Sure buddy, get back to shitposting now.
>WAHHH THE GAME IS TOO HARD.
He should play on easy. And apply to become a game journalist.
eat a salad
He has ONE good point.
The fucking priests are not afraid of Doomslayer, instead they engage in the fucking terrible movie villain cliché banter that nobody ever fucking wanted.
Which is a shame, and a wasted opportunity. The writing, in general, is a shitshow all right - I would not mind most of it, because it's fucking Doom, I'm not playing for the story, but this one element - the cockyness of the Hell Priests - feels like a really, really missed chance.
With that said, the rest of the review reads almost like a troll posts.
tldr
It is bit cringe if everyone is afraid of Doomslayer. They created him, gave him power. They are much older and wiser than him. They are not canon fodder demons. There are things i don't like about Eternal. UI, it si less grounded and game force you to change weapons too much.
>waah it's too hard
>waah platforming sux
>waah it didn't fellate my ego enough
Holy shit this is pathetic
The priests are afraid though, they just don't immediately beg when you arrive. As soon as they're face to face with you the mask comes off and they're scared as fuck.
I actually scoffed at how they took the cheeky ignoring of the exposition dump in doom 2016, and then forced you to sit and watch it with control taken away in cutscenes in eternal. Just, lay that shit side by side and you immediately see the differing ideas in developing teams.
>It is bit cringe if everyone is afraid of Doomslayer.
The whole story and setting is absolutely fucking silly, so I hardly see that as a problem. The pure power fantasy they build up in Doom 2016 was a really fun angle: it's not particularly clever and deep, but if I wanted that, I'll go replay Pathologic 2 for the third time.
With how absolutely silly and over-the-top Eternal is, it feels like a wasted opportunity not to push this angle forward, it would only fit the rest of the silly tone the game has.
Again, these are really fucking trivial things, but given that every other thread on the game I see is nothing but mental breakdowns, I guess this is at least worth mentioning.
Yeah, but the cliché villain banter is just boring and stale as hell. And we all know the Doomslayer is going to fucking own them, the game makes no pretense of not being a game, so why not stick to the at least somewhat unique (in this day and age) theme and make them actually afraid from the start. The banter feels out of place even with the gameplay - their cocky remarks while you literally plow through their legions.
Khan Myakar or what ever it's called: it makes sense in her case, but not with the priests. They should have been pissing themselves from the start, it would be just more fun and fitting the rest of the tone.
You are an absolute fucking moron. Have you even played either of the games?
>doomguy socks monitor in 2016 to shut up the exposition dump
>doomguy kneels to the king in a cutscene in eternal
nah, didn't play either mate.
>Oh no, my enemies aren't afraid of me
KEK
The beginning of the game is a fucking shitshow.
You start with a bit of cutscenes, which is very noticeable when you compare it to Doom 2016's starting point. Doomguy apparently hangs out with Vega in a space castle but fuck me if I know how we got here, how long it's been since Doom 2016, or who the fuck is Makyr. Yeah I shouldn't care for the lore but if I must have some then the exposition could be a lot better.
You start the game proper and you realise your punch is literally incapable of killing a zombie. That's not good. Not good at all. Then you kill a old guy in another cutscene and the game actually starts. Gameplay is alright but story-wise it's a shitshow. Also Doomguy talks, nah.
>>doomguy socks monitor in 2016 to shut up the exposition dump
Only to be locked in an unskippable one fifteen minutes later, then again three or four more times through out the game.
The shift to classic cutscenes is a DIRECT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of the complaint that the exposition dumps in Doom 2016 were pace-breaking: making them classic cutscenes allows for them to be skippable without breaking the flow on repeated playthroughs.
It's nothing but them taking onboard the valid complaints, you fucking drooling mongoloid, and again: HAVE YOU PLAYED EITHER OF THE GAMES OR DID YOU JUST WATCH THE FIRST TEN MINUTES OF DOOM 2016 ON YOUTUBE YOU FUCKING MONGREL?!
cuck
>Only to be locked in an unskippable one fifteen minutes later
Yeah, but it's an elevator ride, it lasts maybe 30 seconds before the title screens
> then again three or four more times through out the game.
It's usually just the woman talking to you through a glass panel for five seconds before locking the exit behind her. Hayden's cutscene is the longest and it takes maybe 4-5 minutes.
He was playing it on easy.
They could've been first person and skippable, why do so many people not see this is a false dichotomy. Better yet the game could've not had cutscenes at all since it's fucking Doom.
The story is stupid and the game does not introduce itself very well. Frankly, I would say the game does not even start to shine untill you reach the Super Gore Nest.
Gameplay-wise, however, the improvements over the previous are so fucking insanely massive that all of that shit seems trivial. And a lot of the changes start to make sense retroactively. Like the cutscens (skippable, as not to break flow on repeat runs), lives (again, pointless on low-difficulty and first runs, vital on high-difficulty re-runs), melee being "nerfed" (to make space for the blood punch mechanic, that adds more depth to the gameplay) etc...
First impressions aren't great, and a lot of stuff that made 2016 a lot more coherent, atmospheric and immersive has been sacrificed, but mostly for very good reasons - and thank god for that.
>Yeah, but it's an elevator ride, it lasts maybe 30 seconds before the title screens
No, in the first chamber with the first energy cell, for about two minutes - then again at the end of the foundry, stearing at Olivia for a good two minutes, then again, at the Vega terminal at the beggining of Argent Facility, then again, when meeting Samuel Hayden and once again you fucking mongoloid:
WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT A GAME YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED?!
