>different swings with weapons damage differently
But I cant.

Ooh Ooh Ooh oh, Ooh Ooh Ooh oh

Well yeah.
Melee combat completely broke down in the last two titles because of weaving.

They all suck. At least when you finally hit something in morrowind it does damage unlike oblivion when you can wack a guy for 5 mins and he still has more than 3/4 of his health

I think it's kind of underrated in Morrowind. I always thought it was fun timing your hits and charges for blocks and staggering. Like doing quick hits with a 2h weapon to try and stagger an opponent, and while they're staggered that's when you do a fully charged hit.

you're wrong, oblivion had the best

>send him flying across the room with a sword hit
>unconscious
it looks good because of the ragdoll i guess but it doesn't really show the combat is good

still better than morrowind, babe

Morrowind does a terrible job of explaining to you exactly how important your initial setup of skills are(especially with preferred weapon skills in your majors so that you're not missing every hit) and makes your first real "fights" being against people with 50 points in unarmed that knock your teeth in and drop your fatigue to zero.

Like, the fuck were they thinking? Before you can play the game you have to do homework, as your very first choice makes and breaks your game for the entire playthrough.
Once over that hurdle its generally fine and the interesting effects that the later games lack are very enjoyable.

it would be better if it had agility and other effects like in Morrowind

Why do the ragdolls in oblivion look better than skyrim?

they float retardly but there is just something better about 'em
skyrim has finisher kills and enemies will buckle on their knees at a certain health threshold, and to me that gets old and feels janky

and your attributes influence rolls and combat in ways that make everything mesh together (well except speed, that one just sits by itself in a corner telling you to move slow or fast).

Modlist?

It felt like shit, threfore its shit. Skyrim's got the best combat in the entire series.

>not using ragdoll mods to make it more realistic

>realistic
i sleep

>talking shit about objective improvements you've never experienced
I cringe

you're probably not even using realistic gravity fuckin pleb

pipsqueak, your words are wasted upon me

not different swings, different attacks
slash, chop and thrust.
swords are fairly good at all three, but axes are used for chopping and spears are used for thrusting.

The issue is that which attack you use is determined by which direction your character is moving. It worked better in the older games where swinging your mouse dictated your type of attack. Though in morrowind you can just set it to use the weapon's best attack every time if you prefer.

do you know who I am?

>old furiously clicking m1 on an enemy until his bar stops being red is better than new furiously clicking m1 on an enemy until his bar stops being red

>click left mouse button and wait for stamina vs click left mouse button
idk chief

CUM NEREVAR

>want to roleplay an incompetent knight
>can't because all my hits hit and everyone is scaled to my level
This is why Oblivion and Skyrim aren't RPG games, but action adventures and also a reason why Morrowind has the best combat of the three.

you can miss on purpose idiot, it's roleplaying.

>first person stat-based combat
All of my yikes. The only game to do that in a non-gay way was Legend of Grimrock

NEREVARINE,
Vivec here.

Did you know that I CHIMMED while writing fanfiction about u?

>you can miss on purpose idiot, it's roleplaying.
No. It's larping missing mechanics in a supposed RPG game.

the RNG attacks and fatigue/magicka management serve to keep you engaged in what you're doing. It's not just cliking the button, you have to pay attention to what you are doing. The menu system is also heavily customisable and is perfect for use in combat, where you can simply click it open, switch your active spell, and return to the action.

In oblivion it really is just clicking to attack until the enemy dies, though you can also click the right button to block if you like. The consolized menus are a chore to get through no matter what system you use and it's not as efficient to change anything mid-battle

morrowind is trash

>build a bad character
>use weapon you have no skill in
>attack while exhausted
WTF WHY DOESN'T IT WORK?????

No

>Debate me.
You can't tell me what to do, you're not my mom

in morrowind you hit every attack, they just do no damage.

>drink 100 Fortify Agility potions
>become a ninja

>very clearly have no stamina
>nords have no short blade
>wtf why cant I do this?
wow its like you're not pretending to be retarded

HAHAHAHA
HAAAAHAAHAHAHAHA
no

They assumed it wasn't your first rpg my sweet summer child. You think that's rough, try rolling a party in any 80's-90's blobber.

Someone post the webm of the Redguard

>missing a fucking crab for 100 times
Yikes.

>attack enemy with 0 stamina in morrowind
>miss
>complain about misses

>attack enemy with 0 stamina in oblivion
>does shit damage
>complain about damage sponges

really makes you think

Did Lanza do it because he attempted to reach CHIM and it broke him?

morrowind was never good

>swing sword five times
>now so out of breath you simply cannot even graze an enemy standing perfectly still in front of you
oblvion did it better. the only time you should miss is if you the player misses as aiming strikes is not abstracted like crpgs.

That's David Hogg

Played all three, I feel like if Morrowind was more generous with the stamina bar it would be a thousand times better. Because i don't mind the concept that your shittier in connecting your hits with little to no stamina its just that the stamina system drains like fuck all t. high stamina build nibba

stamina drains fast only if you run and jump

Accuracy stats don't really have a place in an action RPG. Can you imagine what Dark Souls would be like if you could just randomly miss?

>Physically hit
>still miss because dice fuck you over
Gothic 1 came out around the same time and it has a superior system. A mix of action and stat based hit chance is a bad decision and it's very jarring. Morrowind is still a good game, mind you, but the combat system isn't one of it's strong points on a technical level at least.

Attached: Thinking Senko.png (526x432, 255.82K)

No shit, it also drains fast when you attack and uh oh you have to attack a lot for a while early to middle game and that drains a lot of stamina too and which means you have to attack even more which means either you blow a bunch of money on stamina potions or invest in the ultimate cheese that is alchemy for your none-magic dweeb builds its a system that just needs a little bit of a tweak to the stamina drain so more than half of the game is bearable in terms of combat

>action RPG

Elder Scrolls aren't action RPG

I'm gonna ask here.
Playing for the first time seriously, fucked around a bit in the past but the first time I didn't have the time and the second one I got addicted to Warband and dropped this.

What mods do I need?
So far I have Code Patch, MGE XE and Patch for Purists.

>this shit smells a little better than these other two turds that both smell godawful
Sure user, but they're all dreadful unplayable shit anyways.

what is it about bethesda games that makes them so soulless? Is it the garbage animations? Or is it the thrown together, we-didn't-really-try-at-all gameplay? It's all so wooden and sterile

I mean I get it, but plz don't be this retarded on purpose. If you read "preferred weapon" and couldn't piece together weapon proficiency, maybe go play Bing Bing wahoo

Even a pure mage should put a weapon skill in their major, which isn't directly apparent.
Putting a weapon skill as a minor still leaves it around 15-20 which can gimp you.
A pure marksman should have a melee skill in their major too.

Skyrim nigga

You just have garbage taste. Soul is the thing that makes TES games stand out
