. I think the soundtrack is better too. The slayer gates are better than the rune challenges.

But they broke any immersion factor they had with the game, the GUI is literally the meme people spread. The game has a lot of fat that needs to be cut out and everything they added that wasn't essential to the gameplay loop actively takes you out of it and is more distracting than worthwhile.

No, they don't. You're forced to use them because they gimped the ammo count across the board. If ammo count wasn't shit, the shotgun with sticky bombs could carry you a long fucking way through the game.

This is subjective, but I disagree. It sounds like painkiller, not doom. It's not really a bad thing I guess, but it's not better than 2016 to me because it just makes it sound like a different game.

These are my biggest problems with the game. I'm sick of having to deliberately miss shotgun shots to stagger minor enemies instead of outright killing them. You can't melee most of the time to stagger a zombie because your blood punch is up and it just pulps him and you don't get shit.

Oh and if you accidentally click the kuck armor you can't take it off.

Gimping ammo wasn't the first solution I'd recommend. However in Doom 2016 you only needed maybe 3 weapons at most to carry you through the game and I never used the chainsaw or BFG. I mostly used the shotgun, SSG and seige cannon One of my biggest complaints about 2016 was lack of weapons balancing and Doom Eternal addresses it in some fashion and once you get used to using the chainsaw, ammo isn't nearly as scarce. The problem is that the game gives you a powerful weapon (combat shotgun) which has gimped ammo to compensate for how destructive it is as your first weapon, so you're constantly wasting shots on weak shit that the 2016 pistol or proper melee should be taking care of. However, that issue basically goes away once you get the heavy cannon and learn how to use the chainsaw more often.

One thing I would fix though is having the melee actually do damage. The blood punch is a nice addition but give back melee to clear out zombies at least.

Not him but the plasma rifle usually ends up exploding everything to chunks even though I just single-tap them. I had the most success with the rifle, but it would sometimes also kill them.
I really don't know why they couldn't just have left the one melee hit to put a zombie into a glory kill state thing in.

I have played throug the entire campaign up to Nekramol II or whatever using only the sticky grenade launcher, arbalest, and the occasional BFG shot. Before I got the ballista I used standard plasma fire a couple of times to overload the tank guy’s shields.

I dicked around with super shotty but (as expected) it sucks
I used the sniper rifle like once to test out the weakpoint thing and immediately stopped when I realized you could trip weakpoints with sticky grenades
I’ve literally never even fired the chaingun or rocket launcher once.

Ammo is so easy to come by with the recharging chainsaw and the perpetually spawning ammo pinatas.

It does, but it's a paltry amount. You have to melee about 20 times to get a zombie to stagger. Dashing into an enemy does more damage. I think they wanted melee's purpose to simply be to falter demons. I've done it to almost everything and they stumble all the time. For Zombies, I've found the Flame Belch and a dash into them is perfect, gets them right into stagger.

That’s what you get for using Super Shitgun. Combat shotgun’s sticky grenades always stagger fodder to flashing on impact before detonating; sticky at point blank for a guaranteed GK proc.

Well, not even that anymore.

Titans are basically primordial demons, they were there for Eons and the Icon is the most powerful of the Titans, as it continues to draw in souls just by being in the area. It's power warps reality and would cause the entire universe to fall into Hell, if it was allowed to consume the entire planet.

It’s so much worse. In 2016 you had a real cooldown on grenades so every shot had to count, making direct hits more challenging and satisfying. In Eternal you get five fucking sticky grenades before the cooldown kicks in; you can Blood Punch a cyber manc, unload all 5 into him, and just walk away while they go off and he dies. Omae wa shindarou.

Ballista is better balanced than Gauss though. You EITHER get the gigantic hitbox shockwave that rips off someone’s head when you fire over their shoulder, OR you get the gigantic damage guaranteed stagger shot, but not both, and the latter has a delay while the bolt explodes. Siege Gauss was a fucking eraser, point it near anything you don’t like and it fucks it inside out. Ballista is situational, you can actually miss bolts against heavy enemies when they move around too much.

You can also get the red barrel respawn skill and the red barrel drops ammo skill.

Bah no, that would make it worthless. As the game goes on, the sticky becomes less prominent, SSG is a better option for shells, not only for the immediate armor from the mastery, but it's damage is just better. The other guy is probably trying to use it from mid range. 5 grenades can just barely take out a Hell Knight. 2 SSG shots will kill it.

You are actually mistaking which of those things is doing the damage. The Grenades aren't the damage dealers, it's the Blood Punch. Weak point removal causes a lot of damage, so when you do it to a Cyber Mancubus, it's armor, plus cannons, of course five grenades is enough to kill it afterwards, almost anything is. Watch how much grenades it takes to take out a Prowler vs other weapons.

Run around shooting shit. Whenever ammo, armor or health is low (or ideally, the instant both have recharged) find the nearest pinata, belch-chainsaw combo, keep going.