Answer that you bitch.
>WAAAAAAAH THERE'S NOT ENOUGH AMMO
>game gives you a recharging chainsaw to farm zombies for ammo with
What did he mean by this?
>They could've been first person and skippable
99% of them are in first person and why are we stuck in this loop: Why are you people talking about games you never played - trying to defend something from a game you never played while shitting on something from another game you never played? What the fuck?
Zoomers are retards. Imagine playing Doom 2016 to completion, loving it, picking up Doom Eternal, and then forgetting the most important mechanics: Glory Kills and Chainsaw ammo spam.
>I'm a big DOOM fan
>This game isn't like DOOM 2016
Everytime.
>complaining about story in fucking doom
>complaining about ammo when you have infinite saw
Even on nightmare you can kill arachnotron with 3 sticky bombs. The fuck?
What clock are you using.
One that tells me that whatever the time you spend locked into exposition in Doom 2016 is a lot less than the less than a second it takes to press R to skip in Eternal, you dipshit. So any fucking one.
Wut ? I'm on Ultra-Violence and it takes way more than 3. I'm not aiming for the head all the time tho
glory kills suck
ZOOM sucked and I imagine ZOOM 2 is even worse
eat a lead salad
>It is bit cringe
The entire game narrative is already that, the least it could do is never falter from the power fantasy angle
>NOOOOOOOOOOO I HAVE TO MAKE MY SHOTS COUNT AND USE THE CHAINSAW EVERY NOW AND THEN IF THERE'S NO AMMO PICKUPS AROUND 2016 IS BETTER MOMMY HELP ME
so is the new game good?
It's fantastic.
If you like actually deep combat then yes
>The demons aren't afraid of me!
Is this really why faggots play nuDoom?
Nice selfie lmao
Clearly some retard who didn't play past the first half hour, the game constantly dick sucks the slayer and how fucking bad ass he is. There's messages where people basically start WORSHIPING the slayer as the fucking savior. >m-m-muh ammo
Learn to use the fucking chain saw which is a nigh infinite source of ammo?
The game has the same issue as previous Doom game, where it's harder in the first levels when you don't have the upgrades and arsenal to boot.
I was a big 2016 fan and felt weird about this new one. Was thinking about a refund until I got the to the first slayer rune thing and I'm hooked. It's a bit of a mess with 4 meters and abilities and bad platforming but honestly just jumping around killing shit is good enough to make up for it all.
>Literally not even pretending he played the game and just screenshots the review he was gonna plagirise
Wtf is wrong with this board?
Tbf a lot, myself included, hated GKs so we didn't use them.
GKs and Saws ruin the pacing, I'm a bit disappointed that they're needed for ammo again in 2020
Gameplay-wise, it's fucking amazing. But it's a rather specific experience, and can be easily divisive. Pretty much anything outside of the gameplay itself is iffy as hell - the game has a pretty weak opening overall and absolutely gives up on maintaining any semblance of coherency or seriousness, so if you like a more immersive, atmospheric type of games, it's not for you.
Also, the gameplay is arena-based combat with quite a heavy reliance on glory-kills and cool-down based abilities, interspaced with pure platforming. If you are looking for something like Dusk or Amid Evil, Eternal is not that - it has it's own very specific and unique rythm and structure, which you are either going to be open to, or not.
If you are open to the structure, it is really, really good at what it does. It's very fast, very challenging, and has a LOT of intricacies and depth in addition to being very, very involving. Plus it has a somewhat gleeful air to it which I like, it's very unapologetic: they know what they want, they know it's silly, they know it can be ton of fun, and they stick to it.
Which is kinda admirable in this day and age.
Only people complaining got filtered
I hated the first hour and now i'm in love with it.
Though marauders suck fucking dick.
>just use the chainsaw
>just use the glory kill mechanic
"No."
Yeah, I think a lot of us have a similar experience. Though I can't say I was a big fan of 2016, I did have fun with it, and the first few hours with Eternal made me scratch my head a lot. I think the game both does take some unexpected risks (which is good) and does a poor job of introducing itself (which is bad).
Once you get past the initial wave of confusion over the seeming bloat, get used to it and just accept that some things are going to be very different from 2016 (or most other games for that matter), it starts to be really fun and it does not stop being that.
Game filters a lot of people who are bad at FPS
Eh, 2016 was better.
he's not wrong about anything he said
thats a really bad comment.
It's enjoyable but shallow. Dynamic difficulty is pretty aggressive, enemies stop attacking you at low health (even on nightmare).
> I HAVE AN OPINION twitter level post
Kek
Did the whole beginning of the game heavily remind anyone else of Halo 2 or what, I kept calling the priests the prophets absentmindedly, they even ramble through giant holograms and say pretty much the same shit.
First 2 hours sucked balls. Once you start unlocking all the weapons, mod's and skills it starts to get a bit better. The games overall progression was not designed very well. It seem they designed the game's encounters around having all your abilities unlocked but then just removed them and threw some lazy shit together. Too much fapping about with shitty "Lore" and not enough thought put into good level design. The best part of the game are the Slayers gates. The fan service would have been much better if it where played straight. The "LOL WE SO SELF AWARE" 4th wall breaking is a bit cringe.
I speculate the jumping puzzles are likely just there to slow the player down to mask loading times on the ageing current-gen game consuls.
the combat is the most fun i've had with a first person shooter yet, but a lot of the environments and the way the story is told kinda gives me a bioshock 2 feel
all I see is WAA WAA WAA, stop being a bitch boy OP and maybe one day, you'll finally be good at something
>frognog
