Has there ever been a more blunt example of a video game developer directly taking aim at their fans?

If this game came out today Yas Forums would FREAK and make threads about how Nintendo has been infiltrated by SJWs.

>just noticed the ponytail
I always thought it was part of his glasses

His design looks awkward and unnatural even by the standards of the game

Donte

But they wouldn't because nothing about this is socjus.

You underestimate their power

I've always fucking loved this portion of SPM.
It has to be one of the best written self-referential games ever.
It's the equivalent of Cleopatra's final speech in Shakespeare's play.

>a-a-anti sjws are just as b-bad!
fuck OFF

>HAHAHA!!! GOTCHA PEOPLE WHO SPENT TIME AND MONEY AND ATTENTION ON OUR PRODUCTS! Now please don't forget to buy Paper Mario Sticker Star and Paper Mario Colour Splash - exclusively for the 3DS and Wii U game consoles! We love our fans! :)
Nintendo fans are sheep.

You are allowed to poke fun at something without it being a personal attack you high strung autist

Shit like this, specifically this character and these scenes, are why Paper Mario became so soulless later. Miyamoto absolutely detested this shit with a passion. I hope the "fuck fans" was worth the franchise being trashed.

Attached: pickles.jpg (500x650, 212.83K)

And I'm allowed to poke fun right the fuck back when the game and franchise goes straight to shit.

But they are. I hear one named Carl Benjamin wanted to rape a british MP.

>taking aim at their fans
There couldn't be less overlap between people playing a Paper Mario game on the Wii and weeb VN faggots.

I think that was the point user

I love the Francis chapter. Its fun to laugh at myself for doing half the shit, and also wanting to fuck paper peach.

>Its fun to laugh at myself for doing half the shit
Same. Don't get how people get upset over being made fun of.

Austism is a terrible illness.

>game pokes fun at liking game soundtracks
>game has a bitchin soundtrack

I'm getting mixed messages

Sure you are, just be more funny

indubitably based

Would this scene be more controversial if it was used in Color Splash instead?

Is that question about message boards in the Japanese version or is one of those cases of localization team being assblasted over random internet criticism?

Boris? Well he is a hunk of a man.

do you really think that videogame discussion boards are unique to western culture?

Super Paper Mario was pretty alright, honestly. Dare I say good.

No, I ask whether that particular line was in the original game, moron.

I don't know, but I know 2ch is even more autistic than we are, so maybe.

I was gonna say he was more of a parody of anime fans and people that play overly weeby titles than Nintendo fans, but then I remembered that autistic Bowsette shit, and I think he overlaps just fine.

Nintendo didn't embrace otaku culture til the very end of the wii's lifespan. They had anime style games before but they definitely started doubling down on that crowd a few years after SPM.

There wasn't really any major overlap at the time though.

Excuse me? They targeted gamers. GAMERS.

Incredible that you took this so personally that you had to reinvent the whole thing as an attack on the consumer.

Gameplay wasn't great but I will always retain that Super Paper Mario has a super enjoyable story and great writing and is honestly worth playing just for it alone
It pulled off the "making fun of the otaku demographic" like a full decade before it really started to become commonplace and overused like a full decade later

>He doesn't know what Otaku culture is in Japan
>He's too young to remember media ever having jokes at the expense of nerds
>No the vibeogame from 2007 was looking into the FUTURE and is making a message about the evil gamer fascists. TRANS RIGHTS!

I'm going to assume you didn't know about this until Vinny streamed to either right?

I really really really like this image

In the original it says:
"Food fills stomach. Figures fill heart."
So yes, it's basically someone making an oddly specific jab and shamelessly smuggling it into a segment about the cringes of otaku culture.

You retards are mentally ill if you actually relate to this shit lmao

>tfw we'll never have a good Mario story ever again mainly because of this lizard fuck and someone on Super Mario Galaxy's dev team who had too big of a Rosalina boner

Gotta love how some salty localiser put in that line about "complaining about games I've never played".

I think the Kefka knockoff jester CLOWN WORLD fuccboi sending Mario to hell and Luigi becoming a super villain pissed off Miyamoto more than the otaku lizard.

This. Somehow perfect representation of weebs and otaku at the same time.

It was probably that, the otaku lizard, and the fact that most of the NPCs were just shapes with legs.

Not necessarily the game itself, but its marketing
>AND MAKE THE BAD GUYS CRY LIKE AN ANIME FAN ON PROM NIGHT
You all know

I kinda feel like SPM and TTYD were both ahead of their time in the writing/comedy department. Like, they aren't groundbreaking, but very fun and charming.

