Mortal Kombat is currently being designed and developed mainly by the kids whose moms wouldn't let them play it because the TV told them it was too violent. So with no other knowledge of what made the games charming and fun, they're now creating it with their stunted understanding: "This game was so fucked up my mommy wouldn't let me play it and the angry talking heads on TV were scared of what it might do to someone's developing mind." Hence the lack of humor (or just flatness of the """humor""" in X and 11), the gruesome drawn out and poorly directed fatalities, and the female designs. I always thought they went a bit too far sexualizing characters like Mileena in the PS2 games, but it didn't bother me as much as these new designs do, because they were clearly made based on fear of backlash. Art made coming from a place of fear of a bad reaction is universally bad.
