not really, oblivion does a lot of things better than skyrim but i'd rather play skyrim any day if i had to pick between the 2
Level scaling is too fucked to enjoy.
In almost every way yes.
This really fucked you over if you didn't do efficient levelling.
Very true
Oblivion had SOUL
Based
not really unless you absolutely suck
Based
Elder Scrolls leveling is messed up entirely. It was shit in Morrowind too, it just wasn't as bad since there was no level scaling. The whole system should have been reworked entirely.
Skyrim unironically has better environments and locations
Oblivion has the most memorable sidequests out of any ES game
Oblivion is awesome, man. Sure it's dated now and has some flaws but I can't think of anything better than chilling out after a hard day's work, sitting down to play Oblivion while the house is warm and you can hear the rain beating at the window. Add that sweet soundtrack and almost painted looking world, comfy as fuck.
>Oblivion with level scaling removed and character overhaul plus better textures
>that super autistic mage tower dlc mod that feels like a legit expansion
unironically the best elder scrolls experience fuck skyrim and fuck morrowind
I prefered it when there were some enemies that scaled and some in other areas that were set. It really drove home the idea that for some areas you really should come back later, felt like a bigger achievement when you did too.
Look at this Based boy here.
They're both shit, but Oblivion has much better quests. And the voice acting is a tiny bit better. Those are the only differences. I love them both so much.
>slightly older thing better than slightly newer thing!!
IT's because of nostalgia you fucking faggot.
>b-but it can't be me!!! It only counts when it's everyone else liking shitty old things!!!
Whodunnit is way up there as one of the best in the whole series.
Nah, Skyrim's a lot of fun and easier to pick up and play but just doesn't seem to have as much character in a lot of it's quests. Plus Oblivion's music is the most chill out of any of them.
Oblivion is where the lore started to shit itself but the atmosphere was comfy as fuck. I would rather do a moded survival play through in Oblivion then Skyrim.
What other mods do you run?
Haven't played Morrowind that much because I was too young to give a shit, now I'll go full autismo on it and go through every little thing it has. Don't give a shit about graphics or dated mechanics. Its atmosphere is all I need.
Played Oblivion so much in 2000s I don't think I can ever go back to it. I loved it, really, just not sure if I can be bothered to go through it again after literally living in it for a long while, especially with a huge backlog of games that I have an interest in.
And Skyrim, well, I dunno. I can't say I dislike it, it's just that for some reason I get bored with it rather quickly. It just feels bland and watered down in every aspect. Mods help a lot, yet something's just way off about the whole thing.
New Vegas blows the fuck out of it all and it wasn't even made by Bethesda though :^)
It is so utterly disappointing to me that Skyrim gets so much praise. I genuinely feel bad for people that enjoy it, it is such a shallow fucking game. How can they enjoy it? I just don't understand..
>ponder about reinstalling Oblivion
>get reminded of the boring setting and awful scaling
>play Morrowind instead
>get oblivion on 360 as a poor middleschooler
>play it to death throughout high school
>get a PC at 22 or so
>want to try out some mods
>spend a few hours modding
>start game
>its still the same game ive overplayed and know every in and out of, have no desire to play it
are there any huge landmass mods with quests like elsweyr for skyrim that, ignoring the rest of the game, would essentially give me something new to play? i feel like no matter how many quest mods could added to the base game, it would still be overshadowed by what was already there that i had played and is still burned into my memory
Skyrim is much smoother gameplay wise but but Bethesda have taken this odd stance where they want to "remove mechanics that are superfluous" (Todd's Words) by cutting down equipment slots, removing certain weapon types like spears and throwing weapons while keeping the dragging mechanic in.
So they keep removing this that many players think would be cool or should be brought back (such as a hand to hand skill tree for monk builds).
It would be if fucking xbox controllers worked on the pc version
Okay let's be real, who the fuck has ever actually used the dragging mechanic?
Now THAT'S "superfluous" and to my understanding, screws with the game's performance due to the physics involved.
Give Nehrim a shot, it's by the team that made Enderal
Yes i love the fact that no matter how much stronger I get enemies will always be as strong or stronger
me
>Okay let's be real, who the fuck has ever actually used the dragging mechanic?
are you serious? it's probably the #1 reason why their games are popular
Nah, not really.
>tfw started with Skyrim and can't fucking enjoy oblivion
What is wrong with me
Yes.
I'm guessing when you wanted to do things like drag a guy into a door and close it to make them freak out or send a body over a ledge.
It does let you goof around like that but it adds almost nothing of substance to the games.
I'd rather have the Morrowind mechanics over dragging if that's what you mean
what don't you enjoy, user? there's mods to fix most problems.
AIEEEEEEEE
>Garbage bin is better than a dumpster
Wow
>Skyrim's a lot of fun
How?
Bad quests
Bad combat
Bad story
>Not staying at level 5.
That works, or do what the Outer Worlds did and have items be static with some physics on bodies and such.
I found it kind smooth to play, enjoyed the combat most of the time and use of the perk system. I will grant you there are far too many fetch quests and some aren't great but there's good, interesting ones in there.
graphically yes, interest and atmosphere no.
My man
>who the fuck has ever actually used the dragging mechanic?
Like every playthrough.
Oblivion is super fucking dated. I played that shit loads as a young lad but now I would pick modded Skyrimjob over modded Oblivion any day of the week.
But would you actually miss it if it wasn't there?
>skyrimjob
Kek
Are you kidding? The elder scrolls series goes backwards in every release. They always remove something with the new ones and make you feel gimped. For instance in Skyrim there is no more athletics which means you're stuck going slow the whole game.
I would, it's fun to drag shit around and put buckets on heads. It's also useful for stealing.
Oblivion is so fucking empty once you go back that even modded at this point, skyrim has just as much if not more to offer. Oblivion looks like ass and plays pretty clunky (so does Skyrim but still). Oblivion just feels that old.
i love the art style, riding through the forests at night with a torch, the music, and when the sky started to darken the closer you got to an oblivion gate. i love this game.
>Oblivion is so fucking empty once you go back that even modded at this point
Not that user but I agree a bit. I just mode the game with environment and animal mods.
>never finished the game as a lvl2 CHAD
laffin
not only is it the only way to actually see your character progress in a "fun" way, but the lvl2gang makes the starter spec actually very important
just make sure to get a mod for creature spawns so you're not stuck on goblins, and update loot tables
presto - the most SOUL elder scrolls game ever created
I'm.. glad you have opinion, like, but... *sigh* I.. I just don't care :/
>muh mushrooms and black dirt so much more interesting
Forts and shit actually have varied exteriors with interesting shit. Oblivion it's just the same cylinder with a door
I think you've just played it too much. Skyrim feels that way for me.
Agreed. Oblivion is a much better game. But Morrowind beats them all.
>oblivion thread
>start up the OST
aaaaah those were the days
Scaling is why I don't play either games anymore.
I almost play Oblivion, but everytime I'm reminded of its limitations, it is way too unstable to mod to a standard like Skyrim, even Morrowind is better just because of OpenMW.
DON'T LEVEL
