I'm STIIIIIIIIIIILL alive
Catalyst was fucking shit.
Also they never released the cool song from the teaser youtube.com
it's almost like style over realism ages better or something
What the fuck OP, I literally just finished my yearly playthrough of Mirror's Edge like half an hour ago.
>graphics are almost ageless
I don't know, the lighting is pretty shit so almost everything was pre-baked. But I guess Mirror's Edge is a good argument for smoke and mirrors (no pun intended) because Catalyst looked ugly as fuck with real lighting.
What song from the teaser? This one? youtube.com
no, the one I posted.
I wish i had the money to buy it on GOG.
just pirate it. ea doesn't care about it anymore after the shit sequel and the game's 11 years old anyways.
>real lighting.
all lighting engines are shit. it will be better to not use them in every case for the next thirty years, and thats being generous.
We STILL have those shit bullshots where sunglare covers 80% of the screen as if the main character is looking out a fucking movie camera, and retards go "wow graphics"
What do you mean "never released"? This has a download link or you can just take it from the video
youtube.com
Holy shit this is disgusting
I'm still mad about not getting that song.
I actually appreciate Catalyst's existence because it gives me so many great examples of how game design is getting more and more retarded
I really fucking agree, its one game that was truly ahead of its time in terms of visual aesthetics. Shit, if you even had told it released this gen I wouldn't doubt you.
>tfw you know realise the devs who worked on it are probably gone now
If anyone here played the old TF2 mod, some people have gotten it all fixed up and working again.

AHHHHHHHHHHH TURN BACK TIME NOW
>its art style and graphics are almost ageless
too bad the gameplay sucked ass
Gameplay was great, git gud faggot
I gonna have to disagree hard on that one.
Why is Chapter 8's final section so fucking fun to play? It's exactly what people dislike about the game (forced combat section where you practically need a gun to stop the machinegunners) but for some reason it's really satisfying to plan out your route, goomba stomp the goons, and just speed right through to the end door
It takes like 15 seconds to get to the bottom if you don't follow the stairs. Simpletons just assume they have to shoot their way out or if they try to do a non-lethal run they suck at hitting that reversal window. The game reloads really fast and it's short as fuck in general so I don't know why people get so mad when they keep dying
I CANNOT APOLOGIZE
Non-lethal at the final room is hard af.
Was finishing up a playthrough a couple of days ago. Legend of a game
Catalyst was surprisingly bad. Unfortunate. At least they tried, knowing it wouldn't sell well enough to justify its own existence.
user can you dump all of those wallpapers on a gdrive or wetransfer? They're amazing
>that combat focus in the Catalyst teaser
Glad I didn't even try it
These images just make me sad there will never be a sequel that will do the game justice. For a brief while EA actually managed to create some unforgettable games.
Mirror's Edge would be the perfect game to remaster using real-time raytracing.
I love Catalyst. It looks good. But yeah it's shit compared to the original Mirror's Edge. This game is something else man. The only Western game with style
Nu Faith a cute
does this game scale up to 4k? thinking about installing it again on my new pc
Man I hated Catalyst
>Hey do this challenge
>Take a thing from one NPC standing on a roof to another NPC standing on a roof
>They're practically within sight of each other
>Oh sorry you were 1 nanometer away from them and the timer ran out, guess you failed
It was just terrible game design
Catalyst was literally just more of the same. Yeah ME had better and more pure design but MEC was pretty much the same thing. Just ignore the nothing story
They turned Faith into a ugly mutt mongloid in Catalyst.
the opposite is true. ME had great static lighting for levels you beat in 5-20 minutes each. To make it look better you'd need higher res textures and higher poly models. Ray-tracing is for doing that kind of lighting in real-time and with the current hardware you'd end up barely breaking even. You'd have inferior bounce lighting but better shadows and reflections. Not worth it. Real-time ray-tracing is for open world games (day night cycle) and night-time settings with a ton of dynamic lights. An open world Star Wars game might be the perfect candidate although that recent Dark Souls clone already looked quite good with just rasterized everything.
Thanks man! I selected the best looking ones
wetransfer.com
that's a pretty bad remix
i have corona virus user, is that ok
I dont understand whats so bad about prebaked lighting and bumpmaps and why they are so underused in vidya
as long as you dont have something else or are too old you'll be fine. Take care user

Why does everything in this game blend so well together?
Dunno man, sounds like trash.
Something about the first game's OST really gets to me. It's not just that I might have still salvaged my life at that point and there was still hope left. Even back then something about it seems to remind me of something but I can't tell what it is that I'm supposed to remember.
Dunno, maybe it's because I was depressed and lonely even back then
youtube.com
You dont understand. Everything needs to be real time because reasons
Friendly reminder that good lighting is the single most important graphical component in a 3D game. If lighting is good, a game can age surprisingly well. FEAR, Thief 3, Metro 2033 etc are all examples of games with great lighting that aged well.
Mirror's Edge's lighting is a bit glary and borderline unpleasant, but it has still aged superbly because that.
Prebaked lighting is underused because it only works if none of the scenery moves, which means you can't load the scene with a gorillion physics objects like nu level """"""designers""""" do.
>all the css servers I played regularly on are dead including the zombie escape server I spent over 100 hours on and had this map
Have you tried playing it recently OP? It runs like SHIT now cause of its shit compatibility with windows 10 and being a game optimised for XP/Vista
I want a new good game.
supporting a gorillion physics objects is great. it's just that contemporary games don't DO anything with all that potential. Oblivion, Crysis, Dark Messiah had the same level of interactivity as modern games and arguably did it better. After that only Battlefield's destruction can be seen as another step up. Where is the next level of physics gameplay? We can only hope that the limited single-thread performance of the current consoles is to blame and we will see a resurgence with the new Ryzen-based consoles freeing up some performance that doesn't go exclusively into graphics.
Set them all as rotating wallpapers... Got any more? They're so good.
I love the concrete and the colour, this game is so fucking pretty.
I remember seeing this game for the first time back in the day. Was walking through the mall and on the vidya store there was a monitor with the trailer running, had to watch it like three times.
