You have to look at the cost/benefit analysis with fitgirl. If the game is like 37 gigs and it only cuts it down to 26 gigs so like 11gigs saved, it really isn't worth the 2 hour install time

In first world countries, sure. Third world countries, not so much. Decent internet is extremely expensive or non-existent. The different between 15GB and 5GB can be a literal week of constant download. And sometimes the caps are low as well. It's an important option to have available

I think the gimmick with repacks is that it 'saves' on download times by compressing the files to shit and then decompressing them at install. Probably pretty useful if you live in some second world pit with dogshit infrastructure

Actually I use it to save space storing the game, given I'll probably only ever install most games 1-2 times ever while they'll sit on my HDDs for a long time. But I wouldn't go this way with Doom, 2 hrs and the CPU wear is too much for just 10 or whatever saved gigs. Repacks are better for moderate sized games that can be taken down by a good amount, like a 20 gig game that becomes 10. Not a 37 that becomes 27

I understand your point but a 35% reduction is still pretty decent on a game that's already relatively well packed.

There are other games where the dev says "figgidy fuck it" and doesn't compress their shit very well, for one reason or another. Maybe loading times? Definitely beneficial to repack those. I've seen some go from 60gb to 25gb.

It may be 10 vs 10 but:
The issue is that for the 37gb game going to 27, it will take a lot longer to install. 20 gb going to 10 will not take as long and will be more tolerable.
