yeah, too bad 2 isn't great. Gonna play NA release but the style and soul that 1 had isnt there even if the gameplay in 2 is better.
old games are trash and pso is no exception
its a little late into its life span and needing a sub to trade items/sell is stupid.
Yep, waiting for PSO2 to launch on PC. I've tried to get started in the Japanese version a couple of times over the years but it never really clicked for me.
i was pretty hyped for the english release but bailed when they censored character height
PSO1 is one of my favorite games of all time.
PSO2 looks interesting, but I'll probably drop it once I get to max level and the only thing to do is grind EQs over and over.
Two decades later and I still play it every now and then. I have reached maximum autism and now I use the server emulator to fuck around with it, like changing how sabers works and giving them sword animations. it's a bitch to use because the donation cash wars is real and nobody likes to share shit.
It's literally a 10cm difference
It's "literally" censorship.
Pretty sure you weren't interested in the game in the first place if such a petty change was enough to deter you
Ok.
What a brave hero.
I'm trying to but I don't think I get it.
That's fine.
It's definitely a grindy game. You're either going to play it for the aesthetic and the atmosphere or not bother at all. The background in the game is great; the whole laser-sword and fantasy is neat but depends on what you like.

As for the combat and controls, they're a bit odd but rather nice if you can get used to them. Attacks have a hit% but also a distinct range on the 3D models, meaning you can actually move around and avoid attacks that way. Except against magic. Combined with the hitstun you can deliver with weapons and enemies needing to face you to attack, combat can be fun controlling enemies. At least, when you aren't missing half the time. But as I said, grindy game.
The later games in the series certainly improved on that.
Having high enough ATA so you aren't missing like a blind old man and a good Battle unit makes PSO's combat surprisingly fun.
151cm is still loli high.
I did well with a basic HUcast, although using a polearm for crowd control was a bit risky. I'd assume a shot RAcastal would supposedly work, at least at high enough levels. And a close enough group.
Is starting off as a Force supposed to be pretty slow?
Its rough having to restock on tp fluids constantly.
Yeah, it doesn't help that magic level is limited to item drops only. I guess that is why the game says that Forces are for "advanced-level" players.
It eventually gets better, but often you will find yourself relying on weapons of other classes (later in the game you will find some hunter/ranger weapons designed for forces).
Yes!
I wish I was intersted in PSO2, considering how much I love the aesthetic and music of PSO, but I just can't. I liked the slow rhythmic combat of PSO1, 2 looked way to fast and I think I saw someone air juggling or jumping like 10 feet in the air and it just killed any interest I had in it. Also I know they were a thing later in PSO1 but I hate oversized weapons.
>pso2 soiled female cast designs
what's the point
>it's a bitch to use because the donation cash wars is real and nobody likes to share shit
???? what
I'm probably the only one that prefers it when it was implied Racaseal faces couldn't make expressions and were always in that same neutral look. Really rustles my robo-jimmies to see them virtually indistinguishable from fleshbags in PSO2 aside from greebles hanging off the body.
I love Phantasy Star, and I've been playing it since I was a kid. Bought an Xbox One X to play PSO2's western release. Shit's fucking fun.
PSO1 was my childhood, I spent my entire teenage years playing the game on Dreamcast. Even had such a nostalgia rush that I decided to make a video about it on Youtube. One of the greatest video game series ever.
For me, I just think it looks too muted in color in its art design, and I also in general hate how it looks like generic modern anime in its character design IMO.
Sure, PSO's character design was also reflective of 90's anime trends, and PS is ESPECIALLY generic late 80's anime art style in a nutshell, but I feel more okay with those maybe because I wasn't as familiar with otaku culture then and weren't so cynical about the style choice.
If I saw more screenshots of PSO2 that looked like pic related i'd have been more interested.
Forces always are wildly unbalanced in the PSO games. They're either next to useless or vastly better than other options. Unfortunately, in PSO, it's kind of the first in regards to a lot of bosses. I don't recall if PSO Ep.4 changed anything, but with the Dreamcast/Gamecube versions, your Force was basically a buffbot and good luck getting past Dark Falz without vastly overleveling for the fight.
