Backward TT rules and, the first couple levels, heavy RNG.
Low level BG is very random, a few crits and you're gone.
because it's badly designed
first levels are too hard, then when you level up a bit it becomes to easy
It really isn't.
I'd say it's the opposite, you have to mod it to get a challenge.
HEYA
Bros not OP here, I am 23yo zoomer incel, playing Baldur's Gate 1 for the first time and I just have Durlag's Tower and the final mission left
I decided to clear every available content before going back to BG city to finish the main quest
Any tips for Durlag's Tower?
My party is like level 6-7
I'm playing BG1 for the first time right now and it's really not hard user. Just make sure you quicksave between fights.
And use your spells, Sleep is really good for big groups.
yes also Stinking Cloud
you can use it before fight if you know that there are enemies up ahead. (just reload quicksave lmao)
then finish everybody off with archer character
also fireballs
shame that most spells in this game are useless cause most of the time they don't work because of enemy having high bonuses to rolls
better to just nuke them
Decide to play iron man where you do not reload.
So if you suffer losses, they are permanent. And if your mc dies, delete the save
Don't do this.
The only hard things in this series is the Memegorgon (which you can cheese, or skip with a fucking scroll), and the fact that you have to stop and wait for your thief to detect traps every 10 m in some dungeons.
Just wanted to share this
This fight is quite challenging (this is main plot Iron Throne hq 5th floor fight.
But you can cheese it I discovered
Just literally go back downstairs immediately and defeat them in detail, not everyone will follow you if you do this right
>because it's badly designed
okay zoomzoom. just git gud and mommy will bring you some tendies.
Beamdog is guilty of a number of different crimes. Here are the major ones.
1. The Enhanced Editions are essentially a collection of free mods that had existed for nearly twenty years. Beamdog gathered them all up, slapped "Enhanced Edition" on it and resold it as a new product. There's very very little in the Enhanced Editions that wasn't already out there, and most of it is stuff you don't want (like obnoxious character outlines).
2. The games didn't sell so well and the originals were still far outselling them, even twenty years after their release, so Beamdog had EVERY digital distributor stop selling the originals and ONLY sell the Enhanced Edition. If you want to buy a digital copy of the originals now, they're "bundled" into the Enhanced Edition. Now these scumbags can claim sales from people just wanting to buy the originals as their own.
3. The infamous 600+ bugs on launch. The game is still riddled with bugs (as even a perfunctory glance over their forums show) but the fact that it took nearly two years for them to get a game that had been working fine for 20 years to reach playability after launch is telling of their wild incompetence.
4. This is where we get to the ones that really piss people off. Beamdog couldn't just remaster the game, they had to fuck with the content too. New dialogue for existing NPCs like Jaheira, Viconia, Safana, Kivan, et cetera was written in to make the characters more progressive and leftist friendly. Beamdog shills will argue that "adding content isn't changing content XDDD" but it is when the new content changes the core personalities of the existing characters. This is in addition to adding a slew of their own LGBT (hitherto there were none in Baldur's Gate) NPCs, all flooded with OP attributes and magic items to encourage people to play them despite their cancer.
5. Siege of motherfucking Dragonspear.
mad Yas Forums incel
>neera
>those sprite outlines
user you fucked up
Gotta play around a bit with the AI. Keep your mages far from the front line so they dont get randomly one shot by archers because you have Xan in your party and he has 7 con.
Neera is cute. She has a cute voice. Also, she kissed me.
Also I like the outlines
lmao fuck off retard you've never played pen and paper in your fucking life
low level D&D fucking sucks. it's ALWAYS sucked. BG replicates that feel pretty well, that "2-3 good hits from a rat and I'm fucking DEAD" feeling
kill yourself tranny
>Baldurs gate
>hard
Sounds like a bunch of game journos has to git gud.
Based.
Tranny that needs to die of corona.
Try killing yourself, that might help.
Is it? I mostly breezed through them as a 10 years old kiddy. The biggest exception was Draconis in ToB, I teared up from frustration like a bitch at that fight. Fuck that mutt.
>no reading comprehension
>bitching about nu-journalists
Oh, the ironing!
It's hard at first and after a certain point the game is so easy it basically plays itself
Really? I killed him in like 15 seconds, I had much more issues with those fucking floating eyes.
1. Pirate EE
2. NPC/dialogue removal patch
3. Tweaks Anthology
Is that so hard?
Trust me, roll as a Wild Mage.
Git gud
Protip: I never said the game is hard. Learn to read.
Never played Baldurs gate 1 and 2 but I think i would hate them because
1-From my tabletop experience, I fucking dislike early D&D so much due to the imbalance (wizards and casters being so superior ruin a lot of the fun)
2-I hate trying to manage big parties in real time. In RPGs I always like to control absolutely every single thing my dudes do and its just absolutely impossible in real time games like this one or pillars of eternity
dude just pause the game lmao
Stupid memebot.
tried that, pacing takes a nosedive, its clunky and worst of all its imperfect (once you unpause some actions execute quicker than others and there are windows of time when you are at the mercy of whatever the fuck happens)
If youre going to cheat you might as well use the console.