If anything people hate meta humor and a game poking fun at itself now cause it got overplayed in vidya, cartoons, comics, whatever. But in 2001? Fucking nothing had the tone TTYD did. The game was incredibly novel at the time, and when it comes to telling jokes, telling ones you haven't heard before is fucking important.

Then the weeb chapter in SPM, or hell the whole game. The writers and localizers were both on the ball with these games.

>Sonic mocks that shit
>Capcom puts out another 8 Bit Megaman that btfo's that crowdscam shit
The MN9 shitshow has replaced the TORtanic in my heart

SPM was massively underrated IMO

I tought it was Miyamoto literally getting paper cuts from the characters designs. Stuffs' more angular than a spike ball.

Nah, it was him not liking how they looked nothing like anything else from a Mario game. That was one of the things he hated. He also hated the writing and story.

Didn't Color Splash have a Gamergate reference? That was supposed to be comedy but it was just cringe. That was the nadir of Treehouse, plus the Doge references in Zelda games.

Gotta love some salty poster getting offended by it more than ten years later because it's still 100% true. Tell me, have you played the game you're complaining about?

>He also hated the writing and story.
I can kind of understand that considering SPM felt like a regular JRPG story that just happened to feature Mario characters.

I mean, I like SPM a lot but even I can agree that the character design isn't really great
While it works for some characters (I think Mimi and O'Chunks are good examples of it working), so much of the game just looks like random geometric shapes slapped together. Everything is so jaggy. I think the game wouldn't be as controversial if it featured some more standard Mario designs like PM64 and TTYD

Attached: 1560270031109.png (115x200, 24.24K)

I genuinely don't understand when devs pull the "fuck the fans" shit in terms of not making products people want. Paper Mario isn't exactly high art, you're not compromising your "vision" of your kid friendly platformer franchise by letting its niche JRPG spinoff have decent writing.

He told the lead developer of Sticker Star not to just do TTYD again. Everything else was on the director. Miyamoto doesn't even like Toad.

Far as I know there has never been much talk from him about any of the Paper Mario games or other Mario RPGs. He has however talked about how the storybook in Mario Galaxy literally had to be snuck into the game without his knowledge. He hates story in Mario but I don't think he's ever said anything negative about SPM (at least not publicly).

fuck off retard

There was a conspiracy of some sort that ended in a -gate name.

Much more likely to be a pun on Watergate, which is also where Gamergate got its name.

you fags are so much worse lol

I don't get why they leaned so heavily into the pixellation aesthetic.
He doesn't say anything about the Mario RPGs publicly because he's never been a huge fan of him. All he really does is make sure that it stays with his vision of Mario, and in the case of post-SPM games, reels the dev team back so they don't fall into the stuff that he dislikes again.

>not in a million years

This was based. Anyone who gets mad about this is only butthurt because it hits too close to home

That was obviously a watergate reference to anyone that isn’t a retarded game journalist.

not that user but SEETHE

Hit a little too close to home, huh?

They're right you know.

>video game developer

>Two seconds shitposting about a game on a message board
>Get some drone at Nintendo's localization team to not only obsess over you, but obsess over you to the point of making a "t-this is you!" insert that takes hundreds, if not thousands of manhours and money to implement.
Sure showed me.
Why do these people not get that sometimes doing this shit is actually fun?

arguing with Yas Forums.png

>defending a namefag that watches streamers

>the storybook in Mario Galaxy literally had to be snuck into the game without his knowledge
Koizumi told Nintendo Power that he presented the storybook directly to Miyamoto before putting it in the game. Presumably, he got permission to include it, even if Miyamoto didn't think it was necessary.

Because they're projecting. They're incredibly upset that they couldn't become real writers, and were forced to do monkey tier translation work for entertainment products because they don't have the technical ability to do the well paying stuff, so they scream and shout about EOPs.

if you actually feel offended by this or think it's accurate to you then you might want to reevaluate your life

It's not just that it's weird, it's that it looks so cheap and poorly done and nearly every character in a 'group' looks fucking identical.

Compare it to an actual Picasso, if they'd just straight copied characters from his paintings I bet it would've been better received. It's still just a bunch of basic geometric shapes.

I think they did it to drive home the idea of interdimensional beings feeling extra alien and weird.

>get called out for doing your job wrong
>respond with doing your job wrong
I've seen many localiations in my life in several languages but only amerifats have this weirdly compulsive need to fix the script so they can prove their own creativity.

>They're incredibly upset that they couldn't become real writers
Ah yes, exactly why they would spend years to become fluent in Japanese. Not so they could translate, but to write their own original stories in English. Makes perfect sense.

Which of the Francis quotes applies to you user? You can be honest here, nobody will know who you are.

I guess he was right on the money

Everyone knows the treehouse script for the original animal crossing is superior. Even the japanese.