Restocking TP fluids isn't actually too bad. As long as you're bringing in more meseta than spending, you're doing fine. It's vastly superior to trying to use a TP-draining weapon and slowly building up to a full TP meter that way. I'd recommend learning the combat just a bit so that you can kite enemies better, and hit them from behind. Once you can throw out good area spells then fights get a lot easier.
Getting the teleport spell will vastly help with restocking, too.
I agree 100%.
Caseal are great and all, but the fact that this chart uses something relatively obscure like that rather than a Soroyama robot is a mistake.
Agreed as well. I get the whole "advanced technology and in the future" bit, but the whole idea of them being robots and looking like robots was part of the appeal. Plus, it helped the series stand out in appearance. Now they just look like generic anime girls with some random lines on their face.
>Does Yas Forums like
Yas Forums doesn't like anything, it only pretends to
never played a phantasy star... what game should i start with? i'm thinking the psp one maybe?
I like you user.
Yes. It's way too bad that pso2 is an absolute dumpster fire of a game.
FUCK yeah
played a lot of PSO back in the day
lobby theme, main menu and settings are best themes
loved the PSP games as well and I miss a game like that
Do you want one of the PSO games, or one of the classic Phantasy Star games?
For classics, PSIV is probably your best bet. PSII was long, slow, and grindy, and PSIII was pretty bad. I didn't play PSI to give a good opinion of it, though.
For the PSO variety, the PSP games (Phantasy Star Portable) are good choices. They have a lot of the improvements throughout the series, but aren't considered as generic as PSO2 frequently gets called. They're also lacking the stiffness of the original PSO games, and the cheesiness of the PSU titles. Although people will still nostalgia over the older titles.
Reminder that the Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity translation is almost done

Got any more?
>tfw played it fucking YEARS ago
I laugh at you EOPs.
I hate whoever decided casts can look 99% human. Phantasy Star aesthetics took a big hit by Universe overall, but that's one of the easiest things to point to that takes away from the series identity.
I've been playing it lately, pretty fun. Really enjoying EP2's music, and the lobby is cool. Fuck the VR temple though, that was terrible.
Played PSO2 too but quit soon after it jumped the shark. Shame.
Still waiting for
beep boop gun robot coming through
>Forces always are wildly unbalanced in the PSO games
Oh god, time for me to repost what I posted in a previous thread:
FOnewearl was the first class I really got into when I played PSO for the first time. And I got tricked, TRICKED! Tricked into thinking that late-game would be balanced and would allow me to play as an Attack Force.
>Pick FOnewearl
>"Highest MST potential!" they said
>Reach Hard, Hardest etc. difficulty
>AoE Techs are just outclassed by FOnewm
>Can't even one shot low level enemies with my supposedly boosted Foie/Zonde/Barta
>Having to consistently chug down Trifluids to even function
>tfw fluids are way more expensive than mates
>Have to halt dungeon exploration just to go back to clinic to refill PP to save money
>Lowest HP growth meaning even basic enemies hit like a truck
>"You have piercing Megids!" they said
>Most enemies are resistant to Megid so fuck you lol
Oh my god, FOnewearls got the short end of the stick in PSO. Still love her though, she's got the funkiest design and the dumbest cutest hat.
the open beta is on box but when does it hit pc?
ive played it already with the english patch but i wanna start fresh when its released.
I ship it.
Now *kiss*
i'll only play it if it goes on steam
is it gonna be on steam?
fucking this
clogging your inventory with fluids was dumb. why was the regen so garbage? why did you have to stand fucking still?
Yeah, Sega is certainly going to suddenly release a 20 years old online game on Steam. In English, too.
I remember being so freaked out by the Ruins dungeon in the original PSO. One of the few final dungeons in a game that managed to scare me.
