Is it really THAT good?
Is it really THAT good?
Other urls found in this thread:
Yes.
Play it and find out. It's only available on everything.
Yes.
Probably the most well paced JRPG out there, and the most refined 16 bit one too.
Great controls, story, characters, universe, combat, etc.
it sure is but it could've easily been in big competition if Terranigma came through with a global-wide release.
It's pretty good.
Whatever you do, don't play the PS1 and mobile versions.
Yeah but play the SNES version the DS translation is soulless
This. Play the snes version.
PS1 version is peak soul.
Yes, what fucking moron ask a question like that?
>horrible emulated snes music chip
fuck off, DS version is far superior
Yes it’s one of the few games and rpg for that matter that has perfect pacing and doesn’t overstay it’s welcome
play either the ds or snes version, the only way to play it desu
peak loading times and bad port?
If you want the opening, you have it in the superior DS version.
IMO yes, but it makes less people play Earthbound so it makes me ANGRY
Steam version is great since it has been patched desu.
Way better than PS1 and the original mobile port it was based upon.
That ONE song, the most important song in the game sounds really bad on the DS
There are no songs in Chrono Trigger.
Yeah
Not as good as Chrono Cross but still good.
Not really.
mute main character that is your typical jrpg protagonist, lots of plot holes, character development s basically nonexistent barring Magus.
It was good for its time when standards were lower.
now it's mediocre at best. mostly kept up by nostalgia.
Don't play the Steam version
This.
>Not as good as Chrono Cross but still good.
Let me guess, you've played Cross before Trigger.
No and anyone that says otherwise like has shit taste. It's a mediocre overhyped jrpg only popular because it's backed by Square and DBZ. The combat system is fucking offensive in how bad it is, and overall can't hold a candle to other SNES rpgs or games that came out years later.
Thank god it's a game and not a movie huh
Why, because Frog doesn't speak Ye Olde Englishe?
>we'll never get Chrono Trigger remake with the budget of FFVII RE
Honest answer, completely untainted by nostalgia? No. It's not even in the top 10 SNES JRPGs. It's like a soft 6/10.
Yes, it is. Don't listen to the contrarians fishing for (you)s
I'm still MAD SE sent them a cease and desist order. This project looked so good even for its time way back in the early 2000s
Then why does the gameplay suck so much.
Honestly yeah. It holds up great. Amazing pacing.
>The combat is shi-
Atmosphere and music are absolute kino. It's a comfy, memorable experience. It definitely deserves the praise it gets. Shit, I might replay it soon, maybe Earthbound too, since I'm unemployed for the next couple months.
It's a RPG, though. role playing game.
not a shooter or rts.
a rpg is all about the characters and story.
He never was going to make it. It was all a scam.
I tried this got a bit after the court (I think).
I'm wondering just how the fuck does the new game plus work?
Does it load the last save each time I "end" it after I beat the game once or what?
I know my characters keep my level but I also know the final boss can be killed early on so if I chose that route, what happens? Load the save before hand or just carry on into a new game and start at the beginning with the saved character levels?
Im not a Cross hater but that is completely untrue
I played this game for the first time like a month ago it’s definitely 10/10
>It's a RPG, though
It's not, though.
yes.
Eyup. Played it a few months back and had an absolute blast with it. Robo a best.
You need to beat the black omen to unlock new game plus
>It's not, though.
>Chrono Trigger is a 1995 role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System that began the Chrono series
>role-playing video game
yeah, but except that and some sound effects is an excellent port, even some other tracks sounds great thanks to the virtual Surround from the DS.
Based.
Thread should have ended here. Anything oposed to this is just wrong.
Not really
FFVII is a lot better
This.
they actually fixed most of the issues with the steam version
They had plenty of assets already finished. They weren't even asking for money. This was long before the paypals and begingg devs of the world came on the scene. I know there were a few others doing a remake, maybe you're mixing them up
youtu.be
It's pretty mediocre for todays standards. The selling point is some unique abilities pairing up with others, and 'tImE TrAveL'
I found it underwhelming, but that was likely a result of people hyping it up for years. It just seemed like every other competent JRPG out there.
Yes it's shit. It's is a clunky hybrid of turn-based and real-time (ATB). Enemies pose no threat and deal a fraction of the damage the player character is capable of dishing out. There's almost no interesting spells or status effects, important debuff/buffs, every ability simply deals damage. Dual/triple techs are just boring variations on the same 'do tons of damage' or 'heal tons of HP' template. There's nothings that messes with Equipment-in battle, interact with terrain or change the very rules and mechanics of the battle, It's so bland and dull. Compare to any turn based games like SMT, SaGa, Xeno, Etrian, even Chrono Cross or other FF that use ATB, etc. It simply lacks enough depth and challenge to be compelling since you have no real customization, builds or skills which hurts replayablity when every play-through is the same each shit. There's barely any exploration, it's a time travel game that is somehow completely on rails. Your only choice is how soon you want to end the game by teleporting to Lavos which is the most disappointing aspect. There's no practical way to beat the game 'early' on your first run inb4 some lame TAS bulllshit, so you pretty much have to get the standard ending, then all the other endings are NG+ replay gimmicks that basically reward you for being over-geared at particular stages of the otherwise linear game. The gameplay is awful, you are a delusional blind fanboy if you can't see that.
OST is amazing
locations were cool
story is good and entertaining
difficulty is nice, hard bossfights and all that shit
so yeah, it was fucking good
The story still only serves as a context for gameplay. The atmosphere, themes and general red thread it provides are more important than some nitpicky plothole bullshit that changes nothing about the moment to moment experience.
Besides, no character development is a complete lie.
Both Marle and Frog's characters both get time in the limelight in the main plot, and the endgame sections takes the time to provide a sidequest for each character that allows them to grow.
What is this gif supposed to prove?
It has one of the best battle systems JRPG's have ever seen. Especially turn based. The combination attacks and constantly active battle system is incredible, and was unheard of at the time.
>breakdown on why the combat is shit in-depth
>n-no it's good I promise
The state of Triggercucks
What’s the best version of this game? Steam version?
Nice cope.
Nintendo DS.
Emulate it.
the combat is borring enough that its hard for me to replay now but everything else is top notch
My favorite snes rpgs are all romhacks now. FF6 is unplayable without brave new world, Sins of mana is incredible and FF5 Void Divergence is the system's goat
I like the movement but it dosen't really give it any depth
Not a argument
Marle doesn't really change though, as seen in the ending.
>early on
she fucks off from the castle to do her own thing
>end
she fucks off from the castle to do her own thing but says sorry first.
Frog gets a little, but they pretty much all revolve around Magus and his reason for accepting him joining later on.
Robo gets backstory, doesn't change anything. Lucca's past is revealed, doesn't change anything. Ayla basically just exists. Crono gets more development than those three and he has no lines of dialogue besides the sparse choices.
Look, the guy's too stupid to see that he's mostly praising the game for cool looking animations that happen to be able to hit different groups of enemies defending on how they're positioned at the time but which otherwise require no forward thinking whatsoever. Cut him some slack.
no, it's terrible because this doesn't happen
DS>Steam=SNES>>>PS1=mobile
It's good but not THAT good, ATB sucks in general.
SNES >
Emulation>DS>Steam=SNES>>>PS1=mobile
Why would it? Theres no indication Ayla and Marle are related.
This.
>There are people who unironically think the Chrono Trigger DS port is worse than the SNES version because of the "LEL QUIRKY YE OLDE ENGLISH FROGGIE!! XD"
