what went wrong?
Hollow Knight
Nothing
HK and WOTW are the pinnacle of modern Metroidvanias, they are so close to perfection for the type of game each one is trying to be it's unbelievable
Morons tried to play it and failed.
what the fuck is even the problem in that pic
Where is this complaint even from? Why couldn't they figure out something so obvious?
>obvious
only for platform/metroidvania veterans
why would you be playing this game if you're not into those genres...
god forbidden those fools that want to try new things
I've never played a game with mushrooms that bounce when you hit them and i figured that shit out immediately, what the hell dude
That’s an excellent question, what DID go wrong? Because I can’t think of anything.
>that pic
Whose this fucking retard that can’t jump on a mushroom to get to a higher platform? Has he never played a video game or used his brain on his life?
Disagreed. Hollow Knight was the only Metroidvania I've played, and I found that this was obvious
The game encourages you to attack almost everything... You need to even hit a bell to summon The Stag. If someone didn't figure out the bouncy mushrooms, then I genuinely wonder how long it even took them to get there
While the Vengefly King is an easy opponent, downward slashing is encouraged in that fight.
Attack everything: that is literally how the game wants you to interact with the world
>getting hit causes sensory deprivation that can set you up to get hit again when you come out of it
>geo bounces all over the goddamn place and can be a hassle to stop and pick up especially if you’re just starting and don’t know how much of it you need
>there is no option to save and swap charm loadouts
These are incredibly minor issues but they’re the only faults I found with the game.
I'm about 5 hours into this game so far. Every enemy takes like 9 million hits to kill and I've yet to find a single weapon vendor. It's starting to get really annoying fast, and I'm considering dropping it.
What even causes the first one? I noticed it but couldn't put it into words
It’s some faggot making face screenshots and thumbnails trying to pass them off as YouTube videos and twitter posts.
blacksmith is left of city of tears. You'll need pale ore and sum geo
dishonest game design
My only issue is the absolutely retarded map system. Live the game aside from that.
What the fuck is WOTW
Will of the Wisps
>"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
>"YOU'RE TELLING ME I WAS SUPPOSED TO PUSH BUTTONS WITH THE CONTROLLER IN A VIDEOGAME?!"
>"HOW THE FUCK WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT?!"
>"FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!"
Yes you dumb bitch, its not some cryptic Simon's Quest tier puzzle you would only get from a manual, you just needed to slash something with the sword, a thing that solves all other problems before that one
Yeah I love the game but I'm not a fan of the
>YOU GOT HIT, BETTER LOWER THE VOLUME AND COVER THE SCREEN
I get that they wanted players to pay attention, but they went overboard.
>minor issues
I did the same things these people did, I didn't know about the pogo, explored literally everywhere, ended up accidentally pogoing and just went, "Man I am a fucking idiot" and continued to play the game.
Is this the same shit as that Sonic 3 barrel, except somehow even more moronic?
>make all benches warpable to
>remove all the retarded Soulsborne mechanics
>make Wayward Compass and Gathering Swarm naturally built in
I'm going to get flack for these opinions, but I stand by them
Stop shilling this e-celeb
You "raise" that platform near the end of the game
You already know about the mushrooms way way earlier
In case you haven't figured it out already:
its clickbait
>DEVS TAKE FOR GRANTED YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT A VIDEOGAME IS
Sheer fucking hubris
The map system was good, I dont understand why so many people hate it also turning all the benches into teleports sounds really dumb
What a fucking homo
I hope based mossbag does a video on him
>Soulsborne mechanics
Just say corpse run.
There are literally only two ways to interact with the world in hollow knight
>press up on d pad if it's an npc to talk
>everything else hit it with a sword
Because we live in an age where people genuinely need map markers on everything because they struggle to think for longer than 5 seconds.
I used gathering swarm in place of the compass charm my first playthrough. Oddly, I had no complaints with the map, because I would stop and look at the map and imagine where I was. I didn't need exact location, just what room I was in like metroid. I had no difficulty navigating and part of it might have been from not relying on the compass.
This is my favourate game of all time
Just geo at first
Two factors contribute to it
1) collision is turned off when you're in the hitstun invincibility mode. In normal play you never end up inside an enemy because you always get hit and knocked back when you touch one. So you don't have to worry about it. But suddenly with collision off you don't have that safeguard, so in a hectic right or against a mobile boss or whatever you're more at risk of touching or slipping inside an enemy unknowingly.
2) no sound cue for becoming hittable again. Needed because you are looking at enemies all over the screen, you can't afford to be watching your own character. Many games have a sound that plays when you're in a hitstun state, which establishes that rhythm in you so you know intuitively how long you're in that state and when you'll leave it. I don't remember hollow knight having one of these, so you don't get a good feel for how long the invincibility state lasts and you can't make sure to be away from enemies when the time is up
This game runs like fucking garbage no matter what system or settings I use. How do I fix this?
Have you tried upgrading from your windows XP?
Is this what they call concern trolling?
>I played the game just fine, but someone who had never touched a video game before would have no idea what to do. Here's an Egoraptor video to explain more
Why would you get into Metroidvanias with fucking Hollow Knight instead of playing the games the genre is literally named after? Are you retarded?
My only complaints with hollow knight are the pacing (you get the double jump way too late and the dash should be the first upgrade) the level desing (most levels are pretty basic and not really interesting visually or mechanically) and the bosses (there are lots of really simple bosses in HK and only some of them make good use of all the mechanics in the game)
Nothing. It's a masterpiece.
bruh the dash is got maximum an hour after the first upgrade
Is Hollow Knight a must play game for fans of Metroidvanias?
Hollow Knight is literally the only Metroidvania I've played, and I would like to know what Yas Forums thinks regarding this question too
I agree that the pacing is a bit slow, but you get mothwing cloak pretty quickly
Also yeah, the areas are all too similar and only Crystal Peak really feels really different.
This tweet isn't real by the way
>The map system was good
No. It's tedious shit. Literally trying to reinvent the wheel.
>benches into teleports is dumb
Agreed. Nothing wrong with the current fast travel
No, hell I'd put Guacamelee over it just for more interesting platforming sections.
Literally impossible.
Nah, the only one that's almost impossible with all the bindings is Hallownest's.
The rest are crazy hard but still very doable.
Why would you even do any of that? To get a five second Flash cutscene?
>See mushroom
>Hit it from the side and it pushes you backards
>Too dumb to understand you have to hit it from the top
is OP filtered?
To relish in the challenge? Though I must admit all bindings sort of make it hard in a boring way because you literally become weaker than you are at the start of the game.
It's specifically The Collector that's close to impossible. I'm pretty sure I could beat any other boss with all bindings if I had the patience.
Really? I have the most trouble with the Hollow Knight at the end of the last Pantheon before Hallownest's. Collector is pretty formulaic.
The game throws fast travel spots at you goddamn. How many more do you need to suck all the flow out of the game? Navigation is incredibly fun, and the places you can't fast travel through are dangerous for a reason. If you could just fast travel through dangerous corridors and sections it would take a lot of the atmosphere out of those locations. Especially when you reach an are you can't return from without going forward.
At MOST I would say a post game charm to allow fast travel for completionism would be fine though.
>make all benches warpable to
>remove all the retarded Soulsborne mechanics
uh huh
Today I found out that bosses have a radiant difficulty. Don't know how to feel about this especially when a lot of them have "I'm going to jump directly on you now" attacks.