>that eerie OST/BGM
>all those freaky enemy designs that look like disfigured mutant animals
>dark & oppressive atmosphere with trapss everywhere
>bits & pieces of flating jiggly worms in the air that look like weird parasites
>that alien colour palette
>dat final boss arena for Dark Falz
First time playing Ruins was such an otherworldly experience.
probably not. might have to download from SEGA's site.
you just click the exe and play, pretty much
i meant pso2, sorry
Dreamcast-era Sega was peak soul
I want to go back
Does the console version of PSO exist on PC? I just want to play PSO offline on my computer. I have shit internet so I don't want to play on the private servers, and hosting your own offline server was a pain and I couldn't get it to work right. Are the DC or Gamecube emulators playable with PSO?
well my answer doesnt change. the only thing tied to pso2 is a patcher that usually doesnt do shit. just download and click play nigga
I ended up just hitting things with my sticks as magic was useless in higher difficulties. v2 didn't really fix it that much either as you were still doing jackshit on Ultimate difficulty. Never think I made a Force of any kind in the GC version as I was scarred for life by that point.
What bothered me the most was that you know those rare equippable accessories that boosted your PP regen? I actually had a couple of them and equipped them into the dungeon, shit didn't help much. Even with those equipped it still regenes ssoooooooo sloooooooooowwwww. Like, seriously, a rare & supposedly good TP/revival unit
>wiki.pioneer2.net
still only recovers 1 TP every 11 seconds. The fuck????
shit dude i got 0 MST
i played pso on dolphin 5.0, it works just like it should.
Yeah, I think I'll play Portable first then. Much appreciated helpful user-kun
>Are the DC or Gamecube emulators playable with PSO?
Yes, they do. Dolphin emulator works FLAWLESSLY with PSO.
Poor Kireek.
>finds the Soul Eater scythe which corrupts him
>player gets multiples of them with no ill effects
Sucks to be a NPC.
Based huCHAD.
Realistically though, CASTs kinda suck for solo levelling since you can't cast Resta for heals or more importantly any of the buffs. CASTs are amazing for team work, but in a solo attempt one should just go HUnewearl.
Shame that most private servers are just grinding Towards the Future over and over. Even bigger shame that PSO 2 ditched a lot of the charm of previous games in the pursuit of being as profitable as possible.
the only reason force in pso is good was for revives and buffs. its honestly not too fun or interesting, but very helpful.
i played with friends and my damage was always a bit behind theirs, but when falz was shitting on them, i just mashed revive key lmao.
Cool, thanks.
neogaf.com
It just works.
I like the sci-fi character designs, but MMOs are irredeemable shit.
I used to play pso2 daily. Then I got a girlfriend. I still miss pso2.
I never got to play this online as I heard it wasn't active so I didn't bother paying the subscription fee and I was burnt out on regular PSO at that point. Game seemed like it would be fun if they dedicated more time to fleshing it out.
Original PSO was closer to being a Diablo game than an MMO, imho.
How was the pussy? Pretty good?
Is pic related's chad still around? I have never seen anyone else with this much playtime in PSP2i.
PSO is hardly an MMO. Literally the only place that can hold more than 4 people is the basic main lobby you can't really do shit in.
PSO2 is closer to one and does come with the full cancer package of an average modern MMO.
Wasn't even an MMO, it was a loot-a-thon like Diablo. There was no real persistent world other than the main server hubs and all battlegrounds were instanced with only 4 people at a time originally.
>heals and buffs you from across the map with mega range support spells
>does decent single target damage from a safe distance with Rambling May
>has the fastest shotgun, slicer, and card animations in the game
>blows up Dark Falz/Flow with buffed Grants damage
>best of all, looks classy as fuck while doing it
FOmarls are a treasure and are greatly underappreciated.
PSO2 is still more of a loot and shoot game than a MMO. Just that monetized the fuck out of it instead selling it as a full game. Playing the beta on Xbone makes me wish it was a 'real' game as there's so many times you go into a store menu and it's "YOU NEED THIS PASS TO DO THIS SHIT". You can't even put up a store unless you pay up first.
Always thought that art made her look pregnant.
