Animal crossing is not a game you marathon. It’s something you pop in for an hour or two then drop for the day and pick up tomorrow. You can’t look for a goal, you kinda just do whatever you feel like. There are objectives and stuff to do but it’s behind time gates to reinforce the idea that you aren’t supposed to play for a long time at once.

It’s mostly fishing and catching bugs to be Honest.

Just taking it easy. The game's selling point was having time pass by in real-time, and match the actual time of day, or time of year. Letting the game develop snow as real life enters the wintery months, or having certain fish and bugs appear at certain times of the year. You can fill out your catalog of fish and bugs, and donate them to the museum, and upgrade your house to the final upgrade, and fill it with a bunch of cool stuff, or fill out your item catalog. In more recent games, like this one, you can customize your town a lot more. Terraforming the landscape and rivers, bridges, pathways, moving houses and buildings, etc.