Because you've yet to taste the cheese.
Protip: even in BG2 with SCS, mages aka the only hard mobs cannot make themselves immune to poison even with 9th spells and melt from cloudkill wand spams, liches are the only ones immune to this but fall prety easily to False Dawn.
This is 2nd edition D&D Low level wizards are a joke, at least the ones in your party, while scripted wizards are overpowered shits.
because you have been tricked by modern AAA cinematic experience garbage into believing that you're good at video games, so even a marginal challenge seems really hard to you now
if the game didnt want me to do this, they would put some doors there and lock them or some shit
And they wouldnt put cheats in the game if they didnt want you to use them right?
you're a fucking retard
The outlines upset me much more than Neera. I wish you the worst. Goodbye.
And there lies the issue with real time with pause and the stupid APR shit.
>spends 15 minutes cheating the game engine instead of just using actual cheats
>calls other people retarded
I say it's not designed at all. The game relies on you knowing how to play D&D whatever edition it is to begin with, which is completely retarded.
RtWP is absolutely shit if it doesn't have D&D rules to use as a crutch, and that's become increasingly apparent with stuff like Tyranny
>NOOO YOU CANT FIND THIS CHARACTER ATTRACTIVE CAUSE IT IS NEW AND NEW BAD
Using D&D rules is not the problem, the problem is that you have to know them beforehand, otherwise you're screwed since the character creation screen. D&D rules are pretty extensive and the game doesn't explain shit to you.
>put points into intelligence as a wizard
>put points into strength as a fighter
This is seriously confusing character creation to you?
Game isn't hard just have a mage and use sleep to take out big groups then use charm when your fighting tougher higher level enemies which will let you take control of them and use their spells. Make sure to use Blindness to reduce the enemy's chance to hit you and defense. Then just get Haste and the rest of the game will be easy. ALSO give all your fighters bows since according to the rules they can attack twice per round instead of once like the rest of the weapons.
AD&D 2nd edition was peak role playing, had the best modules and settings. 3.X fags and 5e trannies STAY MAD.
Try to explain THAC0 to a newcomer and realize that Advanced D&D was pretty dumb system
>the problem is that you have to know them beforehand
>the game doesn't explain shit to you
There were some estrange things, made with paper, that contained weird drawings, symbols and pictures. They were called "manuals". Seems you were expected to do something dumb and choring like read them before playing. Luckily nowadays we have epic tutorials and youtubers/streamers.
>you have to literally study an entire book before playing the game
Yeah, that's bad game design.
*RETARD ALERT* WEE-OOOOOOOO-WEE-OOOOOOOOOOOOOO
THAC0 just determines how good your character is at hitting enemies with melee and ranged weapons, of course "fighters" are going to have the better THAC0. What you want to do is lower your THAC0 to increase your chance at successfully hitting things.
More like THAC0 is just plain counter intuitive, same for negative AC and saves being better, it's as simple as that.
BAB, AB, positive AC and saves are far more intuitive and easy to understand.
It's not even that THAC0 is super hard, it's just needlessly complicated.
At a certain point aren't their saving throws so high that status effects don't really work anymore?
that little thing on the right side of the gif irritates me
For the enemies?
Not really, especially since you can debuff their saves, Greater Malison for example alone is -4 aoe with no save which is massive, and you can put it before other disables in sequencers etc.
Some spells already come with built in penalties, aka the best disables like Chaos which is -4 by default, so that + Malison becomes -8.
Because these are all aoe enemies cannot protect themselves via spell absorption/deflection buffs too.
Doom is also another -2 with no save.
THAC0 is what gets so high in ToB for enemies that player AC doesn't matter much anymore.
YOUR saves however can become high enough that you easily tank all enemy spells, especially since there is no 1=autofailure when it comes to saves in 2e.
Korgan for example soon becomes a massive MVP due to his built in shorty save bonuses + berserk + gear bonuses that he can tank even beholders with no cheese while shrugging off all their disablers.
GIT GUD CASUL
>you've never played pen and paper in your fucking life
the cope is real
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
When you get to the chess board, make sure you have all your characters use fireball scrolls, fireball wands, and casting fireballs.
The same could be said about every single battle in BG1 except for revised Sarevok with mods
adnd is a mess for reasons way worse than THAC0, honestly. BG just trims away the absolute weirdest shit like demihumans having level caps lower than humans and most of them needing to multiclass into assassin to ever hope to hit level 20.
>a bit of a learning curve is considered bad design
spoken like a true zoomer
>ANYTHING NEW *MUST* BE INHERENTLY GOOD EVEN IF THE QUALITY IS ACTUALLY POOR!!!!!
The player never has to think about how thac0 works to play the game. You just need to understand that +2 is better than +1 and I bet even you can figure that out.
i didnt say that i just like a character that everyone dislikes and it makes people mad in every thread for some reason
